What kinds of shots was he taking? Was he option 1 on his team and, as such, forced to take a lot of contested shots? You don't know because you didn't watch his games. Those things matter. There's no question that they matter, but if one looks a bit at the team, it's schedule, and his numbers, it's reasonably clear how and why the numbers matter. Since judgments seem to be frowned upon here, let's leave it at that and hope for the best. Reasonable judgments are, as far as I can tell, completely welcomed here. Who were his teammates and who did they play? I'm not saying that I know what kind of player he is or isn't. I'm saying that you don't either just by looking at a stat sheet. Either way, as you said, let's leave it at that since we both know nothing about Trey's game or ability.

There is a darn good chance that this kid will be a starter at some point this season.

Kinda don't understand people questioning a D1 grad transfer on May 7th who fills a position of need - we get to recruit this scholarship again in 2018. If you want to question a signing, Blair seems like the one to question. We've got lots of combo options for the 2, and there's no way to figure how Blair's skills play against much improved competition. Dickerson played against tournament teams (Gonzaga, South Dakota State) and other major conference teams (Iowa, Nebraska) and led his team in scoring in those games and doesn't look to have turned the ball over much. I don't think he's going to have the sort of instant transformative impact that Waters would have (please please please sign Tremont), but from the looks, he's not going to hurt us if he plays a lot, and for a May 7th grad transfer signing, that's pretty great. I'm not questioning Juggy...that kid has a chance

There's really no reason to be negative about the signing. He's a graduate transfer, and it only ties up a scholarship for one year. Also, if anybody wants to criticize his stats, keep in mind that depending on what stats you use (like efficiency), Dickerson is arguably better than Mulmore, Mosely, and Campbell. So, there was a need and Ewing filled it. I don't think anybody thinks Dickerson will be transformative in the ways Waters may have been (and hopefully will be), but we need players, including a point guard, and he fills this role. If we get Waters, all the better. Welcome aboard Trey. Questioning the benefits of the signing is not the same as being negative about the signing. JMHO. not sure the intent, but that comment reads, "i can be meanspirited about getting the kid no matter his virtue or value."

It's hard to respond to that without some idea of what you consider "meanspirited."

Great news, happy to bring on a point guard, even if it is for one year. I would never expect the production Prior gave us from any other grad transfer, but I think Dickerson fills a huge need on this team. Can he defend on the perimeter? If the answer is yes, he is a tremndous addition this late in the game by Ewing. Should have known he was coming as soon as I saw the first name, we have the market cornered on guys named Trey, and we needed that 3rd one.
Welcome to GU Trey, I hope you make the most of your year as a Hoya on and off the court!

I'm looking forward to Rich Chvotkin trying to keep things straight when Dickerson and Derrickson are on the court at the same time.

Since I kind of send this thread off sideways with my first reply I will say that maybe I was wrong to be so pessimistic so early in thread. Honestly there probably should be a welcome thread and an analysis thread. I want this kid to succeed as I do with every player that comes here.
That being said I watched the Gonzaga and Iowa games and I can't get excited about this. Is there a chance that Trey starts this year? Sure since he is an older player with lots of experience. I just don't think he is good enough to make a difference and that him playing may actually hinder us in the future. If we are going to stink this year, which minus Tremont and Alstork coming we probably will, then why not find out what we have for the future with Jiggy and Juggy. I'm not sure what good it does to have Trey come in and play 25 minutes a game if it doesn't mean we make the tourney. I also thinks this means that no more other PG's are coming which is discouraging. I may be wrong but I don't know why you would take Trey if they are. Maybe Pat is feeling the pressure of trying to win every game possible in his first year, but for me I would rather set up the future since I consider next year a lost year anyways. I understand that not everyone will agree with my line of thinking. I am just explaining where my pessimism comes from.

Looked like we were in the clear but looks like we were unable to avoid the Derrickson-Dickerson conundrum. It was meant to be.

This kid is easily the best 1 or 2 guard we have on the roster. Love the pick up. We sure need him.

Wrong thread, but Dickerson should start at PG. We have to see, but the competition is not too heavy.
