Usually start these in Summer but with new recruiting rules--evaluation period for Spring starts this upcoming weekend and continues with following weekend. I'll be at the Nike EYBL event in Minneapolis this weekend and will post recaps. If there are any players you would like to have me specifically report on--let me know. Here are some names that are on Hoya radar or have been in past:
Mac Irvin Fire--Jabari Parker, Jahlil Okafor
Bluff City Legends-Team Penny---Nick King, Jonathan Williams III, Markel Crawford
Boo Williams---Troy Williams, Devon Hall, Allerick Freeman, Anthony Barber
Meanstreets--Paul White
BABC--Jaylen Brantley, Wayne Selden
Baltimore Elite--Jamal Artis, Kameron Williams
Alabama Challenge--Jimmie Taylor
CIA Bounce--Andrew Wiggins, Duane Notice, Tyler Ennish, Tan Bhuellar
Team Final--Austin Colbert, Davon Reed, Rondae Jefferson, Jaren Sina
TakeOver--Josh Hart, BJ Anya, Will Ferguson,
CP3--Greg McClinton, Theo Pinson,
Texas Titans--Julius Randle
Family--James Young
NY Lightning--Kuran Iverson
MetroHawks--Shane Rector--think he's going to play with them--not certain yet
Howard Pulley---Tyus Jones, Kyle Washington and Anders Broman (better shooter then Zierden kid who signed with Creighton)
Jackson Tigers--Not sure who is on their roster-but it's Mississippi and we know Hoyas recruit that team hard with Coach Kirby--Tyler Adams AAU team.
TN Travelers--Jalen Lindsay
Houston Hoops---City is loaded for next 3-4 years with star talent
GA Stars--always a talented group.
Southern Stampede--another GA entry
All Iowa Attack--keep an eye on Peter Jok-who was injured last year but was is a promising 6'7 forward/guard.
Oakland Soliders--likely the favorite for EYBL entering the AAU season--Aaron Gordon, Shaq Aaron, Stanley Johnson, Jabari Bird, Robinson Twins, etc...

believe he listed us in a recent interview but I doubt we get very far with him...
RDF would love to get your take on the Memphis cats we're on...especially III if he's really as high on us as some rumbling have alluded to...
Hart too

Parker wont' be a Hoya but he's listed them off/on and just throwing names out there. His opening game is against Nick King/Jonathan Williams III and that is some great talent on court for opening game of event.
Josh Hart opens against Theo Pinson's team in late session Friday night. They play same time as Andrew Wiggins though--and that is a must see-guy is best prospect in country--well North America since he's a Canadian.
Going to TakeOver/Boo Williams game on Sunday for certain.
Interested in seeing if Kuran Iverson has improved--he got rave reviews in an event 2 weeks ago after a crappy run of it last Spring/Summer.
Will recap what coaches are there, etc.....and always get good recruiting notes from these events/gossip about who is going where--even if it's early in process.
KG Hoya knocked it out of the park last Summer and will do so again next weekend, so gotta do my part!

Andrew Wiggins is a Canadian PG right? Think we still have a chance? I know we were joking earlier about Siva w/ control and a shot is Steve Nash, is this kid the second coming?
Thanks RDF (and others)

Thanks RDF (and others) Wiggins is the Canadian Kobe Bryant. 6'7 SF/SG who is a stud. He was best prospect at Nike Hoop Summit as a 17 year old. Just turned 17 and is currently a class of '14 guy but expect him to re-classify--along with Hoya target Noah Vonleh of Mass. who is also currently a class of '14 kid but rumors are could easily re-classify.

It will take some hard recruiting to get JWIII out of the southeast. Some say that Memphis (Big East) and Missouri (SEC) are at the top of his list..... King is all over the place.

Add Kennedy Meeks to list of players at event-he's coming with Team United. First game is against Boo Williams tomorrow night--on court right next to Nick King/Jonathan Williams III game against Mac Irvin Fire.

