I am extremely excited for Mac. That being said, watching these clips against what looks like a middle school team I can’t help but wonder if this is best for his skill development. He is so far above everyone on the floor athletically it must actually get a bit boring for him. I hope there is some better competition ahead on their schedule. Honestly I’d rather see him work on getting triple doubles than just putting up 60 points each game.

He may be dominating weak competition but it is happening with pure speed and hops with a few moves. Add a few moves and some Basketball Intelligence and he can be great for us.

This is getting unreal. The competition didn’t look great, but who was the last player on our team to be even close to this athletic? Bowen? I think he has Pryor and peak beat. Peak was as prolific at scoring but it was due more to his savvy and finishing ability then Mac's pure speed and hops. I could see Bowen but he wasn't as impressive against his competition and didn't really find that control that Mac already has until his Senior year.

I think he is still working on his game, though, so I doubt boredom slips in.

Bowen was athletically gifted, but never a polished basketball player. Only a handful of Hoya guards had this level of athleticism combined with scoring ability- Iverson, Page and Pryor to name a few. Mac still needs to get better and produce on the collegiate level.

Well, Pat can probably find a few more middle schools to fill out next year's OOC if that helps ease the kid's transition to the big playground...

Athletically he has the whole package except for elite quickness. Elite guards usually have elite quickness. Allen Iverson was unguardable because he was quicker than his opponents. Bobby Hurley probably couldn't dunk but he was a great college guard because he could get by his man blindfolded. Definitely not meant to be a knock on Mac as I am happy we got him.
Competition wise it looks like he is on the Georgetown plan. He did drop over 50 against Science Hill and they are usually one of the better teams in Tennessee. North Mecklenberg, who they play in the Arby's Classic, should provide a stiff test. They have a couple of d-1 guys in Jaelyn Withers and Tristan Maxwell.

Agreed, but you can be a great college guard without elite quickness as long as you have other strengths. There are plenty of examples. Of course, you have to have some ability to beat your man, but this kid does. It is not easy to score 50 or 60 against anybody.

He may not have elite end to end speed but he appears to have a great 1st step and he knows how to play with differing paces. What excites me is he seems to have excellent range on an ever improving jump shot and he's gritty, I like it and he'll make his mark as a Hoya.

Justin replied re the Hoyas: "They sorry." Mac had the good sense not to respond.
