Important win, but let's not forget this was an 8-10 team we beat. I'll be at Verizon for the Johnnies game, lets just play better. True, but a 8-10 team that was missing their best player for most of that time. I'm pretty sure our record would be similar without freeman... Hazell hurt more than helped today. He took a lot of shots to get 17 points.

Did Freeman mean to foul? We didn't want them to shoot a three.

This would have been a great win circa 2003. Nobody better be happy about this. Try 1993.

A loss is the only way that could have gone any worse.
Beat SJU and my optimism might begin to come back. For now, I'm expecting an NIT trip. And I'm usually a glass half-full kind of guy.

At this point, I'll just take the W's and hope we can do enough to scrape our way into the tourney. I'd even take a first round loss.
Glad we found a way to pull this one out though. Can't say our late game execution was as bad as it was against SJU or WVU, so there's some progress. Jason still isn't quite right, but at least Austin's back to his deadly self. Nice game offensively and on the glass for Julian, but Henry really struggled today. Nice game by Hollis too.
Can't wait till Nate is seasoned enough to be a very good player for us. We've been missing a true 4 ever since Jeff walked out that door.

At times, we look like the most polished offense in the country, but we are an utter trainwreck on defense. I cant look away. Even that play where Vaughn rebounded the ball and then threw it right back in the lane! Luckily, it found a player. I swear, we are a trainwreck.

This would have been a great win circa 2003. Nobody better be happy about this. You and anyone else who thinks that is a complete idiot. Losing this game and the season would be OVER. OVER. No they aren't playing well and they didn't play well(well I don't think, i didn't get to watch), but they are still alive and in better position than they were just a few hours ago. Game by game, and a win is a freaking win, especially on the road. Jesus, anyone who thinks we should be blowing ANYONE out right now is slightly out of their mind. We have a long way to go and have to get a lot better, so I'll take the wins as we are clearly not there yet.

Let's not forget Seton Hall shot lights out 2nd half (albeit in part due to poor defense)

Did Freeman mean to foul? We didn't want them to shoot a three. I know it's the smart play, but when the foul was called he put his hands out like "no not me" so I wasn't sure. I thought it was an accidental good play.

at least for positives:
credit is due to Austin's offensive game (certainly not his defense) and I thought Julian was overall, pretty solid. Hollis was okay, too.

Take heart, Hoyatalkers. We pulled it out. If nothing else, that probably means the trolls will be scarce over the next week as we get ready for the revenge game against the Johnnies. If you can't feel good about that, what can you feel good about? HOYA SAXA!!! Win is a win, especially on the road.

I will take the win. How about two weeks ago when #3 Pitt was losing to Providence with less than 2 minutes to play at Providence? They ended up winning by 4 and the last time I checked, Providence is 0-6 in Big East play.
Winning on the road is tough. We got two road wins. Be happy and on to St. John's

One key to this game was the limited use of Benimon in the 2nd half.

In case we play Seton Hall again, would someone make a mental note that Robinson goes left.
Talent levels of the two teams is very close. Sadly.
We shoot foul shots better.
Henry Sims is not a Big East level player.

A win is a win. Thrilled the guys finally started to fight on defense in the first 4 minutes and we finally saw SHU miss some perimeter shots, but this was by no means a good game by us tonight.
First the positives: obviously AF's shooting (though he played awful defense again as usual). But I think the difference tonight was JV's fight. Had a great first half, was quiet when SHU made their run, but made the plays that had to be made down the stretch after Pope went out. He was by far our best defensive player on the floor (I know, not saying much with tonight's effort) and his continuous contesting of shots saved us. And I like the fact that our guys cut to the hoop with a purpose instead of going through the motions. It looked like that aspect of our offense was emphasized since the last game, which is one small positive the staff can take away.
Negatives: Staff again needs to be chastised for what I thought was a poor effort overall. No timeout during the 19-2 run, and we have one saved at the end of the game? Inexcusable. No play to be run with 2.5 seconds left in the half? Inexcusable. And I swear, if I see one person get beat baseline, I might break my TV. JC was terrible tonight. Careless with the ball and once again gave us nothing from outside. Couple that with matador D and I think his minutes need to start coming down. Perimeter defense as a whole obviously has sucked for the better part of this season, but it was especially poor tonight. And it was quite possibly the worst transition defense I have seen us play this year. There was a 4-5 minute stretch where no one on the floor looked like they gave a damn about getting back on D. Has nothing to do with talent. That's all heart. Above all, JB needs to sit. For good.
Look, I'm thrilled we won the game. It makes the next 8 days easier to stomach and I would imagine the guys can at least take some confidence away from tonight knowing they won two games on the road and have a chance to get back to .500 next Wed. But there is still a great deal that needs to be worked on. Here's my plea to them and the staff to give their best effort this coming week so that mistakes are corrected and our play improves before the competition improves as well.

Henry Sims is not a Big East level player.I disagree. It's been his 'breakout' year but we shouldn't expect it to be a smooth ride. Expect more good games and more frustrating ones.
