Didn't they learn anything from the ton of 2-3 zone that they played against last year and the 2-3 zone they used more than any other III team I can remember?

I hope this game makes the team re-focus and never take another team for granted this season. That has been the case come NCAA's when you can't turn back. Season Over.
At least we got this one out the way in November.

III better be headed straight to the film room to watch some game tape and come up with something new otherwise, we'll lose all 3 games this weekend. We're a terrible defensive team and to win games we're gonna have to score points! Passing the ball around the perimeter waiting for something to happen is NOT gonna get it done! This is exactly the type of game we lose in March, the only consolation is that this game is in November. There's quite a bit of work that needs to be done I just don't think this team has the talent or leadership to do it.

Wow, I just tuned in...what's the key specific takeaways other than the fact we are terrible? Starks, trawick, and lubick were awful. Did not go down to smith. No leadership No Otto No whit Good enough? Folks can't complain about not having Whitt or Otto. We've known all along they weren't gonna be a part of this squad.. I'm glad you mentioned Trawick though because he brings very little to the court.. He can't shoot, can't finish & he's overrated defensively..

Board: name me one good rebounder on this team. who's gonna rebound the ball consistently? if you're a guard, would you be afraid to drive the paint? Who's gonna stop you?

this team is not going to out score people. they have the two forward spots that they get almost no scoring from. starks and rivera are maddeningly inconsistent and josh is going to have 2/3 people around him at all times.

I have never come down on III despite the recent ncaa debacles but how can this team STILL have no idea how to attack a zone? this is several years that these teams have no plan on how to score against a zone. just an inexcusable performance by III and the upperclassmen on this team. no leadership on the bench or the court on this team. It's not JTIII or the Hoyas. It's the composition of this year's team. We aren't long and tall like we were last year at the wings. And we lack anyone (outside of Jabril) who can really dribble penetrate. And right now nobody is making them pay from 3pt line against the zone. That lack of length also hurts us on offensive rebounds because the zone will give up alot of offensive rebound opportunites. Remember last year we had alot of success against the zone because one we could see over it and two we had Otto to break the zone. It's going to take some time to find what line ups work best against the zone. I think more Moses is a big key in terms of offensive rebounds vs the zone. And Jabril as the primary ball handler/point vs the zone. Against the zone I would have Jabril at point with Markel and DSR on the wings of the perimeter, Josh Smith in the middle and Moses running the baseline. That is the best line up vs the zone.

Markel DSR Cameron Mikael Josh If we want to win games this season, this needs to be the five who plays the most minutes. We cannot survive in today's game with Trawick and Lubick getting major minutes. If teams only have to guard three people, it will be impossible to score. Figure the defense out later. But with the way the rules are in college basketball right now, you aren't always going to stop people. We have to be able to score. starks struggled today, I dont know if he can just get a pass for starting the last 2 years

If Northeastern did that, then what is Kanas and Michigan State going to do. This team stinks. The coaching stinks.

There's just not a lot of talent on this team. People say "we only lost Otto". That's true, but he opened up so much for the other players on the offensive end being the focus of other defenses, and he took care of defense and rebounding at a very high level. Fast forward to this year and the rest of the guys don't see as many open looks because opponents don't have to worry about Otto, and we have a serious dropoff on defense and rebounding without him.
Our skilled players are not athletic (Smith, DSR, Starks, Lubick) and our athletic players are not skilled (Hopkins, Bowen, Ayegba, Trawick). Cameron is a wild card and I am holding out hope, but I suspect he will be another skilled, unathletic player who can score sometimes and is a liability on defense and rebounding.

It was a 3-2 zone that almost begs you to penetrate and dish. when you have guards who think they can do it by themselves this is what you get.

We know better than most fanbases how much changes from November to March. Maybe we reverse our recent habits this year. I'd take a bad start for a stronger finish. Still, this was a terrible loss.
