Hey, need a little help from the group. I live in Omaha, NE. I have been a Hoya fan since the early 80's. I have seen Georgetown play several times on the road but never at home. My wife surprised me for Valentine's Day with tickets to the Syracuse game in D.C. It will be my first trip to a home game. I need some suggestions for places to eat, stay, or have a drink to celebrate the win or drown my sorrows if we lose. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

You can celebrate pre and post game at Clyde's. It is right next door to Verizon. there will be a lot of Hoyas there.
Have a great time and, BTW, what an awesome woman you married!

Not trying to be negative Cheer 48, hopefully I can be a good luck charm. Last game I saw in person was the OT win against Missouri in KC. I was the only Gtown fan amongst a sea of Tigers. Chris Wright shook my hand after the game. The fans told me to shut up several times during the game but I didn't care. Love the Hoyas and yes, my wife is awesome.

That is awesome to hear Omaha! Hope you have a great time and it coincides with a big gtown W. Verizon is next to a bunch of bars and restaurants any of which are good places to go. I'm sure there will be more info on actual meeting places for events etc closer to the time.

Great gift, truly great that your first home game will be our second of three wins this season over the SUckers.
If your a beer man, RDF has a great selection of drafts and food. It is just off the NW corner of the arena next to a Irish bar called Fado.

The Phone Booth is near the DC convention center, so there are plenty of hotels within walking distance. Also plenty of hotels in the Rosslyn area if you want to be near Georgetown and don't want to pay Georgetown prices. Direct booking through the hotels or Hotwire/Priceline usually works well. Aside from Clyde's, there are a number of great places to eat close by. A Yelp or Urbanspoon search for the area will turn up some. PM me if you'd like more specific suggestions.

It's worth taking a trip up to campus too. It's a ways from the Verizon Center, but you can Metro or cab over there and walk around M Street and Wisconsin (major shopping destination...buy something nice for you wife!) and check out campus. You have to stop in to the Tombs (iconic Georgetown bar) for a drink). And you can stroll bu McDonough and check out the lobby (it's open most of the time, I think). All the trophies and great photos are in there. Don't try to go on the practice court - Pops patrols that area 24/7 and he WILL take you out.

Clyde's is cool and it's right next door to Verizon. I prefer Redline, a sports bar across the street from Verizon on G Street. Great wings and some tables have taps.
The Grand Slam sports bar is cool as well and is located inside the Grand Hyatt hotel on H Street.

I suggest the Grand Hyatt which is 4-5 blocks away from Verizon. It is undergoing renovation - which is a non-issue on a weekend - and you can generally get a very nice weekend room for $110 or so a night. If you have Triple A they will throw in a great breakfast buffet.

For the last couple of home games against Syracuse, Clyde's had game watch for Syracuse fans. Of course, they filled the place. I made the mistake of trying to meet with some of my friends (Generation Floyd) for breakfast there a couple of years ago. We left immediately and felt as though we were exiled in our own territory. There actually are so many places around the Verizon Center. It depends on what type of drinks and atmosphere you want.

No Hoya fan's trip proverbial trip to Mecca is complete without an outing to the Tombs just off campus.
Have fun on your trip.

I too would suggest Tombs and the McDonough Gym lobby if you are able to make it to campus/Georgetown. Have fun!

But keep in mind, The Tombs is far away from the Verizon Center. While clearly it is a must see location for your trip, it would not be a good pre- or post game option.

To eat near Verizon Center, try Zaytinya or Matchbox.
