To eat near Verizon Center, try Zaytinya or Matchbox. I second the nomination of Matchbox. Place is terrific. But as some have said, you really can't go wrong. Inevitably there will be a Cuse game watch somewhere near the Verizon, so try to find out where beforehand and avoid it. But there are just an absurd amount of bars/restaurants around the arena so you should have no trouble finding something. And I second the notion that if you're making the trip all the way to DC, you really should take in the campus, McDonough, and the surrounding area as well. Though I've always thought Tombs was a bit overrated.

Yes, the Tombs should be your first priority; I saw RFK outside the Tombs when I was a student in the early '60s. You can even stay at the hotel on the GU campus and get a lay of the land. PM me if you want more details. I stayed there in Oct, and it is a short walk to McD.

That's the full experience as far as that goes. For the full undergrad experience, get a group of people together and put the Tombs bill on your parents' credit card and proceed to collect cash from those on your tab. I still hear about the few times I did that from my folks every now and then. Good times. It's been a long time for me but the burgers were always solid. And, while he's long gone, John Brisette was the best bartender in the history of bartenders.

Georgetown Harbor is also worth checking out for dinner if things are still somewhat the same. You also can't beat breakfast or brunch and a walk around Old Town, Alexandria.

Is the Irish Times still around? Always had fun there. Tiber Creek? Had my first yard there. My first two actually. Of course the girl I went with had three. Story of my life.
