Though I have not had any personal interactions with GEN Petraeus, I've had enough with Paula Broadwell that the only emotion I feel is sadness. Sadness for her, her husband, and most of all her two young children. Moreover, I'm afraid that every ambitious female Army officer will now be looked at through the prism of this affair. Mentorship, which can be so vital for young officers, will be badly stilted when it comes to senior men and subordinate women. The stereotype of women "sleeping their way to the top" will gain even more credence.

I heard the rumors months ago and dismissed them. All of it just makes me sad.

Good to know that this fact along with the Iranian attack on our drone was kept from the public untol post election. We children could not have handled such news.

FBI probe of Petraeus triggered by e-mail threats from biographer

The collapse of the impressive career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman with whom he was having an affair sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with know­ledge of the episode.

The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said.

The identity of the woman who received the e-mails was not disclosed, and the nature of her relationship with Petraeus is unknown. The officials said the woman did not work at the CIA and was not Petraeus’s wife, Holly. The law enforcement officials said the e-mails indicated that Broadwell perceived the other woman as a threat to her relationship with Petraeus.

A couple interesting details I've seen in the press:

1. DP & PB used a shared gmail account to draft messages to each other making it a bit harder to track (drafted messages were left in que and never sent). Clever and a page out of many AQ operatives.

2. It's curious how the FBI continued to investigate once a couple 'harassing' emails showed no security threats when discussing the CIA chief. The Florida FBI agent is about to get dragged through the mud I'd bet. CIA v FBI rd ##?

The Florida agent is one of the worst actors in the whole story so far :

Ms. Kelley, a volunteer with wounded veterans and military families, brought her complaint to a rank-and-file agent she knew from a previous encounter with the F.B.I. office, the official also said. That agent, who had previously pursued a friendship with Ms. Kelley and had earlier sent her shirtless photographs of himself, was “just a conduit” for the complaint, he said. He had no training in cybercrime, was not part of the cyber squad handling the case and was never assigned to the investigation.

But the agent, who was not identified, continued to “nose around” about the case, and eventually his superiors “told him to stay the hell away from it, and he was not invited to briefings,” the official said. The Wall Street Journal first reported on Monday night that the agent had been barred from the case.

Later, the agent became convinced — incorrectly, the official said — that the case had stalled. Because of his “worldview,” as the official put it, he suspected a politically motivated cover-up to protect President Obama. The agent alerted Eric Cantor, the House majority leader, who called the F.B.I. director, Robert S. Mueller III, on Oct. 31 to tell him of the agent’s concerns.

So, if we're reading this right, the Florida agent was motivated by hots for Jill Kelley and the idea that he could get Obama in trouble.

I was referring to my MA program specifically, but moving out to the SFS as a whole... well, the Big Dog's stock is pretty high these days. Gave the best speech of the national conventions, got the first "thank you" call from the re-elected president, and his wife has to be considered the party's front-runner for 2016.

2. Gloria Arroyo (she didn't graduate technically, she left after 2 yrs) - frmer Philippine President (her getting off on just stealing from the lottery is just a blip unfortunately)
3. Alfredo Cristani - frmer El Salvador President (initially connected to the 1989 massacre that left several Jesuit priests dead)
