Otto deserves the praise. I am glad we can have a who is best player discussion and hope we will have more to add to the list!
I think Otto achieved a level of play quicker than Jeff did - Jeff was a starter for 3 yrs, Otto really 1.5 I also think this experience combined with postseason success, along with Roy, really makes a difference - as in, I am not sure Otto would have had played as poorly in the post season with even more games under his belt+inside presence. But we won't know.
Roy also should not be overlooked - his improvement and the fact he stayed 4 years mirrored our success, Gtown and JTIII reclaimed big man u (at least in public eye) with his development. In many ways, if Roy doesn't put in the work, set the tone for everyone else and our program, those years could have looked very mediocre/different, and not led to GMonroe and others which at least continued building/recovering Gtown's prominence.

Wish Otto the best. Great Hoya during his time.
Otto vs. Jeff?
Jeff was the better talent, imo.
But, Otto did more with less this year. With Greg out and with the exception of Starks, Otto is pretty much all we had this year.
Then again, Jeff carried the program from the bottom and took it to heights the program has yet to achieve since he left. Jeff was the leader in changing the culture around here.
I gotta give the edge to Jeff overall, but Otto's sophomore season alone makes a pretty strong case.

Any comparison like this is tough, and there are arguments to be made for/against any position. While this comparison is easier than some historic ones, it's still tough to compare them. How do you judge who was the better Hoya or player? If you judge on post-season success alone, then you automatically pick Jeff. If you choose it from an "MVP" type of role, then maybe Otto, since he essentially carried the team without any other NBA talent on the roster. But Jeff Green was great, too, so it's really tough to make a comparison.
The bottom line is that Roy Hibbert, Jeff Green, and Otto Porter (I would throw Greg Monroe in there too - if not for the fact that he played with very good scorers in Freeman and Wright, his individual statistics would have probably been at Porter's level, if not higher) are great Hoyas, and I would be thrilled to have any similar player on a future roster.

Like I said before, this guy had a concussion and numerous injuries during the season, if you was his family and in his shoes...What advice would you give and What would you do?

Outstanding day for Otto and his family! I wish Otto nothing but the best of luck and achievement in the NBA. He will always be remembered fondly as a great Hoya both on and off the court. One more example for all future recruits to see Georgetown produces NBA-ready players and young men with great character.

Good luck to OP in the NBA!!!!!!!! Otto had to go. It was what's best for Otto and Gtown. As good as the '07 team was, they were one missed called from being knocked out in the 2nd rd. The '06 team was one lucky shot from the elite 8. My point is no matter how loaded our team would have been we could have easily lost in the 1st or 2nd rd next year. I think Gtown does better when seeded in the 6-9 range. Lower expectations and also better matchups.................

Great kid and great player - from the first days in China to his appearance at the Naismith awards in Atlanta to his press appearance today.
Quote today?
"The toughest part was knowing you're going to leave a great place like this," Porter said Monday at a news conference on campus alongside Hoyas coach John Thompson III. "I love this place."

Completely selfishly, I wish he had stayed. Being objective, he had to go. In the end, I'm extremely thankful that we had a kid of his class, grace and humility not only come to our university at all and be a basketball player there to boot but also for him being so successful that he is able to leave 2 years early and potentially be a top 5 pick and show the world what kind of organization JT3 and Georgetown run.

I am going to miss Otto in a Georgetown jersey. I wish him the best of luck in the NBA; I guess there will be another team to root for besides the Celtics, Pacers, and Pistons. I missed my chance to meet him, when I was on campus in Oct. and he was walking out of McD. Maybe in Las Vegas in the summer league!

Not sure if this was covered in the press conference, but Otto will finish his classes this semester while preparing for the draft.

Congratulations to Otto and I wish him the very best. He represented his family and the program as well as a young person could and I pray he continues on that path.
Being a Hoya fan he will be missed, but being a Washington Wizards fan I can only hope that we have a chance to keep him in DC @ the Verizon center, one can only hope.
A GREAT HOYA!
