we tried taking it inside and ND plays such clean D that they did not once foul us shooting in the lane - not once all game. when we had them beat the whistle kept it on the floor, non-shooting, and when we got into the trees they just let the contact slide. Chris should be a big enough man to adjust to that and use the mid-range, but last night that didn't happen.

We had 8 guys who played sub-par games last night, some a little more sub-par than others. One thing about this team - when we win it will definitely be a team victory, and when we lose there will be plenty of fault to go around.

Chris is the floor leader but when the team is struggling it can't be all on him to figure it out and fix it. Austin needed to assert himself sooner. Jason needed to stop shooting threes and look for mid range shots like the only two he attempted. The bigs need to make low post moves and score when not double teamed. The forwards needed to get better position and take charge of the boards. The ball movement all around needed to be much crisper to get better shots.

Not sure if seaweed was attacking Chris with the "big enough man" statement but I take it more as he is a senior. It falls on our experienced players to make adjustments when things aren't working. Austin began to drive but Chris just couldn't get it going, maybe trying the midrange game would have worked. BTW seaweed great point about the non-fouls...its rediculous

that expression didn't work - the idea with fouls/punishment is that you have to be 'man enough' to take it, which is of course ridiculous when there is no rhyme/reason between contact and the whistles/lack thereof in the first place - but i digress.
it is well known around here that i am an anti-official let them play type guy and i suppose a lot of folks don't remember patrick getting blown out of games after less than 4 minutes and how much those forced lineup changes kill the game plan, but the fact does also remain that CW, austin and the others needed to make adjustments against ND. particularly of the 13 foot variety, and it didn't happen. it wasn't like our D didn't create the opportunity. ND's D is good, maybe great (at least at home/sold out/start of season/week off) with the height, but they are vulnerable in the post, and our best guy lasted like 100 seconds - smh
ps ti: if you want to get into who is all world at stuff and things, any time bro, anytime:)

i'd like to see you be an all world basketball player... What the hell does this even mean? It was referring the criticism of Chris' decision making and asking him to do stuff that only all world talents are accustomed to doing. These decisions are what separate the good from the great. It's easier said than done..

Chris Wright has attempted to transfer his game/done so quite well. He's doing what you hope players do--develop. That being said--what the hell has Jason Clark done? He's same player he's been. He's improved his outside shot--and...... ? Ball handling-a bit--defensively he's got ability to be a stopper, shown it at times--but often doesn't step it up at all. For all the blame Wright is getting--he's at least adjusted his game to fit others/make team better--it's time for Clark to step it up--or start seeing his playing time reduced.

Agree with RDF that not enough attention has been focused on Clark's disappearance the other night. Jason should be the premier defensive player on this team. However, he is still a work in progress and the issue is whether he can take the next step to be able to become the "man" next year, when opposing defenses can focus more attention on him.

Simple solution if Clark slumps this year: Vee.

Anybody has a bad game. Let's bench him. Since they all looked bad against ND, let's bench the whole bunch and go with the walk-ons. We want perfection and will accept nothing less. Make all of our shots and keep the opposition off the scoreboard completely. And we must get all the rebounds, and no turnovers. 20 and 21 year olds should be perfect by now. That is all.

A bad game? You are inexcusably soft Ed. One bad half and grab some pine.

Chris has a lot on his plate.
He is our primary ballhandler, distributor, has to shoot for a good percentage, and has to score 1/3 of the points for us to win every night.
that is a lot.
There is nobody else on this team that is asked to do as much as Chris.
When Wallace was here, he had guys like Ashanti Cook and Sapp to at least help carry the load with him. where Wallace could play off them and not always have to bring the ball up. Not to mention NBA frontcourt players like Summers, Green, and Hibbert.
Wright doesn't really have that type of backcourt compliment or those type of big men in the frontcourt to take the load off of him. So its understandable when he might struggle at times.
I thought maybe Starks would be ready at this point to help Wright out, but maybe he is not. Have to wait in see as the season progresses. Clark and Vee are similar type players. They pretty much off-guards exclusively.
When Chris graduates, Starks will have some big shoes to fill.
And III needs to recruit some more ballhandlers for this team.
Outside of Chris and Freeman, I cringe when i see some of our guys handling the rock.

