Does being fired up make you hit shots? Didn't realize this is NBA jam. We have a very even keeled coach, which leads to a very even keeled team. Did you even see Mack vs JTIII near the end? One was practically sh*ting himself, which one was that? It may not be what everyone wants and is looking for but that is his style. Well his style isn't working and is never going to work!!! He got out coached so bad it wasn't funny. He wasn't the reason the team started playing better.. It was the players the ones that got mad and buckled down and played some ball. The style that JT3 has doesn't get you anywhere and he has proved that every season.HE NEEDS TO GET MAD!!! Get in those kids faces and quit acting like the pope. This is fairly ridiculous. If you think the current coach can't motivate the guys, you just aren't paying attention. And if you think he's quiet and meek and mild, you're also not paying attention.

At least my marriage will stay intact. If my wife woke up tomorrow to the news that I had booked an Amtrak ticket to New York while she was sleeping, I might have had to just stay in New York and start a new life there... It's pricey but there's lots of good food. Plus, she might like it.

The bad shots were from about the 18 min mark til 8 min mark of the second half. First half shots were fine. I must disagree. After we went up 19-11 we just started chucking 3's incredibly early in the shot clock. If the shot you are taking with 30 seconds left in the clock with no one under the basket to rebound is going to be available with 3 seconds left, it's a bad shot. They were open, but they really weren't shots the guys that were taking them could make. Jabril needs to step into his 3 or already have his feet set. None of his shots in the first allowed him to do either. Campbell doesn't need to be shooting from 4 feet behind the line. DSR was taking shots he can't make too. It was just a messed of rush chaos with no ball movement. The only shot they missed that was a good shot that I can remember was Copeland on the baseline near the end of the first half. Open does not equal good. I was just really disappointed in the shot selection. Yeah I disagree. Among others the bowen airball, the peak brick from way outside the 3 point line when smith was free on the baseline, the Hopkins barely touching iron forced hook shot all were rushed, unnecessary, desperation shots and they all occurred in the second half. The first half shots we missed were incredibly open and several were in and out.

Actually, there's a lot more to prepping a basketball team than firing up a team. If emotion was all that mattered there'd be no need to recruit high quality athletes. The focus on emotion and "fire" is misplaced.

I agree with most of this except our first half shooting wasn't just caused by missing open shots. We were taking bad shots, even though they were open. They were rushed, they were taken without making the defense move, and they were taken without having anyone even around to possibly rebound. I think this team is a good shooting team when they move the ball and take smart shots. The problem is, they really haven't figured it out offensively and it looks like they won't this year. The first half and the first half of the second half they just were doing a terrible job moving the defense and getting the right guys in the right places to score. The reason more shots were falling in the second half vs the first half was the type of shot guys were getting because the defense actually had to move to guard them. But other than that, I agree with you. I (obviously) disagree. We took a few bad shots, and you always will. But we missed easy lay-ups. We missed wide open threes. DSR missed shots he made last night all game. Ike missed two of the baseline shots that would spark the comeback. And we didn't really attack any different -- we executed better. Shots went in, and there were a few plays that the passes were snappier than before. Yes, we had the long Tre attempt and a couple of Hopkinses. We had Jabril forcing it a bit, but a) in the run those got called as fouls and b) those were partially doomed because we had already missed the open shots. There were dumb shots. But there weren't a lot of them. Just a lot of missed shots. I just hope next week we make em early and often. We attacked COMPLETELY different during our run. We moved White to point forward and actually looked to attack over the zone and into the middle. Once Copeland made a few of his shots they started collapsing which is what opened up the good 3's by Trawick and White. We didn't make their defense move at all in the first. We missed wide open three because they were out of our range or because we weren't able to step in to them and set up. I thought DSR's shot selection was the worst of all during that stretch and really should have been trying to settle the offense rather than force whatever it was he was trying to do tonight. We started playing desperate when we extended the league, which is what was most mind boggling. There were some missed open shots in there obviously, Copelands come to mind immediately, but I really think the shooting improved once the quality of our shot improved. I think if teams gave us those same shots we took in the first half and first part of the second half, we shoot just as poorly every time. They weren't good shots, they were exactly what Xavier wanted us to get sucked into.

It was nice to see Copeland step up after having been MIA offensively for the last 4 and a half games. He's really the key to the post season because he gives us that 3rd offensive weapon that can open up the offense. He really needs to aggressively keep shooting and scoring and take alot of shots.
White hitting the key three hopefully that will help his confidence.
As far as the alleyoop I thought that was a rookie mistake by White at a key juncture in the game. It was a five point lead with a chance to cut it to three with plenty of time. An alleyoop, especially from that far away is just such a risky play at that point in the game because not connecting is basically a turnover which is what happened. That basically put us back and lost us about 30-45 seconds as it took about that long to bring the score back down to five.

X's strategy all night was very simple. Single Josh with Stainbrook, run 2 guys at DSR, and live with anyone else beating them. It's why I'm really not that mad that DSR struggled tonight. X's game plan was built to stop him, and it succeeded. Josh was providing the lift until the Macura flop, but we didn't have anyone else step up until Ike late.

You're reaching. Last I checked they came out on fire, jumped out to a 19-11 lead. Mack made a great in game adjustment going to the 1-3-1, and it took us some time to settle, but III made somes adjustments too. We got some good looks especially in the second half. We literally couldn't throw it into the ocean for a good 20 minutes. III tried a lot of different things, and finally settled on the combo of White and Copeland with DSR off the ball and Trawick creating contact. Everyone started to hit some shots, and it was a completely different game.

I said plenty on the game thread, don't think I was being overtly critical or over the top - but if others thought so my apologies.
A few thought from the game
Shooting - this is not austin freeman, j Clark and c wright where we could go 50% from three. Outside of Dsr out guys are streaky and Dsr isn't perfect. But he has been very clutch including last night.
Matchups - I'm not that intelligent, but x is a bad matchup for us. They just are. X is a good team. But they aren't a top 20 team. They do have our number.
Coaching - X's coach is very good. I think I can say that without detracting from jtiii. He has had our number this year. Seems like jtiii finally found something that worked towards the end, but that coach is very very good.
Jtiii and timeouts. Yes I too wish he used them to stop runs. But if he did maybe he doesn't have them down the stretch tonight. I dunno I think we as fans can yell and scream about him taking timeouts while still respecting the guy. I dunno I like getting worked up about them but it seems to me to be a situation where you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. I do like how it's such a topic on this board.
NCAA - the team is good. We have our flaws. Every team does. I hope we get a good match up and we come to play. I told myself when we were down 20 tonight. Just play, make a shot and get a stop and see what happens. Compete. The team did that. They had about a 20 min brain fart where they forgot how to play basketball, which was frustrating and embarrassing but hey. They are 20ish years old. People can loss their minds during the game. It's a game. Let the player play and the fans be fanatical.
They came back and made it a game. It's still disappointing. But the guys fought. And kudos to them for that.

I'm not trying to be contentious, but those were bad shots.

What makes this a ridiculous question is its complete lack of context with your fairly transparent agenda behind it. No one is psyched about how the postseason has gone but people disagree greatly as to why the "failures" have occurred. On top of that, anyone that says that it's all because of coaching is, frankly, wrong.

I'm not trying to be contentious, but those were bad shots. In addition to those shots, Copeland had a terrible forced runner, Trawick took a similarly terrible contested three and had at least one bad forced drive that resulted in a contested lay-up. Those are six bad shots just off the top of my head in a ten minute period. I really don't know how you can defend our first half shot selection. DSR makes himself too one dimensional when he makes decisions like he did today.
