Start another win streak now. Much better focus/killer instinct on D necessary.

On to the next one, cant cry about spilled milk. Gotta pick it up and take off from here. UNC Asheville will not lay down for us, right now we have a bulleye on our backs. It is time to take the fight to them, and not let them dictate the pace of the game.

The loss to Monmouth was no shock. Let's face it, they are a good team that exposed our weaknesses and we have to fix them in a hurry. Monmouth is the type of team that the NCAA committee always schedules for us [ie., FGCU]. The areas where Georgetown is weak is no secret to better teams who scout us. With the shot clock down to 30 seconds, our slow "Princeton" offense just doesn't get it done. By the time we go to shoot the ball, their defense is set and we end up throwing bricks. Last night we lost twelve points on poor free throw shooting. Our size did not help us with rebounding, especially defensive rebounding. We forced turnovers but couldn't hold on to the ball. Very sloppy. We picked it up in the second half, but JT111 showed no urgency during one particular time out with 15 minutes left in the second half. That is no way to get your team going, finals week or not. No excuses. There is raw talent there and it's early in the season, but JT111 must light a fire under this team NOW.

Does this team have any pride? Perhaps we find out on Saturday.

Does this team have any pride? Perhaps we find out on Saturday. It has nothing to do with pride. It has to do with executing and playing well. I would take a team without pride that executes well over a team with pride that stinks any day.

Quite surprised that the Hoyas have not had a worse start since the mid-70s.
This is exactly the sort of year I thought we would be having given our schedule and our youth. Surprised we didn't have this record 2 years ago.
We have to come up with offensive sets that go downhill against teams that play us to shoot jump shots.
We have to attack the press with the intention of scoring easy baskets rather than just getting across the timeline.
We have to rebound better against smaller teams.
We have to run and use our athleticism. We have to take pride in our defense. Though we are a pretty decent offensive team this year, we are not built to outscore most teams. We are not Steve Nash's Phoenix Suns.
Play with purpose and put a run together.

Georgetown has not run the Princeton offense in at least three years. The average offensive possession is 16.8 seconds, just below the Division I average of 17.0.

I would like to see us press like crazy, push the tempo, and employ hockey-style substitutions.

Unfortunately, neither of our next OOC games should present much of a problem nor challenge us the way our last two did. Asheville and Charlotte both stink (Charlotte looks absolutely horrible). I say this is unfortunate because we really need to get better against the Monmouth's of the world. I was hoping one of these next two games would give us a chance to do that.

I would imagine exam schedule impacts the game scheduling decisions at this time of the year. Exams end, IIRC, on the 22nd.

So against UNC Wilmington, from 8:14 (when we had a 25 point lead) to 0:55 (when we had a 3 point lead), by my count we had 15 possesions, and UNC Wilmington had 16.
Length of ours: 27, 24, 14, 19, 22, 6, 12, 31, 29, 12, 24, 17, 7, 6, 35. Average of 19 seconds a possession.
Length of UNCW's: 15, 5, 11, 23, 12, 3, 7, 7, 12, 10, 3, 9, 21, 2, 11, 1. Average of 9.5 seconds a possession.
There may have definitely been some milking of the clock on offense, and our offense was particularly inept as well, so that didn't help either. However, UNCW averaged 9.5 seconds a possession on offense. That's why we lost ground so quickly. Much of that was our fouls and turnovers, but still, it demonstrates that defense is what really killed us there.

Great post. I have to assume the numbers are pretty much the same for most of the Monmouth game. Like I said, when we play these mid-majors they seem to be playing checkers while we are playing chess. Gotta get better at checkers.

Moving on. Our next 7 games should say a lot. If we don't sweep them all then we may have some cause for concern. Our BE schedule is ridiculous. Nothing but bottom feeders (actually play DePaul twice) until Nova game on January 16. If we sweep and beat Nova we may get ranked. A win over Butler and Xavier later in the season should assure us an NCAA bid. Radford, UNCW and Monmouth will be forgotten and hopefully lessons learned will propel us to sweet 16.

I believe that the Hoyas could very easily lose to Marquette, even at home and playing well. That team has improved tremendously and they will roll out two bigs better at this point than either of the Hoya posts.

Xavier >: Beating them is a necessity this year.
Back on topic: Going to attend my first game for this season tomorrow. Fully expect the Hoyas to vent frustrations and furious angst on the poor unc-whatever team. This team is too talented for a repeat performance of the last game.