As far as Lumpy my main man and our floor general he is our point guard! He is an extension of the coach on the court. He controls the game. Once he/guards get the ball and insert it into the post they need to communicate to the bigs, "work him". This in turn gives our bigs confidence in knowing that when they get the ball they don't have to always pass the ball back out.
Those inside shots are high percentage shots and the bigs "have" to take those shots. A right or left handed jump hook would be suffcient and some post moves. It's all about confidence. When the bigs get the all in the post the guards have to encourage not to throw to ball back out most of the time. Again, this will give them all the confidence in the world, and will throw their opponent off. If the bigs are continuously throwing the ball back out to the post and defense realizes this it makes it easier and quicker for the defense to get out to defend the perimeter...in turn the option after this is for everyone to finding a way to get to the basket...where there's a "will" there's a "way", and it takes a smart, tough, gritty player/players to do this time in and time out...in basketball, you cannot, I repeat, you cannot rely on the 3 pointer. It may look good in the stats and may sound when sport analysts talk about our shooting percentage and all, but Hoya ball is about that thump, that bang bang tough gritty play...when says GEORGETOWN or HOYAS on the front of the uniform that's they only thing I can think about....that's the tradition GO HARD because D.C. IS OUR PLAYGROUND!!! :0)
It's true, if you have players that are not performing to their potential you sit them, so they can get their minds together, so when they come back into the game they'll be ready to perform to their highest level. We have depth now, so we can do this, and plus this is what are nonconference games got us prepared for. We've played just about everyone at certain times in those nonconference gamesin tough and hostile environments so, I think most of our Hoyas are ready.
I remember when I played there was always that player that you had to look over your shoulder about. And this is how it's suppose to be. This in turn made me step my game up and play better knowing this player might take my spot if I continue to play bad no matter who I was. If anything this helped me, I may not have realized it at the time, but as time went on this actually made me be the best I could be.
No matter what anyone says the guards should be relying on the bigs to carry us. This will open everything up once the bigs realize this, and they have to some degree because the Hoyas are not 11-2 for no reason, lol...remember, we can never blame our team, but we can encourage in a constructive way. This is our young men and we love them and dthe blue n gray no matter what. We have a great coach, they will make the adjustments, they have film and I'm pretty sure they know what to do, they are the experts I definitely trust and believe in them.
Some of our opponents coaches goals are to take out our first line of defense, and that happens to be Chris, so I'm sure he knows this andwill make the adjustments to do other things with and without the ball. We have so many weapons and can do many things, but we have to use them. We can play Vee, Aaron, Starks and especially Big Moses more...take in mind Moses is strongggggggggggggg as bleepppppppp and is very attentive...they are ready and if they're not we'll know but watching them on the court, at least you can play them and see...

I have to disagree with a decent amount of your post behindthebench. Though I do agree to the extent that the bigs do have to be viewed as a definite option. I think we need better defense. That's no secret. We also need all of our guards to get into seams and use the midrange game or to get inito those seams and pass into the blocks as our passing into the post is still not great. In any case, Chris, Austin and Jason need to be a threat from the elbow. It would be even better if Nate could develop more of a pull-up game as well. I think we're good with the potential to be much better. Our offense is already good enough. It can, however, improve. Where we need to be more attentive is the defensive end and our opponents know this.
Most importantly, Happy New Year to all Hoyas and the extended Hoya family. I wish nothing but happiness, however you define it, to each and every one. May 2011 be a phenomenal year on the court and off. May we continue our tradition of graduating good men not just good ballplayers. We have a lot to be thankful for. Highs and lows will happen but the future continues to be bright. HOYA SAXA!

Ed, I know it's hard to fathom the "20/21 year olds" should be held to a standard--as in if they aren't performing--other guys on the team should be allowed to play as they sit/watch and figure out if they'd like to play well or just refuse to do their job-but it's life. Despite the fact that you want everyone to hold expletive hands, as the official takes the ball out of the peach basket after a make--this is a different era. Deleted. Jason Clark has to play better/accept his role--and if he's not playing well-there are ample people to step in and take his minutes. It's up to him--he sucked the other night and was worst Hoya on the court by far. He didn't light it up in Memphis either--and minute he went out of the game--the team played it's best defense of the season--both individually and team. These guys are on scholarship and have aspirations--if they want to achieve them--it's time to put on the big boy pants deleted--if they can't do that--then it's time to sit and watch next to the Caprio Crew. So go give out a golden ticket to Charlie Bucket and let the rest of us discuss what is going on in 2011. Or go watch deleted--just quit acting like a player should not be replaced by a teammate when he's playing like the crappy candy you give out to the kids in search of the golden ticket. Thanks--and watchout for Slugworth-he wants the formula for the everlasting gobstopper. Sarcasm in response to sarcasm is fine, but please do not take it over the line. Thanks.