Day 1 of EYBL:
1. III and Kirby were there.
Games they were watching:
Mac Irvin Fire vs Bluff City Legends. (Jahili Okafor, Nick King, Jonathan Williams III, and '15 Keelon Lawson--talked to his dad at game)
Team United vs Boo Williams (III was mainly at Mac Irvin Game but made sure he got to baseline to see Meeks vs Boo)
Houston Hoops (III and Kirby) and that team is LOADED. Keith Frazier, Justin Jackson, Justise Winslow, Derrick Griffin, and Melvin Swift Jr (was in attendance but didn't suit up) vs St. Louis Eagles. All that was missing were JC Washington/Khadeem Lattin (but think they might play with Harrison Twins team on UA circuit--and Griffin moved from Twins team to Houston Hoops).
TakeOver vs CP3--led by my Dad's new best friend--Theo Pinson's Dad. LONG story but my Dad made it out to see some games and as I am walking to court he's texted me he's at--he's sitting and talking to a man like he's best friends and low and behold it's Theo Pinson's dad. Dad coming back out tomorrow night to sit with his "BFF" and I'm going to hang with Mr. Pinson tomorrow for his son's games. Very cool guy.
Josh Hart was solid-but not hitting shots. Keith Stevens Got tossed--which I predicted to Mr. Pinson would happen as we waited for game to get over and were watching Soldiers take on BABC in great game. He had right to be upset--CP3 had 6 guys on court with 2.5 seconds left and 3 pt lead. Game never finished and Stevens got tossed and just held up game. So they ended it--shame too because he was right.
Kirby checked out Jimmie Taylor, Dakari Johnson--who looks fantastic--really in great shape and legit 7'0 now---Dakari and his mom liked my Georgetown sweatshirt and I pointed out III/coach Kirby were in attendance when I accidently (seriously) bumped into him.
III roamed and checked out a little bit of CIA Bounce vs Team Final (Andrew Wiggins is unreal--WOW!) and Team Final had some kids Hoyas have been mentioned with---Davon Reed, Austin Colbert, and Rondae Jefferson (he's best of those 3 and hope Hoyas stay on him).
Coach Kirby checked out a bit of Jamel Artis/Kameron Williams game which was a low scoring nailbiter--won by Baltimore Elite.
Aside from that--pretty much stayed at certain games--but glad they were 2 deep at Houston Hoops game--that team's roster I'd take and call it a day. LOL Shooters, Athletic guys, tough aggressive defenders. Versatile players. Only lack a big--but they are great in open court.
Best player at opening night--Andrew Wiggins. Jabari Parker struggled with his jumper but came up with some nice plays late. Has college frame already--but Wiggins is quicker/more athletic and better all around player.
Disappointing player of night--Jahili Okafor/Jonathan Williams III. Now they played each other--and I see what III likes in Williams III (who is open to Georgetown as is Nick King--but they are nowhere near making decisions according to Keelon Lawson's dad--who said Georgetown has contacted them as well--he played with Nick King this year at Memphis East but will be going to play for his dad--a former UAB player who is going to coach Memphis Hamilton).
Okafor is trim and looks good--but struggled against athleticism of Memphis. Williams can't shoot and struggled to finish/was awful at line--if he made his Ft's they would've won the game. Not as tall as I expected to see either. Closer to 6'7-6-8 then 6'10.
Nick King was tough/he and Parker really battled/competed and neither were great-but they showed all kinds of skill. Roy Williams was front and center as were Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Kansas, Illinois, Arizona, etc.....
Syracuse (Boeheim/Autry) were there for Tyler Ennis of CIA Bounce and Autry checked out TakeOver/CP3 as well.
Got a LONG day tomorrow-so if you have questions--let me know and I'll answer them.

Nice recap RDF. Has Meeks trimmed down? How did Jimmie Taylor look? Are there any guards that are lookin at Hoyas? Meeks looked to have baby fat on him still--and didn't see his game--will see him and Taylor tomorrow-walked with Taylor to gym and he's legit 6'9--and nice kid. Shane Rector was watching-his team didn't play today--but they were in attendance and he talked up Hoyas as team he liked. Positive reactions from Dakari Johnson, Nick King/Williams III/Lawson-who is going to be one to watch 6'7 class of 15 and his dad said he's going to play him at PG. Jamel Artis played some point-and Kameron Williams was there and they liked Hoyas--or at least acknowledged the sweatshirt. LOL I'll have to call my dad tomorrow--guy chatted up half the damn gym and made friends with parents. ;D I'll ask Theo Pinson's dad about Raekwon Harney tomorrow.

