But, the point is, it's not baseless or wild speculation to assume he is missing games because he didnt do good in the class stuff. And, as others pointed out, I dont recall college being a place where you could remedy the class stuff in a week or two. I will gladly be wrong. Wait, an academic suspension means it's not baseless or wild speculation to say he didn't "do good in the class stuff." really going out on a limb there... If I had a dime for every incomplete resolved in the first few weeks of the following semester, or even potential Fs that were marked as Incomplete on the condition of getting some extra work in early the next semester, well, I would have a few dimes even off my own transcript:)

I think you're in denial if you are taking both (a) the position that we recruit only great kids who graduate, except where we don't, in which case it is because we are committed to giving kids an opportunity, and (b) the position that anybody else who takes or retains bad kids or gives them another chance after academic or other issues is a money-grubbing, win at all costs program that doesn't give a Edited about student-athletes. There was a time when, fair or not (it was not), Georgetown was probably the national face of the "they will take anybody and damn the academics" criticism. Yes, that was undoubtedly grounded in racism rather than actual fact, but there is a warning in there somewhere about being so quick to question the motives of other programs that one does not like. This was part and parcel to the extremely overt racism directed at Pops and the program during the 80's. The "Patrick Ewing Can't Read This" sign being only the most prominent and despicable example. I said that it was racism in my original post.

Hoping it changes but I hear he might be done for the year. I think we all have known this in our hearts since he didn't show up in Providence.

I think its pretty obvious we wont see him again. Im not getting my hopes up When GU stops sharing his status on a per game basis (like with the info related to him not going to Providence, Butler & Xavier), then there's no hope.

If I was a season ticketholder or some alumni who was donating to the program, I would demand more accountability by III. I realize he feels the need to protect the privacy of the student athletes, but I don't believe no one is asking him to spill all the details of what goes wrong. All III needs to share is whether or not the player in question will or will not be returning for the semester...and leave it at that. Instead the program keeps sending out non-information which ends up to leading to endless speculation by not only the media, but the fans and supporters of the team. III is even less open in regards to revealing the status of a player than even his father was.
One other thing. If the Gtown program is so inflexible in regards to putting players back on the court after something goes wrong, the staff may want to try doing a better job on staying on top of the players on its roster to better avoid these situations altogether. Even if it has already been doing that all along...it needs to step up its game on that front.

Even if it has already been doing that all along...it needs to step up its game on that front. Realize it's a touchy subject but MCI is exactly right here. The lack of transparency alienates fans. Most people don't realize or care if there are student privacy rights at play or what have you. They donate or buy tickets thinking they're gonna see one thing but then the product on the court is completely different. I realize injuries happen and lineups are fluid, but when it comes to these nebulous issues like eligibility there is less understanding on the part of fans. We all realize III may not be able to say much because Josh's status may not be resolved yet, but the silence is really tough to bear. When clarity isn't provided people get disgruntled and really don't want to go out of their way to trudge to verizon, or donate out of their pockets. and then people wonder why we cant fundraise quickly enough to build a facility or sell-out home games. this kind of stuff has really bit the team last season with whittington and this year with smith and rest assured there will be a carry-over effect for a season or two in terms of lagging donations and fundraising, just when the program and conference needs it least. I agree with posters that say you shouldnt get on III for the lack of talent because he wasnt expecting to lose two key pieces in Smith and Whit. But it is fair to say that if you have no backup plan, you know you have strict standards and you know you have a couple guys that are border-line, you must really double down on making sure everyone stays eligible.

How do we know the program does not "double down" on the academic side? There is only so much you can do. As much as some want to blame the staff for everything, you can't do the work for these young men - and there are kids who have every ability to do the work, but for whatever reason have some disconnect when they get to college. Sometimes it is actually the player's fault.

Here's my question. If Joshua is ruled ineligible for the rest of the season. Then doesn't it become more precarious counting on him for next season (a la Whittington). So where does that leave the bigs for next season? We have a great recruiting class but no bigs in it. Lubick will depart (although some may not see that as a loss) but that leaves us with Hopkins and Moses and Bradley Hayes (who is a question mark). I guess you can play a couple stretch 4s like Cameron but then you have Hopkins having to play the 5 and he plays alot worse at the center. We will be very undersized at the 4 and 5.

Sometimes it is actually the player's fault. Moreover, Josh Smith came in as a last minute transfer last year. While I suppose it's possible some season ticket holders made their decisions based on Josh Smith, I think that number is few and far between. As it is, prior to the season, nobody believed Smith could play before late December anyway. The things killing our ticket sales are the old Big East dissolving (and with it, many of the big-draw teams that packed the Verizon Center), and our recent post-season failures, not Josh Smith's eligibility. I think it's ridiculous that fans will ignore regular season, and pile onto the hype train that is the NCAA tournament, but it's the way it is. If we make another Final Four, you'd see the ticket sales go up.

Thompson just wants to prove you can with a team consisting almost entirely of small forwards In all seriousness though, Cameron and White/Copeland will (hopefully) be relied upon to play a stretch 4. Frankly, I think that's the way Cameron should be used the rest of this season as well. But without Lubick and possibly Smith next year, we clearly don't have the depth to play 2 true big men in the lineup. Which frankly is probably a good thing. Historically, the offense generally seems to run better when we've had a four who forced defenses to respect his perimeter game - Green, Summers, Hollis. I don't really see any other conceivable way to play it if Josh does not return.

With the talent coming in next year by December the Hoyas will have a team that can hide the deficiencies of Moses and Bradley on defense. The problem with Moses now is that he can't give many minutes of rebounding and defense in the middle because he fouls too much. III's defensive scheme calls for a lot of switching in man-to-man and a lot of help defense in zone. Both defenses require foot speed and lateral movement at the wings especially the four position. Nate, and Cameron do not have he foot speed or lateral movement to cover for Moses when his man gets the ball so he is left having to guard him one on one and ends up fouling. Next year by December White, Cropland and Peak at the wings will have the defensive system down pat such that hey will be able to cover in III's zone and man-to-man. Their offense will also open up more rebounds for Moses and Bradley.

But I'm arguing that based upon back-to-back seasons of this stuff, the staff may have to consider working harder on that front. And that is not to say that Greg and Josh's issues are the same. I still contend that there was something other (or more) than academic problems going on with Greg last season (which reared its ugly head again this season). Regardless of that my main contention is that III owes the fans and supporters more information than "no comment" when it comes to whether a player will suit up again for a semester. If it is a done deal for Josh, as some here suggest, then I feel III should come out and say so. He doesn't have to provide further details, just let the public know if the guy's season has come to an end.

But he clearly isn't done for the semester yet because if he was then JT3 would say something like he did last year with Greg. Prior to the 3rd game it was announced via ESPN, CBS and all the major outlets that Greg was done. If Joshua was also done it would be released. Clearly his status is still being determined as of the last contact with the press. The team should be meeting with the Media today. Either it will be announced Joshua is done or they will say as they have that he will miss the next game but his status for the year is still undecided.

Does anyone know if he is still practicing with the team? I assume so, but then with the road trip there has been limited practice in D.C. Obviously, this kid cannot afford a prolonged period of inactivity. He needs to be running everyday.
