NC State is talented - Harrow and Leslie are really good. We should win though. - Freeman and Clark are both better than Harrow. - We have a bunch of guys who should match a frosh Leslie. - Their big guys have length but aren't that good. - Chris Wright should destroy Javi Gonzalez and it shouldn't be close.
Play good defense, hit some outside shots and we'll take home the w.

NC State will be without Tracy Smith, a three year starter and a 6-8 forward, who has an injured knee. He did not play in last night's game vs. GMU and will reportedly miss the next three weeks. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=5825069

This will be the first game we play against a team with some serious height. It will be a god test for Julian, Jerelle and Henry. Hopefully, the coaching staff will settle Hollis and Nate a little. Hoolis is not as worrisome, because we have seen what he can do.

I like that Nate knows their freshmen from the h.s./AAU tournaments. Maybe he has the better game tomorrow.

Maybe Chris Wright will want to show Wolfpack fans what they missed. You also have NCSU coach Sidney Lowe who played for DeMatha a la Austin Freeman. Looks like a young squad, particularly without Tracy Smith. Experience should win out if our Hoyas play solid defense. You have three freshman and two sophomores average about 70 points per game for NCSU. Wolfpack freshman Leslie, Harrow and Brown will see what an experienced group of seniors Wright, Freeman and Vaughn bring to the court. I like our chances and believe it will be a good test for the Hoyas. Got to like JTIII's early season schedule. This is so much better than St. Leo, Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore.

NC State has 3 guys that are 6'8/6'9 that play major minutes, but that's about it. They have a 7 footer, but he's only played about 3/min a game so far.

We should win easily with him out of the lineup. Now go out and execute.

So on their message board the state fans keep bitching about the 1989 sweet 16 game against us. They're acting like the refs stole the game from them and they want revenge. I guess their complaint is a bout a traveling violation against them. We won by 8. Anyone care to shed some light. I was 2.

Forget the guy's name (Chris Corchiani?), but I remember the play. Jumped into the air and passed it (or shot it?) - was pretty close to whether he came back down before the ball came out of his hands. I thought his foot touched the ground and the call was legit. That swung the game in our favor.

I guess their complaint is a bout a traveling violation against them. We won by 8. Anyone care to shed some light. I was 2. They are referring to a travelling call against Chris Corchiani late in the game -- I think NC State was making a comeback and could have tied or taken the lead on that possession. Corchiani was a popular player -- top recruit from the state of Florida, as I recall. Might have also been Jim Valvano's final NCAA tournament game as a coach but I'm not sure about that. His strategy was to lay back on the GU guards and let them take threes. Remember him throwing his towel in exasperation when Dwayne Bryant kept making them. Why is Sidney Lowe still working? I know he's an alumnus but his career NBA/NCAA coaching record must be something like 34-157.

Yeah - I'm thinking it was on a shot that went in. Whistle Blew. NC State thought it was going to be an "and one", which would have tied the game or put them up. Ref called the travel. But replays showed his foot hitting the ground before he released it. And I could be totally inventing this, but I don't think the announcers picked up on his foot hitting the ground before he released the shot, and instead were trying to find out where he traveled before he jumped into the air. Which is why it was controversial, but it seemed pretty clear it was a travel. Edit - found this video: www.statefansnation.com/index.php/archives/2009/03/29/1989-worst-call-in-ncaa-tournament-history/So it definitely wasn't clear it was a travel, but you can't really tell in this video if he came down before the shot left his hand. But it didn't look like a foul on Zo either.
