He was a huge miss when you consider that Domingo is no longer at G'town & Cameron probably won't get off the bench his last 3 years @ G'town.. Josh Hart is exactly what we hope Kaleb Johnson turns out to be, what we would have loved to see AB become.. I hate hearing about him too but folks have to be fair, JT3 had a terrible lapse here.. Reggie is on some special five-year plan? You know something we don't? Sighhh.. He didn't play much last season and it doesn't appear he'll play much in his Jr. & sr. years, that adds up to 3 years..

Brunson can score it no doubt, but he'll give it up on the other end just as quick... Whose he going to guard on our team? Dsr? Peak? Idk... Think teams will look to attack him on offense, Jay will try and hide him, but hard to do that against talented backcourts... More worried about Ochefu than Brunson in our matchup. Peak has size and length to cause him problems... watching Brunson play in the U-19 tournament this summer - he is definitely talented. but despite strong Assist/TO ratio numbers, he is pretty much a gunner that hunts his own shot much of the time. He actually reminded me a bit of Scotty Reynolds - not a great athlete, but good at getting off and making tough jump shots. He does not look particularly quick defensively - I'm not sure he really is a high level NBA prospect because he may not be an NBA level athlete. And it is a real stretch to list him as one of the 15 best players in the country! He looks like a real good college player, but by no means a dominating talent. Kind of a classic Villanova guard in a lot of ways - gets his shots up, scores his points, not an especially strong 1-on-1 defender. So we're in for a long 6 years?

People rave about Hart in Kenner. I don't get it. He's solid, yes, but hardly spectacular. And he was clearly a miss to some extent. But not a big miss IMO. It is a shame the program has sunk to a level that not getting Hart amounts to what anyone would consider a "huge miss." We used to save such lofty references to the likes of the Kenny Andersons and the Grant Hills. Now though we put Hart in that category for reasons that still allude me. Is he a huge miss because he would be the difference maker to carry us to the promiseland? Is it because one or two other guys the Hoyas recruited in place of him haven't panned out as expected? Is it because Hart was a local kid who appeared to be leaning heavily towards Gtown? My take on Hart is that he is obviously talented and has a chance to be a very, very good college player. I'm just not sure he is going to be a great player. If he was on track to be great he should have stood out more on that Villanova team LAST SEASON, especially after the month of December. Instead he seemed to blend in with the rest of the squad by putting up some very solid and highly efficient numbers. However he didn't take over games as I thought he would last year once January rolled around. Now if he was only a freshman then I would cut him some slack. But he was a sophmore coming off of a much ballyhooed Kenner League run for which so many folks rode his jock. Based on those KL performances he was tabbed as being on the verge of becoming a breakout star for last year's Nova team. That didn't quite happen. And here we are once again, a few of us at least, hyping him as the Great One That Got Away all because he looks great in the KL and Cameron doesn't. Is Hart a better player than Cameron? No question. And if it came down to just that then it would be a no-brainer that I would want Hart on this team. But it is more than just that. The recruits that III brought in the following seasons after Hart make me not spend too much time wondering over what might have been. You see as good as Hart may be in these next two seasons I'm not certain that is worth him eating into the minutes of guys like Peak, Copeland and White all of whom I feel have greater upsides or at least present matchup problems that Hart does not. But with Hart being as good and polished as he is and with him having more experience you know that is exactly what was going to happen. At this time last year some Hoya fans didn't want Bowen coming back for that very same issue. But one reason why I didn't mind Bowen's return (and, no, I'm not putting Bowen in the same class as Hart) was because I knew Bowen would only be around for one more season and that season would be the one in which our young players would be most in need of a senior teammate who could come in and pick up the slack for them when they were faltering while getting their feet wet. After that he would be gone. Hart on the other hand would be around for their sophmore and most likely their junior campaigns too and thus would be getting in the way when that young group should be getting to the point of taking over the team. While I'm at it I might as well throw Kaleb Johnson in there too; another dude who would see less court time because of Hart. I like Kaleb's upside as well and want him to get as many opportunities on the floor as possible. I may end up eating my words (or my RBB hat) if Hart just blows up as some All-American stud and becomes the Next Kawhi Leonard. But unless that happens I'm more than satisfied with the group of players III has on this roster. You can't win 'em all on the recruiting front and even if you could you wouldn't be able to play 'em all anyway. Unless you're Kentucky.

