Based solely on the video of him on the front page, I think he's a little more talented than you give him credit for (and yes I know its a highlight reel)...he's an outstanding passer (he consistently creates and finds the open man), he's very fast and athletic and gets to the hoop and finishes very well, and his 3 pt shooting stroke looks good (he squares up and has a nice, smooth follow through which bodes well for his ability to improve), he protects the ball well without turning it over (one of our problems to date per his excellent assist to turnover rate), and he is regarded as a plus defender in addition to being a good team player and leader...based on these attributes, I think he can be a meaningful contributor...especially in that good passing leads to better shooting percentages all around.

Honest question ... recognizing that: 1) this is a fan board so almost any mid/high major transfer “would be a great get” (even though a number will transfer and stink out loud) and 2) we’re in an age where even my old a$$ could be made to look great in a 4 minute highlight package ... How many of the transfers bandied about on the board do we think Ewing & crew are aware of? I’d like to think with technology and general organization, a high-major program could stay on top of all of them, ranking even simply by staff’s interest x probability of landing (even if a guess). Not a criticism of staff, I just have no idea ... like if you asked Louis Orr who Patrick Tape is, would he know (or is that someone else’s job)? First of all, love your handle. Here’s a link to my law blog: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CtUgTwapB5rCvc7Dm6GIMQ-GaSRoUUjB12mSM9evPC4Every name I add to this has been explicitly linked to Georgetown in some way (interest, offer, visit, contact, etc.). From that perspective, at least one of the coaches on Georgetown’s staff should know a given player on the list. If the name isn’t on the list, then that player might or might not be on the staff’s radar, even if they are mentioned on HoyaTalk. Love this spread sheet, I've seen it a couple of times in the past but forgot about it. This will be my new favorite HOT LINK at which to talk recruiting from. Thanks LCPolo18!!

I would just play him to pass the ball or drive and dare him to shoot it. If you’re 22 and you can’t stroke it, it’s not going to happen.

There are certainly guys out there who are substandard shooters and therefore defenders focus on cutting off driving and passing lanes - but they still produce. Hopefully Harris can do that for us.

As I posted on the main section, this is a solid get and seems to check the box for what we were looking for going into the offseason - experience and stability at the PG position. Not going to the move the needle a ton, but certainly helps balance out the roster, and if complimented with a few more pieces (shooters please), the roster will be a bit more competitive. At this point, we really aren't going to land the Tapes or Aikens of the world, so I'm reasonably happy to land someone who came from a major conference and has the size and athleticism needed to compete in the Big East. Since this board can handle realism way better than the main board I’ll give my opinion here. I think you nailed it that this doesn’t move the needle a ton. Probably brings up the floor a little bit but the floor is still very low. If we are going to be good next year than Harris will be playing a minimum backup role to freshman breakout star Tyler Beard. Not saying that will happen but that’s what would need to happen. You don’t dramatically improve taking backup PG from middling non tournament SEC teams. I think Arkansas is headed up and Harris knew or was told his role would be even less this year so he got out. He’s not a good shooter as we can all see. His defensive numbers are not good. He needs to play in a structure which I’m not sure we have really shown. He loves to go fast which is what I am assuming Pat likes. He does seem to be a good kid that will provide leadership. That may end up being his best contribution and that could prove to be very valuable. If the goal was to get a sold kid with experience then Pat nailed it. I just think a lot of the optimism here is like whenever a new player commits. It’s based in hope and not reality. Just a couple of notes on your comments. Harris started for Arkansas two years ago before two things happened. The head coach changed (Mike Anderson to Eric Musselman) and they brought in a high end grad transfer. They also only had a weird roster where their top 6 players in minutes were all 6'6" or shorter, so roles were probably a bit muddled in that situation. I'm just bringing those points up since you were speculating on his reason for a transfer and stating that he was just a backup PG. I don't think anyone is saying Harris is a program savior. I'm optimistic that he can fill a specific role on the team, not that he can outperform expectations. He's a solid veteran point guard who can bridge the gap to Beard/Harris by splitting time with them and mentoring them this year. If he can help to facilitate the offense and set up shots for the other players without turning the ball over much, then that's a positive compared to where the roster was at yesterday.

