Bowen plays several inches taller than his height. Once he saw playing time he really shows off his hops. Unfortunately, he does not have the reliable outside shot yet. Needs to spend some time working on his shot this summer.

Anyone know how many freshman have scored 30+ points in a game? Michael Jackson dropped 31 in his freshman year introduction to the good folk in the Carrier Dome.

I took a picture during the game and counted--there were about 50. Granted, more came later in the game, but 5 minutes into the game, we had about 3 rows filled in the student section syracusefan.com/threads/this-crowd-is-pathetic.45152/I can hope/believe our students were busy with studies and other good works.

Anyone know how many freshman have scored 30+ points in a game? ESPN just said only Hoya Freshman to score 30+ points: Victor Page and Allen Iverson. but it's ESPN so who knows if that's true.

At the half of Kansas-OK State, they showed our highlights and said that DSR is one of 3 Hoya freshman to score 30. Unless my ears are deceiving me, Fran Fraschilla said the other 2 were Allen Iverson and the late Victor Page. Victor's had a rough time, but I believe he's still with us, right?

Just did a quick read-through of the Pittsburg game thread (what can I say, I'm a masochist. It made me kind of sad b/c I had blocked most of it out).
But man. The people that posted in that thread need to re-read it and hopefully will gain a little perspective. The Depaul game may not be any more indicative of what type of team we are than the Pittsburg game was, but it's pretty telling that a lot of those guys aren't posting anymore, not just RDF.
Comments like "Nate wouldn't get more than 10 minutes on a good team" and how soft Otto is and how he can't create his own shot, Starks isn't a BE guard, and of course what a horrible game manager/recruiter/stubborn horse's ass III is.
Let's see how this season winds up, but if this team continues to play this well, the nonsense posters who flip out over one or two games should be forced to issue a public mea culpa before posting again.

DSR started the second half over Hopkins. That's a nice little move by JTIII. Hopkins was fine in the first half, but things were clearly working with the three guards, so why wait until the first break. Smart.

Jabril had a nicely efficient offensive game as well. It'll get lost in DSR's explosion, but after a few games of shots not dropping, he got them to drop.

While Depaul is obviously a disaster on the defensive end, our guys sure made them pay for it tonight. Fantastic performance, especially with Otto on the bench for the second half. DSR will get all the love, but like SF just said, Jabril had a great offensive game as well. And for all the talk in the Markel thread about him not being a true point, I think he showed tonight he certainly has PG skills. With other guys scoring, he did a nice job of keeping the hot hands hot and racking up assists. And how about Lubick running the floor all night? Love to see that kid's hard work paying off finally.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but DePaul actually had a pretty good offensive game against us, and we could learn from how they moved the ball to beat our defense down the floor. I could see some teams trying to do that, including Syracuse. Fortunately, DePaul had the worse defense I could remember seeing this year, and that includes Longwood. If Purnell can find a defense coaching asst, they could be a legit team for the new conference.

ESPN be damned, but Michael Jackson did, in fact, score 31 points versus Syracuse in his freshman year game in the Carrier Dome. I saw it with my own four eyes! I can imagine the Newhouse School graduates have buried the thought of that scorching, but it did happen. Michael more than deserves the recognition. DFW's Hoya Basketball History confirms it.
No three point shot then, either.

They certainly know how to get up and down the floor and get easy buckets. If he can get that press to run like it did at Clemson, they could certainly get out of the basement and be a relevant team again.

I seem to remember a few 30 point games with Austin, but maybe he was not a frosh at the time.

Looks like those were both in the fall of '82, so his sophomore season. I assume Warren Buehler and Jim Barry were both sophomores, eligibility-wise, who later took redshirt seasons when they had 30-point games their first season of varsity basketball.