I get that Hart isn't a "program changer" MCI but he would have upgraded the talent level in the program, this aspect has to be stressed.. The fact that JT3 had to play Caprio in an important game speaks volumes to the lack of talent in the program in the recent past.. The fact that he was a heavy G'town lean, a very heavy lean does make the miss bigger in my eyes.. We differ on this because you seem to prefer potential, especially pro potential over production.. Reading your thoughts on how you'd rather see Kaleb Johnson see time because he has more upside than Hart is crazy talk to me.. Hart is a better player right now than many kids on G'town's team not just Cameron(btw Peak played the day the poster said Hart was the best player in the gym) and honestly "right now" is the only thing that matters.. Who's better prepared to help my team win now? When all things are equal that's who I'd rather see play.. Gimme the game ready player any day of the week.. Also you can't leave Domingo out of the picture in this scenario, JT3 took Domingo a year earlier than he needed to over Hart, how bad does that look right now? For the record I'm happy with the roster now too but I'd be happier if it had another productive player like Hart to plug in with the rest of the core kids..

Reggie is on some special five-year plan? You know something we don't? Sighhh.. He didn't play much last season and it doesn't appear he'll play much in his Jr. & sr. years, that adds up to 3 years.. Your post was poorly worded. " robably won't get off the bench his last 3 years" indicates his last three years have yet to occur.

Also you can't leave Domingo out of the picture in this scenario, JT3 took Domingo a year earlier than he needed to over Hart, how bad does that look right now? It is too early to know the answer to this question. I know someone mentioned California is already recruiting over him. But, if Domingo doesn't get better and never contributes there, then I don't think taking Domingo early really mattered. He could just be a recruiting miss. It happens - we didn't take Cameron early, and he hasn't done much in two years.

I remember the year before Cox was the head of bball operations he coached the tombs so maybe it's a job in waiting for him as maybe the assistant bball operations. Good call.

