I like Pickett and root for him to play well. He needs to show more versatility, confidence and consistency. You can’t just pencil him in as your best player due to attrition and a small sample size of meaningless games. Small sample size. Yes. Meaningless.No. all of those games were must win....

I like Pickett and root for him to play well. He needs to show more versatility, confidence and consistency. You can’t just pencil him in as your best player due to attrition and a small sample size of meaningless games. What more versatility do you want to see from Pickett? He's shown a 3pt shot, he's shown a pull up jumper, he's shown he can get to the hoop for either a dunk or finger roll, he's shown he can compete on the boards, he's shown he can block shots, he's shown he can defend on the block, hes shown he can defend guys 1 on 1 on the perimeter. I will agree that he needs more confidence and consistency but those often go hand in hand and are intangibles that are harder to measure. From his tweets this off-season, he's building that confidence now and needs to carry it into the season. Consistency will follow. I think that Pickett and Justin Smith would be a lethal wing combo and we would be fortunate to have them both. I'm sure both would be among the top players on the team from game to game. The only real downside would be the stunt in game time development for the Freshman wings and Coach's utilization of Bile. You said it. It all comes down to confidence and consistency.

Justin Smith is a must get for the coaching staff. He changes everything for us going into the Big East schedule. I think we need to see reciprocal interest and Georgetown listed in Smith’s top 4-6 before it’s a “must get” situation. Clinton Crouch is following him.

At this point, Smith is about as talented a kid as you're going to get for next year. You just wonder how he fits. He's a more traditional PF, which pushes JP to the 3. That, honestly, creates a pretty solid starting frontcourt -- probably top third in the BE. But his addition also means Bile & Sibley to the bench, fighting for backup F minutes, and Clark pushed out of that rotation altogether. If we stunk anyway, I'd probably rather have Sibley & Clark get more minutes and prep for '21-'22 and beyond. But ultimately you've got to play to win, and Smith would definitely give us a better chance to do that this year. One other thing I'm thinking while I write this is... Smith could also be a small 5, giving us a different look from Q & Tim. We're going to do it anyway for at least a few minutes a game, but he'd be much more suited than existing guys to that role. Just another insurance policy for the young kids (Q & Timmy) we're going to be leaning on for big contributions. Rumor I've heard is that Smith wants to be more of a three, hence why he is transferring. Or at least more of a wing, instead of an interior guy.

I really like what I see in the video...but I see us listed as one of 20 schools interested...is there any reason for us to be optimistic, or is this a real longshot?

Would be fascinating if one of the schools he's considering gets Mac and we end up with this kid.

Utah sophomore Both Gach is in the NCAA Transfer Portal, a source tells 247Sports. Gath, a 6-foot-6 wing out of Austin, Minn., had a big junior season for the Utes, averaging 10.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists a game, while shooting nearly 40-percent from the field. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Gach will have to sit out next season before having two years of eligible. Gath is, however, expected to apply for a waiver to eligible immediately. Gach was a late bloomer in high school, finishing his high school career at Chandler (Ariz.) Compass Prep. Gach was slotted at No. 149 overall and as a four-star prospect in the 2017 recruiting class. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Both-Gach-Utah-Transfer-Portal-147268733/Have we made any offers to transfers since Mac's announcements? I have not seen anything. Wondering if they are close to a commitment, or saving for 2021 class?? Gach has also been doing his homework on potential NCAA landing spots. To date, he’s conducted virtual visits with Arkansas, BYU, Creighton, DePaul, Maryland and Minnesota. He’s also planning to conduct virtual visits with Auburn, Iowa State, Nevada, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, among others. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/three-point-play-elijah-weaver-super-soph-both-gach

That would be a nuts reason if true and confirmed by the NCAA. Arguably then anyone at schools in NY/NJ/CN could transfer and get a waiver, along with perhaps anyone in other highly impacted areas like Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, LA, etc.

I don't think that's crazy at all considering the COVID-19 situation.

And, how many of these kids are truly transferring because of COVID-19? I could understand if you have a sick relative or lost a relative to the virus (in similar circumstances, waivers have been allowed), but as you say, if this is the standard, then basically anybody can transfer and play immediately, making the whole thing a mockery. I oppose any COVID-19 waivers unless there truly are player-specific circumstances. Being cranky about your university and looking for the greener grass on the other side is not sufficient.
