Don't be shocked if we end up 10th with Indiana passing us. They had the big game win over the weekend and anyone that watched the Prov game was not overly impressed.

Ohio St drops 5 spots with a loss to a ranked team. Big drop?? Making up for not having dropped in the ranking after their 1st loss. They are a 2 loss team now. I must admit, kinda strange being just two spots behind them right now.

Looking at Top Ten now, hard to believe we would ever finish the season higher (or in the coming weeks) advance higher than we are now. Big East is not something you run through - too deep.
That said, looking at the list of Coaches in the top ten, impressive company for JTIII. Also for Georgetown, considering where they were expected to be and our facilities, academic standards etc, and limited McDonald Americans - def props for everyone for getting us to be a top ten team. Missouri deserves recognition for where they are as well, given a new coach and one of their best players injured for the season. Dont know much about Baylor's head coach, but he obviously has a lot of talent and among the best facilities to work with.
Lets keep the ball rolling Hoyas. I have optimism since we have a lot of freshmen playing - hopefully their continued improvement will counter any lulls by Sims Clark and Thompson.

This is the 6th straight season the Hoyas have been ranked in the Top 10. The only other time the Hoyas were ranked in the Top 10 in six straight seasons was 1981-82 through 1986-87

So Fran Fraschilla took a look at the BE teams compared to their pre-season rankings / expectations. With such a lukewarm write-up on GU, I guess he is not sold yet. Article was from the 28th and it is an Insider one, so I am only posting excerpts: Re-evaluating the Big EastThe story so far: The Hoyas have looked like an upper-level Big East team from the start of the season... How the story will end: If Clark, Thompson and Sims maintain their level of play, the Hoyas could finish in the top five or six in the conference and head back to the NCAA tournament. They are better than most, including me, expected.

Not sure I view that write-up as lukewarm necessarily.
And TBird - great data point. Amazing statistic, really. Knowing the final outcome of the past 5 seasons should temper our expectations this season a bit, possibly even more so than after digesting the very poor Providence performance.
Two losses this week and the paper tiger/Hoya swoon discussions will be in full throttle.
We need to win one of these two to keep momentum and good vibes going.
Git 'er duhn. Tough week ahead.

Why would the past 5 seasons argue for tempering expectations? The past 3 seasons, maybe, but within the past 5 years, we've won two BE regular seasons, one BET and gone to the Final Four.

The questions about our guys are to be expected considering how we looked against Providence and Howard and what has become of Memphis. That said, this is a great group of Hoyas to root for and that has very real and possible upside. We have questions within our own fanbase but most of those questions are the type filled with hope. Will Whit and Porter develop their outside shot and open up the interior? Will Jabril continue to improve and have the confidence to finish in the paint? Will Hollis be the kind of player that can take over a game when needed? Will Nate continue to build his confidence on the offensive side of the ball? Most of the questions we have are about the very real possibility that we will only continue to get better.... And we've looked pretty darn good at times already. I'm excited about these guys. Do I think we're a top 10 team right now? No. But, for one, I'm not very smart. And, more importantly, I absolutely think we have the potential to be one come March. Get after it Hoyas! We can take Marquette. The Big East is wide open this year outside of (and it friggin pains me to say it) Syracuse. Thing is, if some of the questions I mentioned earlier end up having yes answers, it's not out of the question that we can take down the Orange too. Yes.... Hoya colored glasses. But I also happen to actually believe that. If I'm wrong, the worst thing I'm guilty of is being an optimistic homer. I can live with that.

I'm not sure why Syracuse is ranked so high right now. They beat Florida who are an okay team but that's basically it. The sleeping giant in the big east is UConn. By the end of the season they will be the true force and better than Cuse. Fab Melo is just too slow and uncoordinated to handle Andre Drummond. Then you have Oriachi, Olander and Smith as big man support. Both teams are tough but UConn will be scary. That's the game we are going to need Lubick and his 5 fouls because he's the only one with any bulk that can keep Drummond from backing down and slam dunking in the paint.

Temperation is the word - BUT at this point if we finish 5 or 6 in the BE I will be very disapponted. I don't see that happening now
