Lateral move, at best. I hope they're paying him more, at least.

I'm stunned Brennan/Hunter weren't considered for LSU job-they are both such great assets on the recruiting trail. Quit messing around and send those two their walking papers and get some damn people who kids/parents like and will listen to. Idea should've been to get Broadus on trail WITH Kirby and instead it's the 1 man assistant show with 2 inept recruiters out on road wasting Georgetown's time/money. Hell--just keep them home and have them play chess and send Pops out--he lands as many/more players then either of those two. Huge blow to the program.

Kirby's roots are in the southeast. Not surprised with his decision. Jones just hired two of his top assistants at North Texas.

Happened a couple of years quicker than I hoped but at least I'm happy for Kirby. It is a blow. But it is not one that can't be overcome. I mean there was only one big time recruit that the Hoyas got with Kirby in tow anyway. Broadus comes back as a full time coach. III also proves that once again that working under him leads to head coaching opportunities. That should help him go out and bring in another good assistant....once another spot opens up....hopefully soon.
I'm glad Kirby was able to get Otto for Gtown before getting a job offer.

Johnny Jones of North Texas is the new LSU coach. Kirby took a lateral move--no doubt more money but it's lateral. Broadus will be fine-but as was case with Kirby--the 2 other spots that are active on road are Mid to Low Major caliber assistants and need to be replaced.

I'm not worried in the least bit about what this might say about the state of the program. Kirby is one hell of a recruiter and people like him are highly valued. He is more than likely getting a pay raise and is going back to a region where his connections will serve him better. Like I said, it hurts but in no way should any of us be surprised.
Having said that, this presents an opportunity for JTIII to do a hard evaluation of his staff. Broadus taking over for Kirby is fine, but there are a lot of guys out there on the rise at mid-majors that could recruit circles around Brennan and Hunter who would jump at the chance to come here and I would do back flips if they came aboard.
This sucks, no question, but we're playing from behind right now and I hope JTIII seizes this opportunity and makes the most of it.

Wow....really horrible news for recruiting the next year. We are in big trouble.
III needs a couple home run hires with guys who can recruit. Geez. I'm sick to my stomach about this one. Horrible timing for us

Assistant coaches come and go. Fact of basketball life. I have confidence that III will adjust/replace well.

Bad news on Devonta recruitment. Maybe a package deal for Devonta and Kirby to both go to LSU.

It would seem the prudent course of action will be to try and lock down Hayes, re-group on recruiting front, and then work to lock down Hart and a PG from 2013.
If we do this, we avoid disaster. Not the optimal haul we would have liked given all the names we were involved with the last few years, but definitely solid and will keep us afloat/relevant until the IAC is a reality and we can compete a bit more on the facilities angle.

Honestly I was in pure panic when I first heard the news...but when you think about it hile Kirby got us in the mix with a lot of players we otherwise wouldn't have, didn't really seal the deal or bring us more than we had before he arrived. Excited to see KB focus on the northeast, mid-atlantic again.

Can you really blame Kirby? I can't. He has unlimited resources at LSU and is in his home region. And, the GU program is becoming harder to sell by the day with the BE collapse/expansion. At the very least, the conference is an unknown in terms of basketball quality and sustainability.
The return of Broadus to the trail is important, but we need to hire another recruiting assistant, not a cyborg. And, we need to be prepared in the event Broadus's rehabilitation at GU is a success and another program gives him a HC spot.
