Where does Austin rank among All-Time Hoyas?

Not enough wins for him to be ranked that high. In the JTIII era, I'd put him clearly behind Jeff, Roy, and Greg.

And I'm aware Greg has no more wins than Austin. But Greg was just a better player on the basis of the eye test in my opinion.

Somewhere after Ewing, Williams, Floyd, Mourning, Green, Smith, Iverson, Mutombo, and Hibbert.
I can't assess Duren or Shelton. Maybe in the same league as Sweetney, Wingate, and Monroe?

I guess it's inevitable, but it would sure be nice if the haters would leave him this one thread and take their crap to the innumerable other threads that they can post their negative opinions on all things Hoya.

I hope my post did not come across as hateful or negative. In responding to blueand gray, I listed 14 great Hoya players and essentially suggested that Austin could be in the top 10-15 players of all time. Congrats to Austin! The comeback against UConn in his junior year and this year's performance versus Villanova were two of the great Hoya performances I've seen in my 27 years as a Hoya fan.

Loyal, Nope, wasn't referring to your post. If anything, ranking him among those players (wherever you place him) is a heck of a compliment. I was just hoping that people would give him his due.

The fact that he is in the discussion of all-time hoyas pays great respect to Austin. Love the kid for breaking the Dematha hex. Love that he helped recruit Chris. Love that he always played hard. Love that he delivered some of the most memorable single game performences in hoya history. Love that he wore the blue and gray and represented the school the way he did.

In my view Austin ranks somewhere between 14 and 21 on the list of greatest Hoyas of the Thompson Era - i.e. the period from 1972-3 to today). Based on accomplishment and contribution to team performance, I would have him clearly behind Patrick, Reggie, Sleepy, Zo, A.I., Jeff, John Duren, Craig Shelton, Derrick Jackson, Roy, David Wingate, and Charles Smith and Mike Sweetney in a group with Dikembe, Greg, Othella, Michael Jackson, Merlin Wilson, Victor Page and Mark Tillmon.

I tend to agree with HoyaChris...with a couple of exceptions. Note sure I would say Austin is "clearly behind" Wingate...in my mind they are within a few spots of eachother...i think its debatable. Austin Freeman on that team probably does very well. Certainly not the defender Wingate was though. I'd also put Austin well ahead of Mark Tillmon.

Speaking of Sweets, does anybody really know how good this guy was? He was unguardable for the most part. Too bad his supporting cast was weak. Say he was on this team this year... phew!

Speaking of Sweets, does anybody really know how good this guy was? He was unguardable for the most part. Too bad his supporting cast was weak. Say he was on this team this year... phew! This is so true. If Sweets had been on one of JTIII's teams, we'd have seriously been playing for a Final 4 and beyond. Seriously, even our NIT JTIII year, he elevates that team to Sweet 16, maybe Final Four caliber. He was a legit All-American and top 10 pick. Dude was better than Jeff in college without a doubt in my mind personally, but he played on a worse team in our down years and completely bumbled his shot in the pros, so I don't think we remember how good he was....at least I know I forget sometimes. Getting back on track for Austin, that's awesome that he made Honorable Mention AA. Congrats Austin! Also, I agree with all that he's probably a mid-teens all-time player for the Hoyas. Tremendous career long accomplishment. Thanks for everything Austin!
