Hey Hoya fans, long time South Dakota alum/fan here to chime in on Trey. Trey is very quick, good kid, adequate shooter, but not great. USD fans were literally shocked initially, but then after thinking about it, we ended up not being surprised that much.
Trey has been everywhere and I think the real reason he transferred is two fold. First, he lost tons of playing time as the season went on. We have a freshman that beat him out of a lot of time. I think Trey had a hard time with that. Secondly, I do think Trey believes he's a lot better than what he is (all good athletes think like that ). Playing for Coach Ewing would be thrill, so I now get it. We all wish Trey the best and wish you Hoya fans a great season next year. We will have a set of eyes on how trey does.
I'll check back in if you have any questions. Take care

I'll check back in if you have any questions. Take care Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you'll get a ton of questions. I'll start How is Trey defensively? Is he quick in a good way and stay in front of his man or does he gamble defensively? What kind of defense do you run, is it purely half court or a full court press? On offense, his stats show that he takes care of the ball but would you say he tries to set-up his teammates more or get the ball in the net (from his tape I've seen more the latter)? You say he's an adequate shooter, does his form look good season long? What happened with the Freshman beating him out; was it closer to a 50-50 share, did he clearly lose the competition, or was the fit not right? Hope he can compete and play well for us. Quite a bit of competition at the 1/2 spots but no real standouts so he'll have a great shot, I'm being optimistic that he'll perform. Thanks again for your input...Go Yotes and beat Duke!

From the games I watched against Iowa and Gonzaga Trey looked to try to do to much and was a bit overmatched in those games. Do you think when he plays top level talent ever night he will be consistent enough to pay dividends for us?

I mean Rodney Pryor went 2-15 from three against the top two teams he played in 2015-16. Really hard to assess what this kid can do based on turning it over too much against a national finalist and in the NIT, both on the road.

As I stated earlier, my opinion is that Trey thinks he's better than what he is. He is lightening fast, but sometimes the body gets ahead of the ball. One of you asked about our defense. We mixed it up a lot, and in my opinion, this is why Trey lost playing time, because he was suspect in man to man. Your staff may coach him up, and if they do, then you'll have a point guard to get you through one year.
I truly hope he shines as he's a great kid. I'll be watching that's for sure. Good luck

Interested to see how our new players do in Kenner. Impact players tend to put up good numbers during the summer, much like Peak and Pryor.

Don't know how the rest of you feel, but the scouting report from yoteforever is a bit concerning. At least its just a one year situation, but at least based on this one report, he might not have much impact in the Big East.

I'm just glad we have a point guard and a coach who thinks you need one.
Dickerson doing his job will be more impactful in the sense of getting back over .500 than Pryor auditioning for Europe playing outside the offense and no defense.

Fair point but Rodney was the best player on his team and ranked as one of the best graduate transfers by all the publications. Trey was at best the third best player on his team and is nowhere near those lists. I'm hoping for the best people were getting mad at how Rodney played. I think those on here that are expecting an impact starter may sour on Trey.

I'm expecting a solid starter who will bring more experience, better defense, better handles and more attacking than what we have on the roster. That said, I expected that from Mulmore, so we'll see.

Not trying to stray away from Dickerson conversation but Mulmore was never a fit for JT3's offensive style and traditional schemes. I actually took his signing as a true sign JT3 was really making massive changes to his offense. I think Mulmore will fit much better in a down hill, ball screen NBA style offensive attack.

I agree, but "style of play" aside, Mulmore didn't finish thru traffic as I expected considering he was scoring 26 ppg in Juco, and I expected him to be a better defender than what was here before him and to control the game better than Tre and a frosh Mosely. I'm hoping that a different style will provide different results. I would like Mulmore and Marcus to be fighting for the most improved player award at the end of next season.

Not making excuses for Mulmore or not trying to at least but his issues finishing last season IMO had a lot to do with fit and comfort in JT3's offense. You can tell there was a high level of frustration with him in JT3's very controlled offense. When he drove the lane into traffic it was against the offense and would lead him into a congested area leading to an extremely difficult challenged shot over multiple defenders. In JT3's past first offense sides are usually cleared out via the motion of the offense, the opposing BIG was dragged either to the top of the key or wing by the Hoyas Big and driving lanes from top of the key made available by weak side screens to drag the attention away while a ball screen was being set by the post . Mulmore on many occasions drived into the lane when the offensive action wasn't designed to do so as players were making their Princeton cuts into the lane leading to a lot of traffic in the key. Peaks drives were designed within the offense and left the driving lanes less congested (no Princeton cuts). Also Peak is freak athlete with outstanding body control. NBA offenses are predominantly off the bounce by the PG, designed with a lot of spacing, ball screens and players cuts to the basket are triggered off the drive not the pass like you found in JT3's offense.