I think this is fair. My statement comes from the fact that high major guys don't tend to leave a team to go to a worse team if their role is increasing. Arkansas is also bringing in Robinson, Davis and Moody so I will stand by that statement. If the expectations are that we are getting a backup level BE guy that can provide leadership than I think that's fair. I am not sure everyone is going to be that rational. I've seen way too much of he doesn't turn it over and he's a good defender. He turned it over at the highest % for Arkansas last year and he was not good defensively. I do think the roster is better than yesterday but it was likely going to be better no matter what by bringing in a transfer although there were a few guys we were attached to that were head scratchers. We definitely could have done worse.

After already sitting for a season from his first transfer to Arkansas, he probably didn't want to transfer immediately after Musselman was hired, which would have forced him to sit yet another season.

No question Anderson being fired changed Harris's trajectory. Anderson runs a very specific style and guys that grow up in it are not going to fit many other systems. LCPolo nailed it, he had already transferred once, he likely knew he was graduating and could play consecutive seasons. He is already pretty old.
I think of Harris as a very good insurance policy to the freshman PGs. I actually think it brought the floor of the team up significantly, because relying on 2 freshman PGs to a run a team can result in a very low floor. I also like his maturity and the reports of being a good person. We saw last season maturity is important.

They tweaked his shot the year after he shot 11% from 3 and his percentage jumped to 28% the next yr. I certainly think it’s reasonable to improve that to 33% (which is what Mac and Blair shot from 3). His FT moved from 68% to 75% in that same time frame. Again, reasonable to expect an improvement to about 80% there (which is what Mac shot from FT).

I do think the roster is better than yesterday but it was likely going to be better no matter what by bringing in a transfer although there were a few guys we were attached to that were head scratchers. We definitely could have done worse. I generally agree with everything you have said, just I think he could be a good starter so long as we give him another scorer next to him. That would allow Harris to play his role, give us more spacing and more room for our guys to operate and gives us more ways to win if someone is having an off game. I think this move also shows Ewing may want to press and with Harris it could help and provide leadership. Though, I don't think it solves every problem, as Allen was a much better defender and our defense still stunk and we need another guy who can score and space the floor. I think this move moves the floor up a solid but and shows improvement, but at the same time it doesn't change the trajectory of the program, like Bryce Aiken or Seth Towns would. His assist to TO ratio was elite in the first half of the season and that fell of once Muss realized the team needed buckets and Harris started forcing, causing him to fall out of the role and Mason Jones completely stepped up and showed why he's an absolute star. But, the addition fills a role and should help Beard develop and give us production when he's out. I think Beard's role evolves over the course of the season, but I think Harris provides a solid starter for a good start of the season and helps Beard evolve into the player we think he can become.

I think we still need someone like Brandon or Kerwin. I would prefer Brandon since he would be close to home and maybe open up the Baltimore market more for us. I also think we need a very capable wide body 6-9 to 6-11 with great skills (shooting, rebounding, ball-handling, and defense). That would help plus a great deal.

3. ROBERT ALLEN Coming out of high school, Robert Allen had a handful of low-major programs for options where he could play. That will not be the case this time around. A sophomore transfer that will sit out next season before resuming his eligibility in the fall of 2021, the Samford star is a long and active power forward that can run the floor, finish in the lane and alter shots. He has started every game except one throughout his career. Last season, he averaged 14.1 points, seven rebounds and also contributed with blocks, assists and steals. Allen is hoping to narrow his school list later this month before committing. The suitor list includes College of Charleston, FIU, Georgetown, Mississippi State, Murray State, Ole Miss, St. Louis, USF and VCU. 5. WARITH ALATISHE One of the more underrated forward prospects in the transfer portal, Warith Alatishe entered the Nicholls State program as a relative unknown, but leaves with a bevy of high-majors to choose from. Albeit in between positions in the frontcourt, the sophomore exploded this past season, making giant leaps in practically every statistical category. After seeing action in just 13 games as a freshman and averaging just over a point per game, Alatishe started in 29 of the 31 games that he competed in as a sophomore. He posted strong averages of 10.9 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 57% from the floor. His plan is to keep his recruitment open for the next few weeks. The list of schools involved includes Creighton, Georgetown, Georgia, Oregon State, Texas A&M and Wichita State. I like the video on Alatishe; has a lot of similarities to Leblanc from what I can see. Hope we stay in on him.
