Sunday:
Tre Campbell: Nothing stood out but we already know what he can do.
Trey Mourning: Nice mid range game. Has decent handles ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. Some nice backdoor type pass attempts that weren't finished. Body is strong (but not finished filling out). Moves his feet like Alonzo when backpedalling back to defense. I think you'll get maybe 10 minutes a game out of him this year.
Akoy Agau: Blocking shots, rebounding, playing D, shooting from 3. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor from the 3pt line and attack the basket. Good handles and very quick first step. He could probably even play the 3. Can play anywhere from 3-5 for us. He looks really good and will get alot of minutes.
Kaleb Johnson: Second time watching him and it's going to be hard to keep him off the floor. Very long and tall for a shooting guard or small forwrad. He has really nice handles and was the guy who was bringing the ball up for them on offense. Athletic enough, attacks the basket, very long defensively, has a nose for the rebound and the loose ball. Has a nice shooting touch but doesn't really shoot outside much in Kenner. I think it's more that he looks for wide open looks and is selective on his outside shot and defers as a freshman than anything else. I think we'll see at least 15 min up to 20 minutes a game from him at the 2 and the 3 this year.
Bradley Hayes: Still in forearm cast. Think he'll still be out about a month. Has his thumb immobilized.
DSR: Seemed to be playing half speed and loose. Left the game half way through second half with some injury and never came back. Went to get Fenlon and one other guy and all three went to the hallway. Tweaked back maybe? Whatever it is doesn't look serious but looks they are being cautious about.
Peak: Look great. Especially defensively, he's causing havoc, getting lots of steals and disrupting the offense. Defense seems even better thanks to the U19 experience. Seems to have alot of confidence gained from U19. Outside shot is looking pretty good too.
Riyan Williams: Was hitting a lot of threes. Looked pretty good. Will still be hard to get him significant minutes on this years' deep team. Plus he can only really play shooting guard with his size and skill set.
Paul White: Looked okay. This kind of Kenenr/AAU up and down the court type game doesn't really allow him to showcase his game as the ball doesn't get into his hands.
*Derek Cooke Jr.: This guy from Wyoming Dunktown USA and teammate of Larry Nance Jr. put on a dunking clinic. I'm not sure if he's just in town for the weekend but he went to Friendly and is from the area and just signed with a Greek team after also having tryouts with the Dolphins, Cowboys and Nuggets. Never played basketball in high school. Had a 6 inch growth spurt after graduating highschool. 6-3 to 6-9. 72% field goal percentage at Wyoming last year.
Mike Longren: GW coach and his family were in the stands cheering on his 12 GW players. Went over and talked to III for a while.
Govan: Looked like a beast out there. Hook shots, outside shots, rebounds, solid defense. Doesn't seem to block that many shots but his size and length alters shots. Does seem to get winded sometimes. 2nd Half the opponents started to double and triple team him more so he was quieter.
His Kenner team plays him the whole game. Probably looking at around 25 minutes a game this year which is in line with Hibbert's minutes.
Copeland: Looked great as usual. Was raining 3s. 7-8 3s maybe.
Derrickson: First time watching him and was a little disappointed considering the hype. To be fair Govan was guarding him the whole game and vice versa because there was nobody else who could matchup with Govan on Derrickson's team. Govan's ability to close out and length bothered Derrickson on his 3s. And Derrickson either couldn't or wouldn't drive past Govan when Govan was guarding him on the perimeter. Down low, Derrickson was hesitant about going straight up, instead pump faking (and noone was biting). By the time he did decide to go up there was usually another guy such as Kaleb ready to block or pressue his shot. Doesn't seem to have the best lift from what I saw. From what I saw I'm not sure he can play the 3 and he can't play the 5 so his likely position is a stretch 4. He's someone who will either end up being a tweener or a matchup nightmare.
His 3pt shot does look very good (in warm ups). He seems like someone who will be automatic if he has open looks in the Princeton.