DSR, Paul White, Copeland, LJ, Reggie Cameron, Bradley Hayes (In new Black cast) did not play as their teams were eliminated from the tournament.
Ohhs and Ahhs (1 seed) Akoy Agau vs Beyond Belief (8 seed) Derek Cooke Jr.
Ohhs and Ahhs destroyed Beyond Belief. This is the team to beat in the tournament. They have great guard play from three dynamos and also roll out their best lineup with one PG and four 6-8 plus guys (6-9 Robert Carter (Georgia Tech to Maryland transfer), crafty 6-9 Tyler Cavanaugh who has low post game and a 3pt shot. He will be a good addition for them (Wake Forrest to GW transfer) ,6-8 Akoy, 6-8 Watanabe (GW))
Akoy Agau: Continues to impress with his ability to handle the ball and dribble drive to the hole, shot block, rebound, disrupt the passing lanes and perimeter game. This guy might be able to play 4 positions at the college level.
In the big line up Akoy and Watanabe would trade off guarding a much smaller shooting guard, no problem.
Derek Cooke Jr.: The Derek Cooke Jr dunking show never got going as Akoy, Carter and Cavanaugh were able to stay in front of him and they also shut down the fast break game.
Premier vs On Point:
No Hoyas. But for all the Josh Hart fans on here, he was on fire from 3 (maybe one miss and 7 made) and attacking the basket. His team was down by about 10 with a minute left, but the not Josh Hart team started jacking up unnecessary 3s and turning the ball over instead of killing the clock and let Hart and his teammates come back and beat them in regulation with a buzzer beater lay up after Hart had tied it with a 3.
Metro All Stars vs Higher Level (Tre Campbell, Trey Mourning)
Guard Byron Allen: George Mason graduate was unstoppable for the Two Tre's Higher level team with 3pter and dribble penetration attacking the basket. He basically kept them in the lead anytime the game was close.
Tre Campbell: Played really well but had alot of turnovers again, especially when trapped and double teamed.
Trey Mourning: Playing center, he rebounded, blocked, rim protected. Good low post defense against opposing centers trying to back their way to the basket. Had his midrange game going today.
Hoop Magic (Derrickson, Julian Vaughn, Riyan Williams) vs Tombs (Govan & Kaleb Johnson)
Derrickson DNP. In street clothes on the bench. Some kind of precautionary injury it looks like but nothing serious as he was moving around fine.
Hoops Magic had two big bruisers in 6-9 260 lbs pro Jason Love (Xavier grad) and 6-9 265 lbs Julian Vaughn from Georgetown. These two did not play when Derrickson was forced to play center against Govan last week.
Kaleb Johnson was at power forward so was forced to try to defend Love or Vaughn in the post. That didn't work.
Vaughn and Love also took turns defending Govan and clogging the paint making it hard for Govan to dominate.
Govan: Was still was able to score and get his boards but the two big guys made it tough for him and wore him down. By the 2nd half Hoops Magic was able to run away with the game. Govan had no sub so had to play the whole game. Govan's good at closing out and helping out on outside shooters. His hustle and length bother shooters on these close outs and he seems to be able to avoid fouling the shooters. Although he doesn't block that many shots he is a rim protector as opposing players alter their shots because they are bothered by his positioning and length. His hook shot is a thing of beauty and a tremendous weapon. It's elite. He basically can get that shot off whenever he wants. It's always there for him. Only way to really stop it is to double, triple team him and hope to strip the ball before he gets it off. He also already has an awareness and ability for passing and back door passes. He will be a monster very, very soon. Keeping him off the floor with foul trouble may be the only way to stop him at the college level.
Julian Vaughn: Used alot of crafty veteran moves to keep the freshman in check on both ends of the floor. Had 5-6 dunks finishing things with authority. Frankly he somehow seems more athletic as he has gotten older and a better finisher now then when he was playing at Georgetown.
Riyan Williams: Had a big game. Hit maybe 4-5 3s. His 3pt shot is actually not bad. It's really good. Also some nice dunks. He's actually been pretty impressive this summer although I still can't see many minutes for him as he can only really play shooting guard.
Kaleb Johnson: He had his hands full trying to guard a guy who outweighs him by 70 lbs (Jason Love) in the post playing out of position as a power forward. But he never quit, kept grabbing boards, attacking the basket and drawing fouls, help shot blocking and hustling for loose balls. He did pass up a wide open 3 after thinking about it for what seemed like an eternity, so I don't think he's comfortable with the college 3pt range yet but I do like his form and his midrange shot is good.

Just ecstatic about the Agau pickup. Wasn't expecting much, particularly after the first Kenner write up, but this guy is going to be a fabulous glue guy for us. Think much, much better version of Lubick.
I don't think he can play either guard slot and don't want him shooting on a team that already has too many aspiring KDs. But I love his motor and athleticism. He can absolutely guard Big East 5s, and I'm betting we're going to routinely look at a stat sheet full of bigs who are reticent rebounders and thank God for AA's willingness to be our Jerome Williams.

