Not who I was thinking of. Do you want to tell us who you were thinking of or just keep your whole point shrouded in mystery?

Not trying to pick a fight, but I have to disagree with the assumptions being made here. 1) do we know Josh went back to WA for Christmas? And even if the break was 7 days long (which it couldn't be given that they had to practice before FIU), we know all he did was eat bon-bons and get absolutely no exercise at all? Played no basketball, did no drills (despite how badly he needs to make the most of this opportunity)? Ate so much that he had noticeable weight gain (BTW, I did not notice weight gain.)? Sorry, I don't see this. I may be wrong. 2) he maybe needs some time away from basketball and school? This assumes that the young man has issues he needs to work out. So the best thing is for him to step away from a structured environment? Again, there is a history of poor nutritional and fitness issues, but he certainly is in better shape than when he started here. I think assumptions are being made about his state of mind that are not warranted, unless people know something the Board doesn't. 3) he did not play well vs. DePaul (FIU was over so early that we didn't need him as much), and III went out of his way in public comments to let him know the team had other options if there was not max effort. Maybe III meant off as well as on the court, maybe not, I don't know. The grades should have been in then, but I am not sure. But even if III was sending a message for Josh both on and off the court, how do we explain the St. John's game? I would argue it was his second best game all year (after Korea). He was active on both ends, particularly on the defensive end, looking much more effective. He missed some bunnies, but I think the effort was there. So can't we also assume he hasn't packed it in? Maybe he just bombed a final. Maybe he doesn't care. I don't know. But I don't think the kid just waltzes through what is probably his last shot at getting truly prepared for a career as a professional athlete, where he could make millions of dollars. Why come all the way out here if he was going to go through the motions? I hope he is able to rectify the issue and get back on the court. We are a better team with him, and he is better off playing for Georgetown than not. I hope the Josh Smith era at Georgetown continues. This. It's just like some hoyatalkers to make up "observations" and come to conclusion about someone's whole life by how they looked when they woke up on Monday morning Chill out. I did not come to conclusions about his "whole life" that people should be offended, baffled, or think this thread is unbelievable or ludicrous. Body language is often talked about in sports. I think Josh is a Big Sulk and he seemed extra sulky in his last two games. A game we won (a bit frustrating) but still you would hope the guys are happy after a Big East opener win. So, I think there is something wrong with him sulking during a game. Don't crucify me for it. I'm not one of those posters that acts like I know more info than any other guy. I thought I was done with this thread because I can't stand the antagonists on here that pick fights, call people trolls, and attack other board members rather than contribute to the topic of conversation. But as I was reading the recap of the Heat/Knicks game from last night I couldn't help myself... "You can tell it's different than one month ago," Bargnani said. "Our faces are different, our body language is different." Amazing. Body language being talked about in a basketball game (what nerve!). How ludicrous to think that benching JR Smith after trying to untie Greg Monroe's shoe (way to dodge it GM) helped the New York Knicks win a game. Bargnani must be a jerk to make a comment based on faces/body language summing up the "whole life" of his team and JR Smith like that(sarcasm).

Not who I was thinking of. Do you want to tell us who you were thinking of or just keep your whole point shrouded in mystery? Well, the former requires him to have information, the latter allows him to look like he has information (whether or not he has it). Roscoe=Hoya 123 Fireballs

I have little hope he is coming back. Tonight you see a bit of what happens when three offensive weapons goes to two. It's disappointing when a second chance is squandered. Sounds like a personal problem... Rock - So what are you doing here? Are you coming to a conclusion about Josh's whole life including on a personal level? In the same thread that you called me out in? Just no...

Your use of ellipses suggests you have more to say. I'm sure it will be just as insightful as your initial two-word answer, but let's hear it anyway. It is obviously appropriate to talk about players' body language. Sometimes as fans, we go a little overboard. For example, "Austin Freeman doesn't smile enough" is a bit silly. But Smith has exhibited body language--and a lot of it--that fans can reasonably raise when discussing his development, contributions, attitude, fit with the team, long-term prospects, etc.

The problem for many of us is that we never have any real, confirmed information. I'm interested in the team in a big way, or I wouldn't be on this board at all. So naturally I'm quite curious as to what happened with Whittington and now with Smith. I'd like to know enough to make a judgment about the team's recruiting standards or monitoring standards or whatever.
But no one ever says anything publicly. Heck, we still don't know whether Tyler Adams's medical condition has a name - it's considered none of our business, although it's obviously had an impact on the team.
So, because we don't have actual facts, we speculate, based on impressions. Personally I don't see anything wrong with that. It's what sports fans do all the time. I can't say that I read much into Smith's body language one way or another, but I don't mind hearing what others have to say about it.
Mostly I suspect Joshua just isn't all that good as a player. Promising in high school, promising again as a freshman, but more or less a bust since, first for UCLA and now for us. Good enough to be a backup but too flawed to be a featured player. He's had some impressive moments, but not enough of them IMHO.

At 330-350 he is slow on defense and can't rebound or block shots.

Am I reading too much into the phrase "clearing up an academic issue"? I infer that it is a matter that CAN be cleared up and that ineligibility not in the offing?

The only good thing I see out of this...is that a lot of posters are not going crazy like last year in there belief that Greg Whittington was coming back to play. Anyone such as myself who said Greg Whittington was not coming back this semester was called a troll or personally attacked. The more games Josh Smith misses regardless of what Georgetown officials say...it becomes obvious He is not coming back.

I agree with all of this except for the parts where you make it about yourself and how you are victimized because of your knowledge. The longer Josh misses, the more serious this issue is, and the worse off things are.
