From the report it's sounds like something he's straightening out, rather than something that might keep him out for a while. Wouldn't be surprised if he's just not done making up work from class time missed. But also I don't know, so we'll see. It cannot be understated how important it is for us to start out with the buckets he gives us in the first few minutes.

I have little hope he is coming back.
Tonight you see a bit of what happens when three offensive weapons goes to two. It's disappointing when a second chance is squandered.

And we quite possibly have no reasonable center option outside of Hopkins next year as well. Great planning and development.

Sounds like a personal problem... I admire your optimism, but it's not likely a coincidence that we lost Whittington at almost exactly the same time last year.

I'm not impressed with the academic advisors. One per year isn't a good number. I wouldn't question our advisors. You can't force a kid to show up for class and do his work. You absolutely can.

How low does your GPA have to be not To be eligible second semester of your senior year? Doesn't the requirement go down each year? It's pretty inexcusable for the program and Georgetown if they couldn't keep a guy I his fourth year of college eligible. I'm not even sure Uconn or Syracuse have screwed up like this.

I don't know Georgetown's academic schedule, but I'm on the adjunct faculty at GW, and grades were due this week . . .
This really disappoints me. I like to think of Gtown as a cut above other schools in whom we recruit and the emphasis we place on academics and character once they are here. But the two big strikes against Greg and this indeterminate one against Joshua challenge my illusions. (I'm not satisfied with his physical condition, either, but that's a separate issue.)

Georgetown doesn't let much info out. Here's part of Liz Clarke's Washington Post article from last year when Greg Whittington missed that game:
And the Hoyas did so without their second-leading scorer and rebounder, sophomore forward Greg Whittington, who didn’t make the trip to New York after violating a team rule. Coach John Thompson III said afterward that he hadn’t determined whether Whittington, who had started all 13 games and was averaging 12.1 points and seven rebounds per outing, would miss more than one game for his infraction.

Unless something has drastically changed since I was an undergrad, grades at Georgetown don't improve in a couple of weeks.

An academic issue can be a number of things, not just GPA.

How could it not GPA? It's not like there was a class to miss.

I think it was the same time last year - 3rd Big East Game - that we lost Greg W, and he was never seen in a Hoya Uni again. This is an XXXXXXL disappointment. For everyone. Including Josh and his family. After watching that travesty of a basketball game, I have to say, I don't care a whole lot about Josh Smith's family. If they want to pony up and reimburse the University for his scholarship, then they'll have my sympathy.

IMO Josh's body language was very poor in the last few games. I don't think he's coming back this year, if at all. Sorry to be so negative but I've been worred about this the last few games - I thought something was up. BTW he looks like he gained weight over the break.

I'll take a PM on Josh's academic statues. K? Thanks.
We should hire Syracuse's academic advisors! They always seem to get their players eligible.
123 fireballs!
