Nate has been disappointing relative to expectations, but he's playing 21 minutes a game and averaging 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He played 30 minutes combined against Alabama and Memphis. This "he's killing us and needs to play less" movement really doesn't make a ton of sense.

Lubick (35 pts) has scored more than Greg (27 pts) this year. Neither is particularly amazing at that scoring thing. I had a feeling right when I posted that I was actually wrong on that.

I think Memphis is somewhat better than their W-L record would suggest, and that they are due for a notable win. I also think it's hard to beat a decent team twice, especially since the first one was so close. I'm sure we're favored to win and should be, but I think the chances of getting it are probably 60-40.
I don't remotely think that it's a catastrophe if we lose. We might drop a few notches in the rankings but we should still be ranked and substantially overachieving compared to preseason expectations. The team will have an opportunity to prove how good they really are against a very tough conference schedule regardless of this game.
In the meantime, whether we win or lose tomorrow night will have far less to do with the contributions or failures of Nate and Greg than it will with whether two of Jason/Hollis/Henry can have big nights with the other one playing at least at an average level. If an Otto or Markel (or even Nate, on the boards and defense) can also break out, so much the better. But if at least two of our big three aren't playing at a high level, we'll be in trouble.

I am a little concerned with the comments by several players(dictated by JT3, I'm sure) that they need to slow the game down. Now, I know its true you cannot let Memphis have a track meet game, but I hope the Hoyas don't revert to a "Jon Wallace" type game of just walking every posssesion up the court The Hoyas should try to run with each defensive rebound, because they have the athletes to do it. They should try for the quick basket, then if it is not there , then and only then, should they slow it down and run their set offense.

From today's Examiner preview: Defensively, the task is still the same: managing the high-tempo set by the Tigers' dribble-drive offense, which is spearheaded by the lightning quick backcourt duo of Will Barton and Joe Jackson. Thompson's game plan? "Turn and run back as fast as you can," (JT3) said. "You're not going to slow them down. That's what they do. They're very good at it. It's not a question of slowing them down. You just hopefully can be back there waiting on them."

Missed long jumpers turn into long rebounds turn into fast breaks for the other guys. I don't care if we shoot early or late in the shot clock, as long as it's a good shot. When Memphis has to run half court offense, they're pretty terrible.

Only an inexperieced coach would do that - give away your game plan. I like Nate. IMO our best team has been our 5 starters.

By slow the game down, I'm pretty sure they mean "Don't get beat for 5-6 early fast break buckets because we're slow getting back on D."

Only an inexperieced coach would do that - give away your game plan. It's so simple. Is JT3 the sort of man who would tell the press his own game plan, or would he say the opposite? Now, a clever man would tell the press his real game plan, because he would know that only a great fool would believe he was telling the truth. Josh Pastner is not a great fool, so he can clearly not believe the quote in the paper in front of him. But JT3 must know that Josh is not a great fool; he would have counted on it, so Josh can clearly not not-trust the quote in front of him.

Yes, all this, because my Leslie would never desert me.

And for good measure, why not throw in the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true. Actually, the vessel with the pestle holds the potion with the poison. The flagon with the dragon holds the brew that is true.
