Nate Lubick has been starting for 4 years...I do not think he will be losing playing time or going anywhere. Nate actually played great in the first half and fair most of the second half. That last pass was terrible, obviously, so that's how his game will be judged. Coach never adjusted to the little denial the guards at the top of their zone kept throwing out to prevent an easy pass to the corner around the key. IN response, our guards just threw it back and forth at the top of the key as if it was a complete denial (when really it was just a flash). So the ball never went to the corner, never rotated the zone back, and as a result there were never seams to drive or get it in to Smith (or any other big guy). It really is that simple. I don't say this often. But this loss is 100% on III.

I have never come down on III despite the recent ncaa debacles but how can this team STILL have no idea how to attack a zone? this is several years that these teams have no plan on how to score against a zone. just an inexcusable performance by III and the upperclassmen on this team. no leadership on the bench or the court on this team. I disagree on jt3. We have not had a contacts malfunction nor have we stepped on the sidelines. Our out of bounds plays at least are not turnovers. Something to build on.

Time for our first "we will fix this, that is what we do" quote of the season.

Markel DSR Cameron Mikael Josh
If we want to win games this season, this needs to be the five who plays the most minutes. We cannot survive in today's game with Trawick and Lubick getting major minutes. If teams only have to guard three people, it will be impossible to score. Figure the defense out later. But with the way the rules are in college basketball right now, you aren't always going to stop people. We have to be able to score.

The only way I would feel worse is if I spent the money to fly out to PR to catch the game.
This is the year we are going to have. Our senior leaders are Markel and Nate. As they go, so does the team. Unfortunately, they have had very inconsistent careers. Our performance this year will reflect that. So far, Josh has also been inconsistent.
The coaching on the other hand needs to be addressed. You should put your kids in a position to succeed. Use their strengths and hide their weaknesses. The answer can't always be, we do what we do.
The only consolation is that this game is in November.

I only caught the last seven minutes, but Northeastern attacked every rebound and loose ball, GU not so much. Discouraging reminder of the FGC game - not that athletic and maybe a little short in the toughness department. His father's teams had plenty of the latter, though sometimes not enough to beat teams that had better skills. JTIII's teams seem to be the reverse.

It's become clear that interior is lacking. IMO, get Hayes some run. Size is needed. Let him take his lumps. Ayegba could have helped a bit. Josh doesn't rebound or defend well, he's a pretty good scorer and passer and??? Who's a play maker on this team? Who's the Hank Sims? Who's the defensive stopper?
III has said that the team is trying to figure out who they are but i'm not sure yet if HE knows who his team is yet. For teams like this, defense has GOT to be the focus.

On the flip side... The last time we lost to both Oregon and a CAA team early in the year, we ended up in the Final Four.

JTIII has got to bench Nate and start Hopkins. We don't have a chance if Nate plays 30 minutes a game on this team. And since III won't ever bench Nate - because apparently he can do no wrong - I'm of the belief that this is going to be a lost season. None of III favorites can do no Wrong. As someone said in earlier post, this is typical of how they play in early NCAA ext. In the double Bonus with 8 mins to go. Everyone always in fouls trouble. No rebounding. Stupid play by your Key players and nothing is ever said by III. DSR trys to make a stupid reach around steal foul. Deep 3. Just stupid play while the big man has his man pint in the paint and the team can't make a descent entry pass. III should be a shame of the team that played today and the coaches that coached. What did he say, well, since you were in the huddle?

outscored by 18 pts in the 2nd half by a team that lost to boston university and freaking stony brook. I do not understand how III did not go smaller instead of having 2 of josh/nate/hop/moses on the floor at all times. no defense at all other than reaching and bumping. terrible rebounding. just a miserable performance.

Check the shot chart from the 2nd half. Northeastern took 2 shots in the entire half outside the paint, and not a single three-pointer. Meanwhile, we're chucking from all over the damn arena. That's not the problem though. They are playing 2-3 zone which is conceding the 3pt shot. The problem is most of the lineups we have have no offensive rebounding to collect misses. We are also alot smaller than last year especially at the guard and wing positions. Also right now we lack a zone breaking dribble penetration guard or guy who can flash to the circle (like Otto did last year). Jabril is probably our best guy at dribble penetration but he's not the primary ball handler as Markel and DSR are 1 and 2 behind Jabril gets touches.

Start purchasing NIT tickets.
