great win. we could not have asked for a better performance after the nova loss. great coaching by III. i want to credit hopkins for being more aggressive today on both ends than he's been all year. when markel & DSR play that well this team is almost impossible to beat. this season will always be special no matter how the season ends. great job by III all year.

So very proud of our Hoyas. 2013 Big East Regular Season Champions. Even though we have to share it, this might be the most amazing run to a conference since the 1987 regular season. I was in South Bend the night our season turned around after the meltdown in South Florida. I could never dreamed it would end 14-4 with a conference title. We Are Georgetown!

What was special about Starks' 2-point jumper to make it 54-35? It was the only second half basket the Hoyas made for which no assist was awarded. For the game, 21 made field goals and 18 assists. Otto had 7 and Markel and DSR 5 each.
Another key from the box score: only 2 turnovers on ~28 possessions in the second half after 7 in the first half.

When Porter headed to the sideline in the final minute, he and Thompson III hugged.
Afterward, Boeheim said he thinks Porter should be the No. 1 overall pick in the next NBA draft.
"Normally people in this league start saying stuff like that when they want your best player to leave," Thompson III said with a smile. "Since they're leaving, I don't know why he's doing it now. But I agree with him."

Markel will be a stud next year! Well even more so then now I should say! I love Otto and I "expect" us to go far this year but next year will be awesome!

I just LOVED Trawick in the closing minute. He had a little well-deserved fun. A 3 from the corner and then a driving, in-your-face dunk (the Trawick version of Air Bowen), plus two foul shots. Sometimes, he gets forgotten during the Porter, Starks and Smith-Rivera show. But he is such a solid ballplayer, a great defender too. Imagine, he's a 6'5" guard!

Unfortunately, part of what it takes to build a consistent national powerhouse is not only attracting players like Porter, but having them leave early. Hard to come up with any possible justification for Otto to stay another year and risk an injury like Noel's. The next Porter cannot arrive until this one departs.

he has to get and stay academically eligible first. at this point that IS a big question. sure hope he has made positive progress toward his academic issues.

The debate about wheter GW is coming back this year is now over with...it is just a matter of if he will be back next year. Some people here, will try to belittle you if you are wrong on a subject, but get quiet if you are right on a subject.

I couldn't resist posting this on FB, where a couple of friends are Cuse fans:
WASHINGTON, DC – March 9, 2013 – The game wasn’t even as close as the 22-point margin of victory, as the basketball Hoyas of Georgetown University crushed arch-rival Syracuse before the largest crowd ever to attend a sports event at the Verizon Center. Because Syracuse has chosen to run away from the storied history of the Big East Conference, which it, Georgetown, and several other east coast basketball powerhouses co-founded nearly four decades ago, the rivalry between the two schools, at least as to playing conference games on their home courts, “is now officially closed.”
Georgetown was led by a ferocious defense and the sharpshooting of junior guard Markel Starks and freshman D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera. The Orange paid the price for focusing its defense on Georgetown star and player of the year candidate Otto Porter, who nonetheless scored ten points, pulled down nine rebounds, and dished out seven assists without committing a turnover.
The Orange were led by no one in particular, but prior to the game, two Syracuse players made a point of trash-talking through the media, something not usually tolerated by college basketball coaches. After the Hoyas upset the Orange on Syracuse’s home court last month behind a 33-point, career-defining performance by Porter, Michael Carter-Williams said of Georgetown, “We’re better than they are. We’ve always been better than them.” His similarly classy teammate, James Southerland, tweeted after the upset that “we will CRUSH Georgetown in the Verizon Center – Payback’s a BITCH, baby!”
Georgetown’s players let their basketball do the talking, and their victory today - which secured the Big East regular season championship for the third time since John Thompson III became coach - was never in doubt. The game was attended by over 20,000, including hoops legends Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning, former Hoya standouts Jason Clark and Michael Graham, legendary Georgetown ex-coach John Thompson, Jr., and delirious fans mapei and Ms. mapei.

The developments of dsr and trawick have been almost as important as the play of porter. You can see cuse just don't have the guard play like we do.
If we ever had a solid number five a la Monroe or sims we would be national champions this year. That's why I hope porter comes back with smith coming in...

Bitttersweet win (ok, how can you call a win over the cuse bitter..), if this was indeed Otto's last home game. That makes me sad.
