At the very least, make McDermott beat us. If we're going to go down, let's go down because we made the likely Wooden Award winner beat us (and hopefully helped the Big East by burnishing his resume for the Wooden Award)

Through no fault of my own I wound up watching the Villanova-Creighton game. Forget all the threes. What impressed me most was the great guard play and the fact that just about everyone of the Creighton players could handle the ball, drive, pass and of course SHOOT. Their little guard, Chatman was very impressive. I think we have a much better chance beating Nova than this team. In fact, I predict Creighton will win the BE and possibly represent the BE in the final four. They are just hitting their stride.

I wonder is we see the same rotation off the bench as the Marquette Game Moses, Caprio, Domingo, "boneheaded/terrible" Bowen??
or the same distribution of minutes too
Moses 30 mins Lubick 25 mins. Caprio 22 mins Cameron 19 mins. Bowen 13 mins. Domingo 3 mins.

Creighton also played as poorly as we did against Providence two days earlier. I think this season is lost without at least Trawick and probably without both he and Josh, but i think most teams have pretty big flaws.

I agree completely on making McDermott beat us. I wouldn't start to double him unless he's making everything and, even then, only on the low block. Needless to say, we don't match up teribly well with them defensively if and when we go man. One (or two) of our bigs will need to guard McDermott and the other forward, both of whom are perimeter players but tall enough to require size on defense. I think this is going to be a tough game for Moses to get significant minutes, except by necessity. Not that Nate or Hop are defensive geniuses, but I think they stand a better chance against players of that type. I would expect we'll see Aaron for many more minutes this game -- he may be needed to guard one of the forwards.

Granted one game can be deceiving but remember this was a road game against a #4 team. And like I said it wasn't their shooting that impressed me but their guard play and their all around skill at every position. Plus they also seemed pretty deep. The only team I've been more impressed with was Kansas and they too are hitting their stride.

Creighton played a mid-major schedule last year and will probably win the BE this year. That tells everyone the level of talent in the BE and we are under .500 in the league

Caprio 22 mins Cameron 19 mins. Bowen 13 mins. Domingo 3 mins. That poor dead horse must be awfully tired of being beaten. I'm not sure anyone defined Aaron as "boneheaded" or "awful". They just referenced some boneheaded plays he made, or an awful game or half that he had. Every guy on this team has had his share of those moments this season. In the end, JTIII has to try to have a feel for which guys can contribute the most in a particular game, half, situation, etc. - and also which guys are bigger liabilities in that moment. Aaron may play 25 minutes against Creighton and have a great game - or he may press too hard, take some bad shots or miss some defensive assignments, and play 12. The same probably applies for Cameron, Moses, Hop, Nate, even Domingo. And the Coach obviously doesn't get it right every game. But there are really only 2 guys on this squad that are "trusted" (partially out of necessity) by JTIII to the extent that they will get huge minutes no matter how they play. The others have to earn their minutes game by game.

You can take the total of those minutes right there and allocate them however you damn well please and the results will not be any better. Because no matter how you slice it, this team just doesn't have the horses. It doesn't matter what 3 guys you put on the floor with the guards because, no matter the combination, the talent just isn't there. The losses are not piling up because of in-game roster mis-management. It's because of roster mis-management on a macro level, an unfortunate injury, and a kid who completely let his teammates down and should be ashamed to sit on the bench with them.

Creighton is the team to beat. If we beat them, our stock, going into the final stretch, will jump significantly. On the other hand, the Creighton I saw the other night was clicking on all cylinders. They actually reminded me of FAGC, very athletic, high flying, willing to shoot from anywhere on the floor.

The next three games, Creighton, Villanova, and Michigan State are going to be very, very tough. Three talented teams, all playing at a much higher level. Is an upset possible, of course, but unlikely, we just don't have the horses to run in these races. I expect losing streak to go to 6, 7 losses in last 8 games, tough stretch.
I hope the games are respectable, a blow out or two is possible.
I'll be at MSG for the Michigan State game, anyone else going?

"This program was not built to feel sorry for Itself, so we have to go back and we have to fight." III, 1/21/14 Move on, get a stop and get a win. Did he happen to mention what this team is built to do? Because I'm not sure it's "win basketball games."

That tells everyone the level of talent in the BE and we are under .500 in the league Who cares what kind of schedule they played last year? Creighton > most (probably all) mid majors. Creighton > most of the Big East. That does not mean most of the Big East = mid major.

Ah, we have Creighton just where we want them - overconfident. We have to win this game to stay in the running for the Jesuit trophy. We are 0-2 right now.

I rather see bowen over caprio any day. caprio was awful missing free throws,a bone head foul under a minute left he needs to stay on the bench

For the season: Aaron Bowen FT = 50% John Caprio FT = 44% (50% last night)
Just sayin'.
I'll grant the foul being completely boneheaded, but (A) I think it was a pretty touchy call. But, more importantly, (B) of all the players on our roster, do you really have that much confidence that someone else from our bench could not or would not have made that boneheaded play just as easily?
I'm not arguing for more minutes for Caprio, I think Bowen brings a lot more to the table on any given night, just saying that I don't think he played as badly as lots of people are indicating.
As an afterthought, the fact that we shoot 68% from the line as a team is ridiculous. There is virtually no one outside of our starting backcourt who can be counted on from the stripe.

Without Smith to balance the defense for our guards, the Hoyas have very little chance to win. However, just play hard and hope for a bad shooting night for CU. Guys have nothing to lose, we will be huge underdogs, go out and play loose, all the pressure is off.