Day 2 Report:
III and Coach Kirby there again. Saw them tracking Jimmie Taylor (best of '13 bigs by far that Hoyas are involved with--legit size and hard worker, more on him later), Memphis Team which played Oakland Soldiers--Kirby--III tracked TakeOver playing CIA Bounce, Kirby took my advice (just kidding) and is living with Houston Hoops Team as he should--that team is LOADED and today noticed that Khadeem Lattin was with them--didn't see him last night--but saw he was in box score for 4 min played--but he was there today and and Melvin Swift sat out again and they still rolled teams.
Then III/Kirby disappeared (guessing they went to see some prospects at other event in town--Hoyas have interest in a Twin Cities player named Rashad Vaughn) and it's about 20 minutes away. Good time to do that too-games weren't very good that they missed and no prospects Hoyas are really involved with played.
Saw them both return for CIA Bounce vs Memphis team and glad both guys got front row seat to the Andrew Wiggins show--where he threw down at least 6 dunks and 1 that had entire gym roar in approval on a lob where ball was behind him and then he cocked it, brought it down and back up one handed for a thrown down on 2 Memphis defenders. Just sick. When he wasn't doing that--he was torching guys for 3's, and just dominating. Guy is best player at this event and it's not even close--Jabari Parker included-and Parker is a good player--but Wiggins is different level.
I saw TakeOver play earlier so I left for last session of night where they played Meanstreets from Chicago but III/Kirby stayed for that.
Impressions from Day 2:
1. Andrew Wiggins is worth price of admission and is best player on one of top 2 teams.
2. Houston Hoops--said it last Summer and it's even more true now-recruit this entire team. There isn't one guy I wouldn't love to see a Hoya on this team. Winslow, Frazier, Jackson, Lattin, Griffin, Swift, Bridgewater is the Reggie Ragland figure of team--better basketball frame then Reggie (who those might not know is going to be an incoming OLB for Alabama next year but was a good basketball player too at 6'3-6'4). Just a fun team to watch and wish they would play CIA Bounce (Canadian Team) at the event-but some other lucky location gets that game.
3. Class of '13 bigs is weak at this event and it explains Bradley Hayes recruitment and push for more bigs in '12 overall. I liked Torren Jones who is from AZ but plays for CA Supreme coached by Miles Simon. He was tough/physical but skilled-but like most of these guys--nowhere near 6'9--more like a 6'7 player-but he was impressive.
4. PG position is not looking good for Hoyas with guys at EYBL. No positive feedback from players, their parents, etc....so going to have look combo route--and there isn't a lot of those types who list Hoyas or would be worth Hoyas offering.
5. Xavier Rathan Mayes is type Hoyas like--but with DSR--no need to get involved--although he's a great shooter--but taller then DSR and better shooter (at least seeing both in person he's shot it better then DSR did last year at events I attended) and kind of built like Andre Miller. Not a great athlete but smart player and good feel for game. Defensively-he's bad--but team is well coached and covers for each other to hide his/Tyler Ennis poor perimeter defense.
6. When I left gym, TakeOver and Boo Williams hadn't won a game yet. They have chance to get on board-and in Boo's case--might have-they played Indiana Spiece and score wasn't posted in arena yet--but TakeOver is better team. Troy Williams needs a lot of work on his game. Hoyas didn't miss anything there. He would've struggled fitting in with how they play offensively but defensively--he'd be a fine player. Nice kid too. Love Anthony Barber's speed but don't like how he/Allerick Freeman play together.
TakeOver--guards can't shoot. Jarius Lyles is only perimeter threat and teams guard him--the other guys can't shoot. Stanford Robinson was not playing with them from what I could tell-the program/uniform matches aren't always best--but didn't see him on court--but Josh Hart had a fine game today against CIA Bounce. Hit a few 3's and drove hard. Plays hard--but tweener. 6'3 more likely then 6'5 he's listed at. Ishmail Wainright showed up for them today and he did a nice job using muscle/toughness to defend Wiggins--but TakeOver also used a zone against them--and Rathan Mayes wasn't getting it to drop initially--hit some big shots late. Ennis helped them out-but their secondary players stepped up and made some big shots--Duane Notice and Kevin Zabo along with Troy Reid-Knight.
BJ Anya plays hard and protected rim well today--but offensively--has a long ways to go and again-typical '13 big--6'7-6'8 who play Center.
