Charlotte is a decent team. Kenpom has them 96. They have wins over Penn St and South Carolina. Their losses are to Miami 2x, GW, and Davidson so nothing embarrassing there. Offense 72nd, Defense 118th. Poor defensive FG% 257th, poor at forcing turnovers 272nd, Really bad at shooting FTs 338th 58.5% as a team (so our predilection for fouling shouldn't hurt us this game). Basically poor in every defensive category: opponent 3pt%, opponent 2pt%, opponent FT%, Blk%, Stl%. Only things they really do well is they don't send other teams to the line 27th, and don't get the ball stolen 46th.
They have good size 6'5, 6'1, 6'5, 6'8, 6'11 appears to be their most used line up. Team seems to suffer from sophomore/junior year Hopkins syndrome: Their least efficient players are using the majority of their possessions. The two players using over 24% of possessions have an efficiency of 89.4 and 83.1 while their two highest Ortg players: 116.8 and 119.3 use 20 and 14 % of possessions respectively.
Their PF and C do a good job offensive rebounding, so that should be a good test for our rebounding.

This might be Reggie Cameron's and Bradley Hayes last chance to really make a case for more minutes during the Big East season. I hope that's not the case but it always seems like some players kind of disappear from the rotation around this time. I would love to see a Hayes sighting in the 1st half again.

I'm much more concerned with DSR getting his shot back, and Ike continuing to improve. IMO that is much more important to our season's success than Bradley and Reggie getting minutes.

It was nice to see Reggie hit that three on Saturday. Finally showing off a bit of the stroke that made him so good in HS.

Excluding the Wisconsin game, DSR is shooting 33.8% from the field and 17.6% from 3 this year. Getting him to at least approach BE POY standards would do wonders for this team. Hopefully it starts on Saturday.

I think it goes without saying that DSR gets he shot back....if he doesn't then we can flush the season right now.
I think he is too good a player not to bounce back.

DSR has had shooting slumps before. Like any good shooter, it is just a matter of time before he breaks out. Better to have the slump now than in Feb./March.

Is this part of the BB&T classic? I have to admit, I am sort of surprised by this game. As HSB said, this is a fairly decent opponent. Seems like an odd choice for a December 20th game, when there will be pretty much zero students around. You usually play the cupcakiest of cupcakes right around now. The one good thing, I suppose, is that we've had a lot of time off for finals this year. There cant be much excuse about focus. By contrast, Charlotte played last night and plays again Thursday.

I like this game on this date. A good opponent, but a game that the Hoyas should win with focus and intensity. I really hope to see a coordinated, smart effort, even if some of the execution is a bit rusty.

Can I agree with you and still want Hayes and Cameron to do well? If Hayes could play well enough to earn significant minutes, then the Hoyas would be a much stronger team.I still have high hopes for that young man. He could have a senior year like Sims.

It seems like Coach is inseting Hayes into the line up earlier than last year. I believe he is rearing to go too.

Player improvement is a zero sum game!!!! Seriously, though, obviously I'd love to have Reggie and Bradley play well, and it would greatly help the team if they did. But there's only so many minutes to go around in a game, and if we're up big, I'd still want DSR and Copeland in the game to iron out their issues rather than have Reggie and Bradley in the game. Not that they play remotely the same positions, but you get what I mean.
