Go for the grad transfer guy instead. Golden will be behind LeBlanc, Carter And walker in the rotation. No need to wasted the last scholarship on that.

Patrick is not going to waste a scholarship. If he wants the kid, we should want him too.

His tape won't drop anybody's jaw but I've heard some say that he's better than his brother, and his brother was pretty damn good last year. No issue from me in pursuing him.
I understand the "just take the grad transfer, there's no downside there" line of reasoning, but think it neglects the rise in roster movement that has become commonplace in recent years. Transfers used to be taboo, something that a program needed to be ashamed of, like a stigma on the program that had to be explained away on opposing teams message boards. That's just not the case anymore, they're commonplace now and happen at every school. The prevalence of grad transfers these days has made the redshirt season a player has to take when he transfers a much smaller hurdle. A lot of guys play 5 seasons across 3 different schools, trying to find the situation that'll maximize their ability and give them a chance to be a star. Lately there's talk that if a player is in good academic standing he won't even have to sit out a year when he transfers. I know it can still be an uncomfortable topic for some, but it's not going anywhere any time soon. From that perspective, looking at every incoming freshman as a 4 year commitment is short-sighted. I mean, our recent transfer history hasn't been particularly bad, but we show the trend pretty clearly: if you exclude 1 man recruiting classes (Cameron, Mosely), there was only 1 recruiting class from the time JTIII took over through the present that where everybody who came in as freshman stayed all 4 years*. Every other class has at least one player transfer out, leave early for the pros or be kicked off the team. Spots will always open up.
(*The class with Starks, Nate, Moses and Bowen, FYI).
I just think if you have an opportunity to bring in a talent you do so, and things will work themselves out. I know there are still board rules about transfers and that's fine, but let's suppose for a second that we bring in Golden. Next year he, LeBlanc, Carter and Walker are all battling for the minutes vacated by Marcus's departure. By the end of the season, 1 or 2 of those guys will have emerged as ahead of the others, and the others may consider their options. This is how top programs operate and we need to reconcile ourselves to it. The model where guys come in and sit for 2-3 years before moving into a major role is archaic at this point.
I think there's a realistic chance that Golden can be as good or better than Walker, Leblanc and Carter. Maybe he won't be, but I'm happy to have him and let it work itself out.

There is just as much chance that Golden winds up being best of the four as there is him being fourth. With the lack of frontcourt players we have had lately, I can't see why we would pass on this kid.

Golden and Femi seem pretty similar to me, same sort of concerns - they both seem like low post threats, neither seem like they "replace" Derrickson, who was a good shooter with ridiculous range. Hopefully we get one of them and they can make up some of the difference with defense and rebounding.

At this point in the recruiting process, nobody is going to replace Derrickson's particular skill set. There are not a lot of guys with NBA range who can also score consistently in the low post, and who have 3 years of BE playing experience. My guess is that Ewing will let a group of players (Walker, Carter, Mourning, LeBlanc, maybe Femi or Golden, maybe Yurtseven, maybe even Kaleb and Malinowski) fight it out for minutes at the 4. Each of those guys has potential to be a contributing player, but none of them have proven much of anything (For yurtseven it would be proving he can defend the 4 position). Hopefully the competition will bring out the best in one or more of them and we'll get either a solid starter or a group of guys with different strengths who can be used in a situational matchup rotation.

Femi had already proved himself at the college level and scored some pretty numbers against some good teams this past yr. He would bring some valuable experience for one yr deal and not tie up a scholarship for for yrs on someone that doesn't "wow us".. To be honest wet already have two freshman pfs don't see why we need another, plus we have walker.

In looking at the video from previous page, he appears to have an inside/outside game...can score in several ways around the basket with either hand and has a very good shooting stroke both midrange and three..(interesting leg scissor at release but gets it off quickly)...he is very active on the court and plays with enthusiasm, but doesn't appear to have great hops...he has a bit of an "Old School" game...well rounded in all areas but not great athleticism...I think the staff is looking at him as another above average shooter with range who can help alleviate the loss of Derrickson...with the guards we have we can't have enough quality shooters...and at 6'9 if he can effectively feed the post as well (he appears to be a good passer) AND shoot with range, he becomes an important piece against the zone...

I personally would rather see Olujobi if we can get Stewart. However, if we can't get Stewart, I don't have a strong preference. I trust Coach Ewing's assessment of players much more than mine and if he is left with the choice between the two, I fully trust his decision. Ewing has done an excellent job recruiting to this point and if Yurtseven this team will be great.

Assuming he is still only considering Georgetown, Butler, Syracuse, and Illinois, then this would be his final visit.

I think he ends up at Butler as they have the highest need for him after really striking out in the early recruiting period. They are rolling out the red carpet with the official visit.. Syracuse would be my other guess.

Same can be said from an academic profile. Playing time is the variable that is the key here so does he see himself being able to earn minutes early at Gtown or have them given due to a lack of positional competition?

You right none of those cities have anything on DC nor can the academics compete with Georgetown especially in northern New York. Unfortunately very few prospects make decisions based on academic and location and are more focused on the playing time variable.

Illinois has a family connection. His grandfather Gary Golden was an assistant football coach for Illinois in the 70's. His dad is very familiar with Champaign.
