I don't care who it's against. 52 points is 52 points.

Diamond in the rough. Cannot wait to see him in blue and gray. I agree, and by the end of this year, not even so sure that diamond will be in the rough anymore!

Can anyone add color as to the level of competition he is playing against?
I remember people were seriously questioning LJ Peaks’s talent level because of the competition. Is this a similar scenario?

The team he played Friday might have some LM or d2 type players but overall the comp is pretty bad except for a couple of teams they might face in a tourney or two. Last year they played Wings Academy, Govan's hs team, in a tourney for instance.

If you want to gauge the quality of Virginia 2A teams, catch a game at George Mason High School in Falls Church. When Mac was a freshman both teams played in the semifinals of the state tourney (both lost).

I think the more appropriate comparison is Trey Mourning, who seemed to be scoring 30-40+ points a game his senior year in Florida. While LJ has similar numbers in SC, he showed well against high level competition earlier when he played a year in Chicago.

Can anyone add color as to the level of competition he is playing against? I remember people were seriously questioning LJ Peaks’s talent level because of the competition. Is this a similar scenario? I think the more appropriate comparison is Trey Mourning, who seemed to be scoring 30-40+ points a game his senior year in Florida. While LJ has similar numbers in SC, he showed well against high level competition earlier when he played a year in Chicago. I was going to let this slide but this statement is completely incorrect/false. First of all Trey never scored 30-40+ points a game his senior year. Yes he did have 1 game where he scored 52 points and had 20+ rebounds against an average team that had no high major talent. He averaged in the low to mid 20's and 10-12 rebounds a game. 2nd the misnomer about Trey playing against crappie competition every game is the biggest misinformation being spread on this board and that's saying a lot. Trey played at Ransom Everglades and while they don't typically have division 1 talent (Trey and Sam Singer who just graduated from Cal are the most recent) because they are one of the few Private schools (maybe the only 1) that doesn't recruit and give scholarships. It's also the most expensive school in South Florida. It is also in an area surrounded by schools that have division 1 (high & low) talent. While Ransom doesn't play great team's every game, they do play their share. Their main rival is Gulliver Prep which they play typically 3-4 times a year including playoffs always recruits players an and always has D1 talent. During Trey's senior year they had 4 players that went on to play MM & HM D1 ball. Those players were younger than Trey but still very talented. Monsignor Pace, Cardinal Gibbons, University School (currently has 2019 #1 player) , Pine Crest, Chaminade Maddona, LaSalle, American Heritage, Coral Springs Christian, Sagemont, North Broward Prep, Grandview Prep, Saint Andrews are just some of the schools that Ransom has played over the years, all have had multiple D1 signed players over the last 6-8 years and they all give scholarships or "financial aid" where the really high level athletes in the area pay next to nothing to attend these private schools. I'm posting this to hopefully put an end to this ridiculous misnomer that has spread on this board about Trey only playing against very low talent level players. How do I know this is false and the level of play of kids in the area you ask? I coached in South Florida for 15+ years and know the basketball landscape extremely well. Back to McClung. He plays really hard and has some dog in him. I think Coach Ewing will be able to mold McClung into a player who contributes immediately. McClung looks like a really good fit for what Ewing seems to want to do in terms of playing an up tempo athletic style and fit is the most important part in recruiting. I do believe people will look at McClung when he's at Georgetown and be surprised that he wasn't ranked higher. From what we have seen so far, it is easy to see why Ewing pursued and signed LeBlanc, Carter and McClung. They look like perfect fits for the style and scheme Coach Ewing has displayed.

Arby's classic brackets came out today and Gate City drew one of the top teams North Carolina, North Mecklenburg. Tough draw for them, Mecklenburg is pretty loaded. Jaelen Withers, Tristan Maxwell, Demar Anderson etc..