I made a reference too him when I mentioned "one or two" players the Hoyas recruited instead who didn't pan out. I think the biggest disagreement we have is on the use of the words "huge miss". From my viewpoint the Hoyas missed out but it isn't a huge blow to me based upon where things stand now. If I felt it was a great blunder I would be complaining about it too. As everyone can attest to I have a strong memory when it comes to all the great players the Hoyas COULD have had but ended up losing because of bad decision-making om the recruiting front.

www.casualhoya.com/2015/8/2/9086251/kenner-league-recap-august-1-2015KALEB JOHNSON: 15 pts, 5-13 2 pt, 5-6 ft, 0-2 3pt, 14 reb (5 off), 5 asst, 3 bl, 1 TO -As usual, did a bit of everything. There really are not many obvious minutes for Kaleb this season, but he may be a tough guy to keep on the bench -all over the boards on both ends. The ball just seems to find him on rebounds - he knows where to be. He also moves very well laterally. He gets rebounds out of his area by moving quickly laterally (rather than by outleaping opponents. -passed the ball really well today. Often brought the ball up court in transition or semi-transition; began to drive to the hoop, drawing a help defender quickly because he is so good at attacking with his left hand. Immediately found the wide open shooter in the corner when the help defender left the shooter open. He did this 4 or 5 times. -Had a great block of vaughn at the rim - pretty much blocked a dunk -had another beautiful block - player tried to euro-step him in transition. He patiently let the guy make his euro-step move without leaving his feet, then jumped up to swat the shot out of the air as soon as the guy released his shot -had a strong +1 finish through heavy contact - twice in a row late in the game -it is hard not to love Kaleb’s game. Smart, controlled, aggressive, athletic. He needs to gain strength, and his outside shooting needs work (although he hit 5-6 foul shots today, and his form is solid). But Kaleb has a chance to develop into a really good player over time, and he may force himself onto the court as a freshman more often than expected.

Oohs & Ahhs (Akoy) vs On Point (Josh Hart):
Quiet day for Akoy. 3-4 guys (including two bigs) showed up for Oohs & Ahhs who hadn't played in the last couple games. Seemed like there was some kind of obligation to play everyone who showed up so it cut into Akoy's minutes and he spent half the game on the bench and could never get into the groove.
It also seemed to mess up the chemistry that had been established between Robert Carter, Tyler Cavanaugh, Yuta Watanabe and Akoy as players were being shuffled in and out every couple minutes.
Josh Hart had a okay day but his 3pters were off. Maybe hit 1 of 5. Length seems to really bother him on 3s as 6-8 Watanabe was guarding him and closing out on his 3s. Maybe something to think about when we play Nova stick Akoy or Copeland on him.
Close game but On Point pulled it out by 3. I think Ohhs and Ahhas had a couple chances to tie it up but didn't make the best decisions.
Higher Level (The Two Tre's) vs Hoops Magic (Derrickson, Julian Vaugh, Riyan Williams)
Mourning was really the only big for Higher Level and he had his hands full with Julian Vaughn, Jason Love and Derrickson.
Derrickson played small forward, and was sometimes matched up with 6-3 Byron Allen but Hoops Magic didn't take advantage of the mismatch in the low post. Derrickson hit a wide open 3 and some baskets and boards down low. Alot of substitutions going on with Hoops Magic as they also had more guys on the bench then in the previous games.
Vaughn was effective down low, finishing things strong but maybe not as good a game as he had on Saturday.
Mourning did okay considering how badly Higher Level was outsized. Grabbed some boards, defended the post and was hitting his midrange.
First Half was the Byron Allen show for Higher Level but he slowed down after banging his knee and going to the bench and wasn't as dominant as he had been. That's when Tre Campbell and the tweener forward from UVA started to take over. They just started out running the bigger Hoops Magic with a 3 guard offense.
Riyan made some plays but was limited by PT and the quality of the guard heavy Higher Level. He had a nice baseline dunk attempt. Looks like he got hammered but no foul call. This game also went down to the wire with Riyan Williams having a chance to tie it up with a 3 at the buzzer but it fell short. The Two Tre's Higher Level team advances.
I think what it came down to it in both games was that the teams with the short benches and established chemistry won whereas the two teams with the 10 man bench lost because they ended up trying to give time to the entire bench. I think Ohhs and Ahhs (#1 seed) and Hoops Magic were the much better teams and would have easily won if they had been able to stick to a tighter rotation.
