You gotta be kidding. This coaching change feels like a farce. Same guy pulling all the strings.

Good. This program now deserves what it has obtained ... irrelevancy. All this board does it talk about ghosts of past success because that is all there is.
Jr ran this program into the ground
III, despite early successes with some else's players, ran this program into the ground.
Now we have the third iteration which is a slap in the face.

Georgetown, and John Thompson, Jr. (Big John) let his son be his own man. And went the distance with him. After several losing seasons of poor weak quality teams and underachieving players a change was made. Coach Patrick EwING will have every opportunity to build a team in his likeness which is that of a WINNER! If Ron Thompson was put in place to assist Coach Ewing, so be it. We all want great results!!!! Ron Thompson has great credentials!!!!! He has been a head coach, a pro scout, a basketball analyst and is well respected, I believe, in the industry. Patrick needs great resources around him, and people who understand the Georgetown administrative system, and the basketball universe. Big John, wants a winning program as much or more than anybody chatting on these boards. We haven't had the big breaks yet, but I believe they are coming. Georgetown apart from Patrick never got highly ranked players in abundance. That went to UNC, UCLA CT, SYRACUSE, Kentucky, and a host of other big name programs. We got players from around the DMV, And a bunch of obscure players....no name player with big hearts, courage and a can do attitude...players that had plenty of dog in them, that went to class, had thick skins and went all the way with what Big John wanted. And we've all heard that Big John wasn't gentle!!! I believe that fate will hand us a few good surprises and that Pat's team will make us proud!!! But given our recent past, we will have to endure some hardship to turn this ship around..let's give the man a shot of confidence and stop bi!!/€ching, and moaning. People, players read these comments. It often reads like a spoiled, entitled cesspool! Georgetown is high quality, with high standards...let's go!

The rumors about him being on the staff have been around for months, why didn't they announce him along with the other assistants? Instead the news drops during one of the most important recruiting weeks on the calendar, which immediately puts a negative tone around a program desperate for some momentum..

Instead the news drops during one of the most important recruiting weeks on the calendar, which immediately puts a negative tone around a program desperate for some momentum..Etomic you know I respect your opinion but this is a MAJOR exaggeration to say the least. No one outside of DIE HARD fans and alums of the program who follow the daily activities of the program even know that Ron Thompson was added in some capacity to Ewing's staff. Most if not all recruits that the staff is involved with or recruits who are interested in Hoyas Basketball more than likely don't have a clue of his addition to the staff nor do they care. It's not being discussed on ESPN or FS1. Stephen A Smith, or Colin Cowherd are taking time during their shows to rant about this. It won't be a topic by Wilbon on PTI and he lives and works in DC. It won't be mentioned on the local TV news sports broadcast. I doubt it even makes the DC newspapers and if it does it will be a tiny blurb in the back of the sports page. Ronny Thompson's not on the coaching/recruiting staff. I personally could careless who Ewing adds to his administrative or coaching staff. I care about the growth of the program and results. So please please explain what negative tone is Ronny Thompson's hire to a non coaching role disrupting the program and in what way could it affect momentum??? Is his hire going to hurt recruiting, style of play, game preparation? Is his hire going to have an adverse effect on wins and losses? Absolutely not! It only bothers some of the posters on here for whatever their personal reasons are.

Bold faced move perhaps to mask/compliment the limitations of the new coach. Also, the Towering One will be retiring soon and this keeps a certain name always associated with Georgetown.

As long as the team progresses steadily, I am fine with it. Welcome back officially, RT!

Waiting until they got all of the season ticket renewals? I believe one is able to cancel your season ticket renewal before the season starts. And you don't have to make your Hoya Hoop Club contribution to maintain your seats and priority based upon your contribution level until October if memory serves me correctly. Personally, I don't see this as a deal breaker for those who have already renewed their season tickets.

I am not a big fan of Ronny, but the hyperbole on this news is out of control. It will not have an appreciable effect on the program one way or the other.

I see a bit of hyperbole and other comments that are succinct in expressing the problem. Ronnie's tangible "effect" on the program is not the point.

Our program's prominence will depend on the number of pro level recruits we can re-connect with and bring into the fold. Without that element or being with any other coach (without that element) would be difficult to make GT a beast again. I believe that Coach E has the know how of what it takes to get the coaching part done and if he can makes that connection the results will be very good. Now the program has to make that re-connection. Any inference to whether or not the modern day recruit will not come to GT because RT is on the staff is a real stretch of the imagination. Any experiences that will shorten Coach E's college environment learning curve should be welcomed. Given the connected way information is passed throughout the recruiting world i feel we are in a difficult position because of a lot of negativity that is expressed through out the fan base. Some criticism is always needed for self evaluation and adjustments. A lot of criticism by those inside the fort only leads to breaches to the fortification of the walls. As mentioned before some recruits are either by social media or other coaching staffs highlights this negativity. We can share in either making our climb more difficult or immediate.

It has to do with a continuation of an ancient method of running a program. Throw in the Falk-factor everybody talks about and we are not only dealing with a lack of an on campus facility, but we are putting additional constraints on our recruiting efforts with the symbolism of this hire.

Ron Thompson has great credentials!!!!! He has been a head coach, a pro scout, a basketball analyst and is well respected, I believe, in the industry. I know for certain that the last part is not generally true. This is a disastrous hire.
