Why do people assume JTIII wanted Kirby to stay? Isn't it possible he was told to look around? Tyler Adams was someone he delivered when taking the job and Otto had a family connection. Isn't it possible without those preexisting relationships he could not meet JTIIIs expectations? And isn't it possible that we simply wanted to make room for Broadus so Kirby had to go? LSU is not a step up and barely a step sideways.

If we needed to make room for Broadus, there are a few other assistants on the bench that I'm sure have done a lot less in terms of recruiting that could've been shown the door. Why would you get rid of the guy who recruits seem to have a great relationship and are constantly talking about? At LSU he'll have a much easier time selling recruits from the south, much better facilities, much bigger budget, and outside of Kentucky, no other teams were really gonna blow anyone away so the battle to relevancy isn't gonna as tough as in another more difficult conference.

I'm just wondering if JTIII had to choose between Kirby and Broadus. Hard to have two "lead" recruiters or assistants. Would we have rather kept Kirby or Broadus? I'm guessing Broadus if we couldn't have both.

Robert Kirby is a good guy, and we wish him well.

The only way you would have to make that choice would be if you couldnt afford both of their salaries i would think. But i dont think that there was as choice like that made. I think Kirby saw LSU as a better job, which for him it probably is.

Have to wonder if he is an assistant in waiting, if someone in athletic department sold him the job as a if you do well and the new head coach can't step up to the big leagues you get your shot in a year or two. Don't know anything, just seems thats one of the paths to the HC job. Hopefully with the new facility plans not one anyone at Georgetown needs to think about.

its pretty obvious that kirbys southern connects are better served down south. Not shocked by this but certainly not happy. There's really no speculation needed past that

Kirby's departure is a big loss for our Hoyas. No question this guy had GU in touch with more top recruits than we've seen in years and was far and away our most effective recruiter. Based on some quotes from the team, he was an effective coach too.
Why did he leave? I have no idea, but I would guess he thought his future looked better at LSU, the SEC and the South. Too bad. Sad to see him go. I wish him the best and hope he gets that HC shots before too long.

GUHoyas still lists Robert Kirby as an assistant, so nothing is final as yet. Stay tuned.
