Neither parent appeared to be involved in political activities. But in 2016, Jennifer Crumbley posted on her blog an admiring open letter to former president Donald Trump, who had just been elected. She described herself as a Realtor and “the opposite of your typical ‘republican’” — a pro-choice feminist who supported the LGBT community and did not believe in God. This is a guy who had previously threatened a school shooting and he was still allowed to purchase guns?!! When will republicans stop allowing this? No one wants this! Not even most of your own constituents! Sadly it’s probably because your leaders fear the crazy minority of their own party will come after them. So they do nothing and allow other people’s loved ones to become the latest sacrificial lambs so that Big Gun can keep printing money selling more guns to people who don’t need them but are convinced by Fox News that the devil is always on their doorstep.

I understand the inclination to blast MAGA, but the GOP "moderates" and Democratic Party allies have blocked meaningful gun control legislation for my entire lifetime. I'm 70. This defeat has many fathers. I'm 66 in July. Only the self-proclaimed "pro-life" party has fetishizied the 2nd Amendment. Not to mention being co-opted by the Russian-influenced NRA. Only the MAGA GOP has intentionally stoked White grievance fear of Latinos, Blacks, Asians, people who are non-White and use the racist "replacement theory" to rile them up. Let me be the first to say thoughts and prayers. This country is FUBAR'ed in so many ways, and yet many will say it's all the fault of the Democrats. I think most of us agree that "defund the police" was a stupid way to express a need for reallocation of funding and better training. So, I can't give either side a full pass. That said, one side continues to incite violence and push false narratives that stupid and deranged people, seemingly, buy and it's directly resulting in American deaths, especially deaths of minorities. And, there's, seemingly, no desire or indication of any changes in "Republican" policies or direction. It only seems to get worse. And, roughly half of the country seem to think that that's just fine. |

Nor have police, for the most part, been defunded. Fot example in DC, lots of GOP will tell you so, but what actually happened is that the council has increased police funding annually. , but less so than Bowser requested.
Allocating more of police funding to pursing illegal gun suppliers would help, especially in terms of the other (aggregate) mass of shootings, the weekly 1-3 shootings the DMV has seen this Spring.
And reducing the "legal" gun market by weapons type, etc. couldhelp. This mass shooter, like others, got his guns "legally" (although he made illegal post-purchase modifications).
