Rematch is January 27. I expect a much different game and result.

Obviously III game-planed for a much different defensive team than the one Xavier put out there tonight. Then it seemed like he didn't know what to do when our offensive sets weren't working. He drew that one play for Peak but he missed the lay-up and then we didn't have anything new to throw at them. Definitely think the crowd was a factor, those predicting a docile atmosphere couldn't have been more wrong.

No, it just seems that way. A 20 point loss when you are the 25th ranked squad in the nation is not a good sign.

We missed a lot of shots tonight. Nobody stepped up to support DSR. Josh couldn't stay on the floor. Far too many turnovers.

Not much intensity on the court, and not much on the staff, either. The freshman have all but disappeared.
A great formula for 9-9.

Few thoughts from this loss....
1. First time this year our offense has looked very predictable. A lot of the cutting and third/fourth options were non-existent. Seemed like we just played through DSR and Smith and Xavier was very good at keying-in on those guys and limiting their ability to go off. None of the other guys, namely Peak and White were able to contribute scoring. White's shot has been off and Peak has had an inexplicable inability to finish at the rim recently. Weird. Although, I thought Xavier was good about limiting turnovers and breaking our press. We couldnt generate many points from our defense. Credit to Xavier for playing smart and disciplined.
2. Aside from that series where we got four offensive rebounds, I thought we got badly outhustled. Guys looked lethargic and they let their guard down at bad moments like boxing out during free throws. Some of this is inexperience and some of the laziness I just can't expain. Maybe cause we had a ranking next to our name our guys got complacent? Either way, Xavier looked A LOT hungrier all game. Interesting that in both games at Xavier they've used big, late second half runs to put us away. They looked like they fed off their crowd a lot.
3. Missing freethrows and turning the ball over continue to be big problems. Too many drives right into traffic and getting your pocket picked. Some of this goes back to issue #1. Xavier doubled DSR off the pick and made him cough it up a few times. They also clearly played Trawick to drive.
4. Foul trouble keeps plaguing this team. I thought the refs were pretty bad on both ends and there seems to be a general trend in CBB for refs to over-anxiously call fouls where none exist. Some of this are the new rules but I think a culture of fouls has just prevaded the game that too often changes the pace of the game. Ultimately, I don't think it made a difference in this game since we got soundly beat but frustrating nonetheless.
5. Some of JT3's substitution patterns in this game just appeared weird to me. I get Jabril and DSR had some foul trouble and he was playing offense-defense at the end but what was up with Reggie Cameron in there? I think it was a one possession game when he came in and took an ill-advised shot...
6. Good crowd and good environment for this game. Generally speaking, it's a cool idea that I think Fox Sports and the BE pulled off pretty well. Just woulda been nice to get this W....

I could see Xavier - and perhaps Creighton as well - becoming something akin to what West Virginia was in the old Big East (and Marquette perhaps still is now): a road venue where the Hoyas will have to be head and shoulders superior in order to prevail.

Never had a lead, got within 1 with two chances to take the lead, then collapsed. 38-22 run to end the game.

Just like some of the people predicting 14-4 are being irrationally exuberant 9-9 seems a little pessimistic. Unfortunately, I do think we're closer to that end of the spectrum than we are to winning the conference. Always thought a team that relied on so much youth would have some bumps. 10-8 or 11-7 seemed about right to me. This conference is a lot tougher than it gets credit for, even now with it's high conference RPI. There are no doormats in this league as Depaul evidenced tonight.....

2-13 from three just doesn't cut it.

2-13 from three just doesn't cut it. Agreed. This is really a huge problem for our offense. When we don't have threes and we struggle to get Josh Smith going, it makes us extremely one dimensional. The good Georgetown teams of the mid-2000s shot threes well.

Maybe your new year's resolution should be to say something positive about this team. Seriously, do you ever post something that's not whining or complaining or negative? I bet your 9-9 prediction is about as accurate as your prediction at the halftime of the IU game.

While I do really worry about how good we actually are, we would really have to play some poor basketball over the next 3 months to find a way to lose 9 games in this current conference. That stated, if we did finish 9-9, I'll feel for the moderators because a 9-9 record would lead to back to back NIT trips and this talk board would be going nuts.

Extremely disappointing...outcoached, outpassioned and out executed...why do we always look like we just came out of a deep freeze in the first 10 mns. of games...first possession, turnover...where's the rhythm, the flow...why can't Hopkins and Trawick make foul shots...why do we let guys go over our backs and slam in offensive rebounds...why can't anybody make a perimeter jump shot, or for that matter a point blank field goal/layup...not only did we play with a laziness at times, we also didn't play smart, efficiently or with enough fight... team looks to be about a 4th or 5th place team in the league..Happy New Year.

Maybe your new year's resolution should be to say something positive about this team. Seriously, do you ever post something that's not whining or complaining or negative? Do you ever wander beyond this board to the front page? When the Hoyas do well, the recaps reflect it. Lots of good discussion on the IU game. Not so much this enneing. Maybe you're a 17-1 optimist, but from this view, the outside shooting is showing no improvement and this team deflates when DSR is not on the court. Trawick can't carry the offensive load, Smith is immobile, Peak is not there yet, and Hopkins is channeling Courtland Freeman out there. And if there's something to be said on where Isaac Copeland is nearly halfway through the season, let's talk.

Did the whole conference suddenly institute s rule that freshmen are not allowed to play? Or wsd it just our program. I know it was the first road conference game for them, but for such a hyped group they were pathetic. They played with no poise whatsoever, and White and Copeland in particular played like frightened mice. Very disappointing. I hope they use this as motivation to work their butts off.
Not that most of the rest were much better. Josh and DSR made dome plays, and Hop was strong enough on defense to cancel out his terrible offensive game.
Happy New Year Hoya fans.

Anyone have a link for a replay of this game? First Row was not working, just showing a live stream of FS1.
