Barkley is dead on. Fell in love with the jump shot. Again It isn't that simple. We haven't found anything open inside. It isn't just for lack of trying. The opening bucket was typical--we worked the shot clock completely and the best we got was a great little shot by Otto after Henry should have been called for double dribble. There have been no open back door passes, and we've had a really tough time cracking their perimeter defense. All of which was fine because our defense was awesome, but then they started getting every rebound and got some buckets that way and the game changed. Then we unraveled a bit with turnovers. I assume NC State gets the ball first. As always we really can't fall behind with as much as our offense is struggling. We need the defense to help us create some easy buckets, and figure out a way to penalize their aggressive guarding on the perimeter.

If i had paid money for a ticket expecting to see Georgetown on the floor and Sims isn't allowed to play, I would want the Broadway rule and my money back. They should have put notice about Valentine in every program

Unlike the Cincy meltdown this one occurred in the first half without our starting center and one of the most important parts of our offense.
We will be okay. I have faith we come out with focus and discipline and win this game!!!!

What Barkley didn't say was that GU was on its 3rd string center and couldn't get the ball inside. Yes.

I hate whining about the refs, but you shouldn't have to play 75 percent of the first half without your best player because of two ticky-tack foul calls. That's not sports. The NCAA Tournament is the only event where this happens. It's flipping maddening.

Barkley with a good point that Hoyas "fell in love with the jump shot" ... true, but ignores the fact that the refs took the Hoyas most reliable inside threat (Sims) off the court 6 minutes into the game. The officiating is awful but Sims took himself off the court with a really careless drive that you could see coming from a mile away.

We are susceptible to floppy teams. If you look at thos efirst ten minutes the strategy was clear. Their guys were falling all over the place looking to draw charges. They knew valentine was reffing. I hate it that foul calls don't get made when the floppers are tripping players after the no call

What's with all the crying about officials? NC State is more aggressive, they are tougher right now and Hoyas need to value the ball (a repeat theme for them for years now) and get up more shots. If anything--I'm happy they are only down 3 at the half--they deserve to be down about 10 the way they played.
Key swing in the momentum--ANOTHER offensive rebound for an opponent off 2 missed FT's--and it got them going--instead of a 7 pt lead and ball--you give them an easy putback and then a 3, and then team gets a turnover (Lane violation on Nate's FT didn't matter--did you see that attempt? YUCK) and another, and another and an extremely strange lineup on court together when offense is struggling.
That's bad news--good news--they have 20 minutes left to play better. Just want to see more aggressive team--get after it as a team and quit trying to look for perfect shot--get some shots up and get the ball up into the frontcourt quicker so they can get into their set quicker.

I will say one more time that in the game I was watching, we weren't having any luck getting good shots in the paint even when Henry was in the game. Maybe his absence allowed them to better contest our 3s, but we launched plenty of them before Sims went out. And besides, its been 3 out of 5 games now. Don't we have to assume Henry first half foul trouble is the new normal?

Wouldnt the game be better with the 6 foul rule in the College game. This would make the game less on the ref's and more on the players..

Look on the bright side. Hollis did not fall off the line on his 2 made free throws. Somebody must have gotten to him.

They're ahead because they've absolutely dominated us on their offensive glass at a time when our defense was otherwise terrific, and we've had absolutely no answers on offense other than hoping that our 3s go in. Maybe the former was affected by foul trouble, but the latter was true even when Henry was there. Unless we find a solution to getting some easy buckets inside, we're going to suffer long scoring droughts and that puts huge pressure on our defense. We're basically seeing the Cincinnati recipe. Eerily similar team. I don't think this team is at all similar to Cincinnati. We fell in love with the three because we are scared of picking up charges and getting denied inside. Plus they fell early and we stuck with it too long. Really I think we just got lazy and complacent the last five minutes and gave NC State too many easy looks. Slow down the pace in the second half, take care of the ball, rebound and play defense and we can win this game.

No points in the paint when Sims in ? He only played 25% of the first half.

Yep---and you can't turn your back when you are driving to the middle and not expect someone to be set to take a charge. Again-they got to line 14 times-but are shooting 50%-so Hoyas are lucky to be down 3. Good 20 minutes (value the ball, rebound, and defend) and moving onto St. Louis.

I just hope Henry doesn't come out overly aggressive to start the second half and pick up quick fouls again.

Watching the game in a virtually empty bar in Austin and a dude walks in and, of course, is an NC State fan. Please Hoyas, I need a win more than ever just so this dude will shut the hell up.

When your season is on the line, I think you put Sims back in with the two fouls rather than see your large lead disappear, as well as momentum. You either lose with your best players being on the court, or you lose with your best players on the bench. I'd rather the best be on the court. Have to agree with this. Henry needs to be in there and adjust his play. Danger now is that he forces things in the second half after sitting so long.