7. Jimmie Taylor-runs kind of funny-but not slow. Effort guy but legit size of 6'9. He and Devin Booker are only 2 guys on a bad Alabama Challenge team worth watching. They had 12 pts at half of the first game I watched--and almost fell asleep. He's one I hope Hoyas stay on. On other hand......
8. Don't want Jonathan Williams III. Seen him 3 times now-and he doesn't do anything. He has no offensive game. He's skilled-can dribble/pass, but he can't shoot, post, doesn't finish well, and isn't tough--ball is on floor-others dive and he stands and watches. Easily thrown off his game too. He no-showed the CIA Bounce game--just completely awol-although so did Nick King who was destroyed by Wiggins. I like King far more--but Williams III missed key FT's to cost Memphis yesterday against Mac Irvin Fire and today he didn't do a thing against Oakland Soldiers and CIA Bounce--2 of top 5 teams I've seen here. Just awol.
9. 2 kids from Memphis stood out--Keelon Lawson--it was later in game and it was decided but he hit a few shots-and made some great passes and glad Hoyas are on him--and according to his Dad--his little brother (who is bigger) is 14 and is as good/if not better prospect. Keelon is a legit 6'6'6'7 guard prospect for '15 class too. I liked his game a lot in the brief time he got today. Jajuan Johnson played well again--and Sam Craft is a guard on their team I like who is a '13.
10. Jalen Lindsay is going to be a nice player--very athletic but nice jumper. Class of '14 is LOADED with talented people. It's a good year for Hoyas to not have a lot of scholarships available. Good players exist at this EYBL-but all the people I've talked with agreed that younger guys were by far the more impressive prospects. For instance if Wiggins re-classifies, no way in hell Jabari Parker stays ahead of him. If Wiggins stays--you have likes of him, Justin Jackson, Justise Winslow, Jalen Lindsay, Wayne Selden, Theo Pinson, Jaquan Lyle, Shaq Aaron, Stanley Johnson, all at wing spots. Those guys have all stood out with positive play here.
11. Theo Pinson's dad is Jeff Green's Mom of Dads. LOL
12. Dakari Johnson's Mom is Tallest Mom I've met in my life and very outgoing/talkative. Also--no mistaking the Johnson family--Dakari and his Brother look alike and are years apart and both look just like mom.
13. James Young of The Family is next on agenda. Haven't seen him due to schedule conflicts-have to see Hoyas prospects for my feedback but he's tearing it up and has everyone talking. had 36 last night.
14. Kennedy Meeks games today were decent. He's a great kid. Very outgoing and good teammate. He really needs to change his body. Still too soft and loses stamina/has no lift in paint. He had some tough matchups today-and went against Dakari Johnson in 1st game of day and Julius Randle in last game of day. Kennedy scored more against Randle-who is a perimeter oriented guy despite being built like a college player already and bouncy/athletic. He lives on perimeter though. Meeks didn't do that badly. He's not fast/quick and he's got no lift-but he's smart and used some good angles and hit some face up shots--including a 3. Johnson gave him more problems due to size. Johnson being legit 7'0 while Meeks is 6'8. Meeks wants to pump fake everything in paint and fade away due to fact when he goes up-it gets swatted or is a crazy shot (think Hoya bigs in Cuse game this year) which comes nowhere near going in. Team was in both games and Meeks played a big part--has great hoops IQ/vision on court--and not sure if he'd ever be an above rim guy-but do think he'd be more confident/quicker in going up with less weight. UNC was at his last game against Randle while Hoyas weren't. They saw him against Johnson.
15. I have no idea who the hell plays for Baltimore Elite due to roster disaster. Kam Williams is only guy I could pick out and he was wearing Jamel Artis jersey--but stood out in a good way. Was a nice player. Must get? No. But good.
16. Top teams at this event--CIA Bounce/Houston Hoops, Oakland Soldiers, Each One Teach One (FL), and CA Supreme. Mac Irvin should've lost last night, did lose to BABC this morning and don't know their result as I left but pretty sure they won. Very overrated from hype they were getting--at least this weekend that is.
17. Will wait for tomorrow before giving my own all tournament team as I want to see James Young, Dmitri Goodson-heard he's struggled but want to see him for Texas Pro, but have a few pretty much set in stone--starting with MVP of this weekend Andrew Wiggins. ---Goodson "struggling makes sense"-he's not here. Got AAU'd by rosters again--but makes sense because I didn't think their big was him but word was he was struggling-he wasn't here, so no big deal.
Any questions--fire away--I know I'm leaving some stuff out and will cover it if you ask and probably on other boards where I'm recapping event too.
