RDF, no one, including me, is arguing that players should not be held to a standard and the coach needs to enforce that standard, including subbing when someone is not performing well. What I am reacting to is the over-the-top, insulting criticism tossed at our players by you and some others whenever we have a bad game. Would be interesting to see you post your infallible assessments in a way that does not come across as being so full of yourself.
Oh, and have a Happy New Year.

Would be interesting to see you post your infallible assessments in a way that does not come across as being so full of yourself. Oh, and have a Happy New Year. It's not insulting to say a guy stunk/was awful when he has a bad game--it's also not insulting to say they haven't done the job over a course of their career. This isn't little league where people "try hard" and get hugs and juice boxes and ribbons for participation. These guys all come to Georgetown to PLAY BASKETBALL (save the student athlete crap for naive fans). Do they go to class? Yep--Georgetown should be commended for enforcing this, but players come to play ball first-be students second. With that--comes exposure, with exposure comes criticism. When you get criticized---it's part of the deal that comes with exposure of playing on big stage. What I don't understand--we hear all the time "You think INSERT HOYA COACH/PLAYER, etc..." doesn't read/listen to anything that is said--or "What team did you coach....." when someone is critical of what is going on--but you don't hear a peep if you praise people. Why is that? If being critical is too harsh for people--then maybe they picked the wrong stage to work in/play in. I've been yelled at, called names, told to get my ass in gear and directly to my face in workplace---did I sit and cry about it or call my mommy/daddy to say the big bad boss was too mean in his demands? No--do I cry when you come from behind the counter at the Candy store and wave your fist at me? No--I just let you spew the Joan Baez crap and laugh at the naive outlook in regard to how college athletics operate, and how these players are just "gritty kids trying to make their way in the world". So for all of those NOT named Ed----here's a simple, constructive suggestion for the program--if you have a full compliment of players--and certain guys aren't performing--especially on defensive end--SIT THEIR ASS DOWN. There are other guys who deserve the opportunity to play and see what they can do--and when someone keeps messing up in the same manner on the court--repeatedly--that warrants a more critical/biting commentary then if it's a 1 game occurance. The same weaknesses in this program are creeping up--and there is no excuse this year--if guys don't want to play defense--bench them. I was told last year I was being "unfair" to some players-Jason Clark being one of them--and my criticism was directed at defensive end--specifically the backcourt's lack of defense and how did last year turn out? This year's team has more potential and is it not insanity to allow the same things repeatedly hold them back from being a good/contending team? I think so--voice it here. If you don't like it--don't read it. If you can't handle it--don't read it. As we're told so often--nobody of importance reads our posts--so why should it matter what a little Edited ant fan has to say--especially when I'd hope they would be enjoying their lives--and hopefully focusing on the upcoming opponent/preparing for that. If they aren't--maybe they should be.

How anyone who has watched this team perform over the last 2 1/2 seasons can argue with RDF is beyond me. I've been on JC for a long time and have given up on him ever being more than an average defender. Contrary to most fans here, defense is as much about skill, brains and ability as it is about effort. this applies in varying degrees to most on this current team. When the coach comes out in mid decmber and states that they had to work on the defensive end thats a XXX moment for me. Responsibilty for where this team goes lies equally wth the staff and the players . I just have not seen any real indication that any thing will change either from a philosophy standpoint or in actual execution. While this team may have great potential offensively it only half the game and not the half that takes you where you want to go.

BTW, do you do this hyperactive reactionary posting on Miami football boards or any of the forums for your other bandwagon teams? Seems like the U deserves more of your venom these days than GU.

RDF: I think everybody pretty much agrees with your desire for the team/players to excel on both ends of the floor. While it's nice to believe that "nobody of importance" reads this place it's also somewhat naive; the facts are that the players and staff do read what is posted here. The guys are still students and 18-22 year olds. Today's college students read the internet all the time: if they don't their friends will quickly point out to them what they've missed. That's why anyone delivering their assessment of what was executed right/wrong by a player needs to try to do it with a minimum of pejorative language directed at that player. The staff is well aware of who is giving maximum effort. There is at least one player on this year's team who has come around and matured his focus. It's clear the staff was on that (though not in public) and the results have shown on the court. I trust them to do it with this year's team.
Gino Auriemma, as despicably large as his ego is, had it right the other night when he said (paraphrasing) some nights you aren't going to come with your A game and play a team on their home floor who did - and you're going to lose. That's when you learn and move on.
The players on this team have the talent and desire to do exactly that. The staff is quite capable of getting that improvement out of them.

Remember your boy Hopson? you are weird because you remember stuff like that. get a life. and no, you did not prove me wrong on that. you equated his performance to the same typr that ramone moore had. hopson has proven himself wayyy more than temple's no name and that is why you cannot compare their performances. guess who dropped 24 last night. not that one game can make or break an argument, but it does strengthen it. real question, have you ever even played a sport competitively? this is ridiculous, you cant just attack two posters for showing support to chris, get a life dude.

You mean Lottery Hopson? You make me laugh.
And yes I have played sports competitively and still do. Love it how you attack and don't know. Again, you make me laugh.
BTW, I'm not attacking Daytona's post.
