There could be a third GU-Syracuse meeting this season in the BET semis.

Even Amtrak was for us today: When the Amtrak train pulled into Union Station on Saturday morning, the conductor took to the PA system to announce the train's arrival and finished with "Go Hoyas," earning a chorus of boos from Syracuse fans aboard.
How great!!!

Why is it that this huge win warrants only 18 pages in the thread while the loss to Villanova had 38 pages? If we could only get about 200 more posts from This Just In....

I love Nate, but man is his jumpshot toast. He has zero confidence. We all know he can make it, and if he could start doing so this team would be ridiculous. Agree completely. Nate is two thirds of a complete player. He plays with heart and head but just cannot pull that trigger. Today he missed twice at the beginning and then completely backed off. Would rather he develop more of a shooter's mentality and at least try to score from 10 feet out. And the thing is, he had a nice drive to the basket in the Nova game....something I NEVER see him do. Wish he would at least do that if he doesn't want to take a jumper.

I couldn't resist posting this on FB, where a couple of friends are Cuse fans: WASHINGTON, DC – March 9, 2013 – The game wasn’t even as close as the 22-point margin of victory, as the basketball Hoyas of Georgetown University crushed arch-rival Syracuse before the largest crowd ever to attend a sports event at the Verizon Center. Because Syracuse has chosen to run away from the storied history of the Big East Conference, which it, Georgetown, and several other east coast basketball powerhouses co-founded nearly four decades ago, the rivalry between the two schools, at least as to playing conference games on their home courts, “is now officially closed.” Georgetown was led by a ferocious defense and the sharpshooting of junior guard Markel Starks and freshman D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera. The Orange paid the price for focusing its defense on Georgetown star and player of the year candidate Otto Porter, who nonetheless scored ten points, pulled down nine rebounds, and dished out seven assists without committing a turnover. The Orange were led by no one in particular, but prior to the game, two Syracuse players made a point of trash-talking through the media, something not usually tolerated by college basketball coaches. After the Hoyas upset the Orange on Syracuse’s home court last month behind a 33-point, career-defining performance by Porter, Michael Carter-Williams said of Georgetown, “We’re better than they are. We’ve always been better than them.” His similarly classy teammate, James Southerland, tweeted after the upset that “we will CRUSH Georgetown in the Verizon Center – Payback’s a BITCH, baby!” Georgetown’s players let their basketball do the talking, and their victory today - which secured the Big East regular season championship for the third time since John Thompson III became coach - was never in doubt. The game was attended by over 20,000, including hoops legends Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning, former Hoya standouts Jason Clark and Michael Graham, legendary Georgetown ex-coach John Thompson, Jr., and delirious fans mapei and Ms. mapei. What was the original source? the Albany Run-on Sentence and Bad Grammar Times & Review?

And I think lots of posters were at the game, and therefore drunk all day afterwards basking in the glow of victory. Great win, but lots more work to be done.

Because the bulk of the would-be game thread contributors to this site were probably at the game instead of at home posting comments. That would explain why the Casual Hoya site also had such a relatively short game thread for its site too. It's kinda cool when you think about it while at the same time a sober reminder how small the Hoya fanbase is.

ESPN just did a 10 minute spread on NCAA basketball and didn't include the game - I think we have to consider the possibility that it didn't really happen?

I am still on cloud nine very happy over the Hoyas totally crushing the cuse. That was a game that will always stick out in the Gtown/cuse rivialy b/c of the low point total of the cuse and the fantastic defense by the hoyas.

Bitttersweet win (ok, how can you call a win over the cuse bitter..), if this was indeed Otto's last home game. That makes me sad. I hope Porter will think about what we have here with this team. This team is only starting to show just how good they will be in the next few years BUT the whole gang needs to stay in order for that to happen. We could see greatness with this team Im serious.

I'm okay with Otto leaving as long as Greg W suits up in his place next season. If J Smith lives up to his potential and if Domingo, Trawick or Bowen show improvement this team can be even better next season, and that's with Otto gone.

The wheels seem to have come off the Syracuse season - their were several second half possessions that consisted of Orange players dribbling around in circles for 10-15 seconds at a time, others with quick and ill advised shots.
They face a likely match up with Pitt in the quarterfinals, and the way they are playing now I can't see them winning.
All that said - if there is a Syracuse-Georgetown match up on Friday night at the Garden at the Big East, the place will be bananas. It will be a quick run up - one day turnaround for the hype - but based on all the nostalgia about the BET already ginning up in the NY papers, the results of that sort of game would dwarf the regular season.
In that sense, this rivalry is by no means over. It's not over "as we know it" until they officially miss each other - or play each other- this weekend.
