Bad photographic positioning - family blocks the "G" while letting "Blue Devils" dominate the shot?! Photographer gotta be a Dukie.

GATE CITY, VA – A pair of Gate City seniors made the official decision to continue their academic and athletic careers on Wednesday. Mac McClung and Chance Taylor each made it official on Wednesday’s Early National Signing Day that they are continuing their standout athletic careers at Division I universities. McClung, who’s stock rose this summer to a three-star recruit thanks to highlight real dunks that landed him on ESPN’s SportsCenter, signed to play in the nation’s capital for former Hall of Fame player Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas. Chance Taylor Signing Photos / Mac McClung Signing Photos "Playing for Coach Ewing is a great opportunity because he knows what it's like to be a pro,” said McClung. “He knows that’s my goal and I believe he gives me my best chance of making it." On October 15th, McClung chose Georgetown over 32 other Division I offers, including Boston College, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Marshall, and ETSU, with a verbal commitment on his Twitter page. Wednesday the Gate City senior was excited to make the decision official, and sign on the dotted line. "It's a big day,” said McClung. “I'm very grateful to have this opportunity to represent the hard work that we've gone through, but now it's time get better and go to practice." "Just a few years ago Mac was here watching one of our players sign, and he had this look in his eye,” reflected Gate City basketball coach Scott Vermillion. “I remember him telling me, 'Coach that's going to be me one day.' I think he was in eight grade then, so that's a neat thing to see." “The recruiting process really exploded after last season on the AAU circuit,” added Vermillion. “From there, he was certainly looking for the big time offer, and he got a few of those. However, at the end of the day it came down to the way that he felt when he went to Georgetown. And you know, Patrick Ewing, how can you pass that up?” McClung has been an AA first team all-state selection for the previous two years. He’ll have a chance in 2018 to make it a three-peat, and help lead his team to its first state championship in program history. Speaking of a state title, now that the recruitment process is officially over, McClung says he has just one goal. “Winning a state championship, that’s all I’m worried about.” tricitiessports.com/mac-mcclung-chance-taylor-sign-letters-of-intent-at-gate-city-p85542-1.htm

Would like to see more highlights of Mac working on passing, shooting & ball handling now - we know he can dunk.

“Mac brings a different dynamic of athleticism to the floor,” Ewing said in a release. “He is electrifying out on transition, and he will be able to create for himself and others in the half court. I’m looking for him to provide leadership for our team from the point guard position.”
Between this quote and his comment about point guards during media day, Ewing certainly seems to see Mac McClung as the point guard for this team going forward.

You can see the kind of transition game Ewing wants to run, even if the team needs a lot more reps to get it right. Mac fits that strategy very well, and seeing him with the coaches scouting another player leads me to believe Pat feels McClung could be his extension on the floor, which is what every coach wants at the point. I hope the kid keeps improving and working on the distributor and decision-making aspects, but as a guy who hasn't played organized basketball all that long, his ceiling could be very high.

The name Mac McClung might not ring a bell to Longhorns fans, but they’ll definitely remember him if they come out to Ray Shoun Gymnasium on Friday. High school basketball kicks off play with three games on tap at JCHS. The Longhorns will battle Science Hill at 5:30 and will play David Crockett at 8:30. Sandwiched in between those games is the main event. Gate City, led by McClung, a two-time All-State player, will square off with Science Hill at 7 pm. The 6’2” point guard signed with Georgetown back in October who is coached by Hall of Fame player Patrick Ewing. McClung had over 40 Division 1 scholarship offers before deciding with the Hoyas. He had earlier committed to Rutgers. Last year McClung scored a school record 64 points against Dan Rivers in the 2-A Region semifinals. He was 13-of-13 from the foul line and swished seven treys in a 96-84 win. It should be fun to watch who the talented Toppers defend the senior sharpshooter and Gate City’s high powered offense. www.thetomahawk.com/sports/mcclung-help-longhorns-open-basketball-season/

I've read the various scouting reports - but I would love to hear from someone on this board (anyone?) who has seen him play recently- how do you see him developing? Is he going to be able to guard BE guards? So desperate at guard that I want him to be ready to contribute right away, but he seems to me to be more like 2 year project.
