Please fellas don't get it twisted how poorly we made SU look with SU being an average team. It really affects your shot when you have a 6'5", a 6'7", and two 6'8" guys contesting. Your arc is increased and speed of shot are quickened. L'Ville may beat SU because they are playing well but it will be a close game that SU will have a chance to win. As for Markel, he hasn't played well since the "concussion". I don't think that is an coincidence. Markel has moments of playing well but he can't sustain it for an entire game. I'm not expecting to see the L'Ville Markel again until next season. Basketball is a game of skill and confidence. Markel's J didn't look bad last night. A few rimmed out or were just a little long. Maybe he will have a game that will restore his confidence but don't count on it........... I, for one, never said that Syracuse was average. They're clearly a top 10 team. Just note, though, that every time they played somebody good, the game has been close. They have won all of those games (ND aside, without Melo), and that's to their credit, but if they had played some of us, Marquette and Florida on the road, I believe they would have lost some if not all of those games. I stand by my statement that they are overrated. Also, I should correct my statement about NC State being their best road win. They did beat Cincy on the road, and Cincy is clearly better than NC State.

I watch a replay of the game today and it is really enjoyable when the outcome is known and I am not a nervous wreck. It was particularily enjoyable because it was clear from the start and throughout that we were the better team. It wasn't as though we played over our heads and nearly pulled it off, the opposite was true: SU played over their heads due to Kris Joseph's hot hand, career high. In the Garden, we are 10 points better and getting better

I came away from the game as content as one can be following a loss to Syracuse. The game was a lot of fun to watch, even though it rendered me a nervous wreck.
That being said, I'm not certain we're ten points better than them at Verizon or MSG. We just haven't been consistent enough for me to get entirely behind that sentiment. If we come out firing on all cylinders on Sunday, and finish the season 5-1, then I'll start to believe the talk about being significant favorite over Syracuse in the BET. I believe that we are capable of rolling through our next four games, and maybe even our next six, but I'd like to see how we handle our next game before declaring that we're a lock to beat Syracuse in a hypothetical rematch.

If we had come out firing on all cylinders against Cuse, we easily would have won by ten. In the first half especially, we had consistent wide open looks for three, Markel and Hollis just couldn't hit early. We even got rebounds on some of these and went for them again, still to have no success. I still think we severely outplayed them, and if given a good/above average shooting night, we can beat them handily.

I think they should be ranked ahead of us, but I am not convinced that they beat Kansas on a neutral floor, and Marquette, Lville, ND or Gtown on the road, and if that is the case, how much different are they then us? That's the difference of scheduling. I think folks are high on them in some part because they have a high SOS, but I think that's deceptive, too. Instead of playing OOC teams that were ranked in the 200s at home, they played teams ranked in 100s. Meh. It's fine. They can be a #1 seed, it doesnt make much difference. I will say that they have 2 home and homes with Lville and UConn left. If they win 3 or 4 of those, they are deserving of a top ranking. We'll see.

Neither team played their best game. That said, I believe our guys have a much higher ceiling. There is no denying, however, that we looked like the better team. That's not to say we win a rematch. Only that we have no reason whatsoever to be worried about them. We can play with them and, I believe, have a better than 50/50 shot of beating them in a rematch on any floor.

My only grievance rankingswise is that it would be nice to have a chance to play in Boston this spring. All other things being equal, if cuse is a top 4 team, then they probably lock up the #1 seed in the East and we're likely to head elsewhere.

I just saw another angle on our last offensive possession, the angle the ref saw. And holy crap, that was a mugging on Jason. It wasn't just some swiping, Scoop grabbed and yanked Jason's arms not once but 2 or 3 times. It's amazing he held on to it as long as he did. And despite that, the ball still didn't go off of Jason. The lack of calls and the out of bounds call on that are truly disgusting to the point the refs should absolutely (and clearly won't) get fined. To top it off, the absolute zeal the ref had in making the call was just ridiculous. What I don't get is why Big East refs would want to help a traitor school. If anything, calls should go against them not for them. What a debacle.

I think FLHoya tweeted this, but I can't find the link, so this might be wrong, but two of the three refs were from the ACC, not the Big East (which also explains why Fab Melo falling down so often was effective)

Looks like the refs were Sean Corbin (ACC primarily I believe), Bob Donato (Big East mostly) and Joe Lindsay (splits time in ACC and Big East). Donato is the one that made this call oddly enough.

Speaking of the refs, the one that got under my skin was the one who twice made calls for stepping on the baseline by stopping play, walking to the spot, then slowly and dramatically kneeling and pointing at the ground. TV Teddy must have been smiling at his set watching that display of grandstanding.

I broke down on the way out to the lake place. By the time I finally got there it was about 11pm. Needless to say, I was already in a bad mood, and since I thought I had plenty of time, I never set the DVR. So I didn't get to see the game "live." Then when I saw that Cuse won in overtime, I certainly didn't feel any better. But without having seen the game, a tough loss on the road against a top 5 team, at least sounds like a moral victory. But dammit ... I HATE moral victories. Someone said a "moral victory is nothing but another term for a loss." But trying to be as objective as possible, at least on paper, it's a quality loss ... but dammit, it's Cuse!

I'm still mad about the cuse game...in no particular order
henry and hopkin's inability to finish at the rim Hollis disappearing act in the second half terrible 3 pt shooting Jason's last turnover officiating (i don't want to complain about it too much - but suffice it to say they got some homecooking) Melo's smile....why doesn't he just go to class.
Things to be happy about I'm trying to focus on..in no particular order redounding Otto clark's onions to get us close lubicks strong 7 mins (he couldnt get any more time when Hopkins was clearly gassed in the second half?) Hollis attempts in the first half (he didn't disapear until the second) Team defense (except the otto / greg loss of 1 one guy that could shoot on wednesday on the final 3 pter)

After watching the play a couple of times, I came to that conclusion. Once the game clock got down to about 5-6 seconds, Jardine just destroyed Jason.
