not too surprised by this move. we all know the knicks are one of the worst run organizations in professional sports....why would we expect any different?

Think this is the end of the line for Pat and the NBA. We'll see.

Thinking about it some more, this is what really upsets me about this: The spot was the last on the roster. Whoever got it wasn't going to get much playing time. So, basically, this guy has to be 1) a good practice player and 2) a great team player in terms of attitude and leadership
As to #1) It sounds like this guy and Pat were essentially the same in terms of skill. Granted I don't know too much but in terms of numbers (so correct me if I'm missing anything), they seemed similar. Therefore, both would be about the same in terms of a practice player
But as to #2) THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF PAT. Pat is a great team player and has an unbelievably positive attitude. I mean, look at that Twitter post. It could have said something like "was cut. Oh well." But it didn't. It showed that he was a little upset, but was going to work harder and come back. Its that type of attitude that, if spread around the team, wins games and makes people work harder in practice. Isn't that what the Knicks want?!?
And while they shouldn't have kept him just because he was a Ewing, why not? A Knicks team with a Ewing is a lot more interesting than a Knicks team without one, even if he just sat on the bench.

Exactly! Hell, throw your fans a bone: "Hey, we suck mightily, but see this guy? Remember his dad? Yeah, we were good once." (This might come off like sarcasm. I'm serious, though. This would be one of the nicest things the Knicks have done for their fans in the last 10 years.)

Report: Allen Iverson agrees to deal - in Turkeysports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5725257I remember when Willie Mays didn't know it when to hang them up. Iverson is turning into the same kind of situation. I hope someone in his camp has looked out for his long term financial security at least.

Of course it might also remind Knick fans that their team has basically stunk ever since they unceremoniously showed his father the door; at the same time, keeping Jr. might have been the best way to break the Curse that I placed on the franchise when Patrick left.

If you are playing for 2 mil in Turkey, that other money isn't there anymore. 4 million is still a good amount of money for normal people. Hold onto it AI.

If he plays, clearly it won't be with the Knicks.

As to #1) It sounds like this guy and Pat were essentially the same in terms of skill. Granted I don't know too much but in terms of numbers (so correct me if I'm missing anything), they seemed similar. Therefore, both would be about the same in terms of a practice player Shawne Williams is definitely more of an NBA Talent than Pat. This is a guy that was highly regarded out of HS and College. He's certainly more gifted from a basketball standpoint. So if they hide behind the "we kept the better player" argument than that's understandable. What's bothersome is that this is the 15th spot on the team. Talent shouldn't have been the deciding factor here. It doesn't make any sense to give that spot to a guy on this third/fourth (I lost count) chance with a checkered past, over a guy who's looking to make a roster for the first time. You add the fact that he's the son of the franchise's most storied player and a great character guy, then that's where this doesn't make any sense. It's clear that Walsh was just looking out for his guy. (He drafted Williams in Indiana). I'm 100% sure Ryan Bowen and Brian Scalabrine didn't last so long because they were the most talented 15th men available for their respective teams. Just like Anthony Roberson two years ago, I guarantee Williams doesn't make it a full year which will make this look even dumber. This isn't necessarily Pat's last stand. He'll turn 27 heading into the 2011-2012 season (assuming there is one). He hasn't passed the point of no return yet. He can still improve. Look at a guy like Forbes who's 25/26 who was cut from teams the past few years and ended up making Denver's roster. Pat should use this as motivation. Play in the D-League or go overseas and get better. Come back next year. I just hope it's not with the Knicks.

That franchise will have the odor of Isaiah Thomas and Donnie Walsh all over it for a few more years, may turn out to be a blessing if Patrick can somehow get involved with some other team.
