yes...the rest of USU's schedule is completely winnable....although they should get a great bracketbuster opponent

It's amazing how they have not even played anybody from a major conference in several years other than their 1st round NCAA losses. Gottlieb alluded to something about the coach not wanting to agree to the road-game-only deals with major teams until this year, but that sounds a bit like a rationalization to me - if the coach thought they were a good team they should have shown it by going on the road and beating someone, anyone, from a major conference. Or at least play in a tournament at a neutral site with those teams. Weird. Their fans complain that none of the high-majors want to play at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, claiming that it's one of the toughest places to play in the country, which they admit has lots of downside and almost no upside for the visiting OOC high-major. On edit: in other words, what daytona said. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Dhall, You're speaking like a guy who's familiar with East Coast basketball only. BYU won a game in the tournament last season, and spent most of the year in the top 15. They don't play in the big east, but in college basketball that's a major team. St. Mary's went to the sweet 16. Maybe you heard of them. They beat Villanova, in our conference, to get there. Nevada had two NBA draft picks last year alone, one in the first round. I won't tell you who they are, I'll let you do the research. In 2008, they had another first rounder. I'll give you a hint. He starts for the Wizards....in our city. Stew Morrill has one of the best homecourts in the country, bar none. He didn't want to play anyone without a return game. You go to the SPectrum and you'll see why ZERO major conference teams would want to go to Logan. Nothing positive could come out of it. He also tried for neutral sites, had St. John's and Rutgers lined up for home and homes, but they each reneged at the last moment. I definitely admit the East Coast/BCS bias and do appreciate your insights. The teams you mention seemed to be quality teams (though USU lost to some of them and beat others), but it's hard to argue that 2 or 3 wins over the past 2 or 3 years against mid-major teams that have won a couple games in the NCAA is much of a track record. USU has very few "bad losses" though, which is why I say it's weird. Why not play the big boys and see what happens? He's doing it this year of course, but I am not going to give them credit for what they've done (not done) in the past. If you're Utah State and you want respect, you should not be afraid to play teams that get national respect, even if it means playing them on the road. All of the other teams from smaller conferences have no problem doing it, and maybe the reason that a St. Mary's, Gonzaga, Butler, Nevada, etc. have had success in the NCAAs is because they schedule tougher than Utah State does during the regular season.

Yeah, I agree with you. That's on Morrill, but it's also tough when teams don't want to do 1-1's or even 2-1's. Morrill took this game because he felt he had the team to do it. Maybe they play us tough, maybe we blow them out, I don't know. I do know that he's a great coach with a great program and he has his best team on paper in quite a while. Whether we beat them or not, Utah State maybe loses two more games the rest of the year. The WAC sucks this season. Last year the WAC was much much better. But Morrill clearly took this game so that the NCAA doesn't represent a shock when his team see's better athletes.

I hope they are a good team, they give us a close well-played game where we have a nice 8-10 point lead the whole way so we can get some minutes for the bench, we win by 12, and then they go on to win the rest of their games!

Def a trap game. Utah state is a decent (maybe good) mid major.
Hopefully the booth crowd can help. The guys were in a slightly hostile crowd last night...

Huge trap game. This is a good team without a ton of name recognition. This is like playing ODU at home. Let's just hope it's a different result.

Worth reading their fanboards comments on last nights game. Funny how non-Hoyas see that game. Hoyas undisciplined, run and chuck offense, poor defense and bigs that are foul prone. Also wanting to see more of Nate because he is "horrible."
Having seen USU play several times over the years, I can say that they will provide a very different challenge than Missouri. They do not play at that same tempo and they do play a very tough disciplined defense. If this is a low scoring game we are in for a fight. Do not think that US can hang with us in an up tempo game.

This is a big game even if USU is coming in without a lot of fanfare. If you're in the DC area, get yourself to the game on Saturday.

That fanboard is hilarious, primarily because it seems like they've only seen the Mizzou game.
We're undisciplined on offense, apparently. And we can only create open looks off the dribble. It's like bizzarro world over there.

Utah State looked very strong defensively in the 1st half against Denver -- who didn't have any points in the paint in the 1st half -- 18 of 22 Denver points came from 3.
Offensively -- 42 (Wesley?) is a beast -- let's hope Julian stays out of foul trouble because he'll give Henry or Nate fits. A couple of decent smaller guards who have decent jump shots. The PG is young and took some ill advised shots.

I already hate their one guard, 23.
They have played a lot of zone tonight. A little bit of a press after made baskets.
Denver played like a really bad version of Georgetown in the 1st half.

Looks like that dangerous Utah St. team is dealing with their own trap game. Only up by 4 over 1-5 Denver w/about 2 mins left.

Great recap daytona....sounds like we have to take this game seriously. From your description, perhaps our best bet with Wesley is going with jerrelle.
