Chris did a good job today--and most importantly---he didn't try to be a "hero"--he made sure the right guy got the ball down the stretch (III deserves credit for so many things in this game--but in particular making sure right guy got the ball--which was/is carried out by Chris).
Wright's defense late was also due to him having 4 fouls--and let's face it--when he leaves the game-ball handling outside of Austin gets shaky---really shaky and can you imagine Markel or Jason in those double teams that Wright got out of? I don't want to even think about it.
ESPN "Davidson-ing" us viewers was painful--especially when I could hear the roar of the crowd as they changed back--knew that wasn't good but was stunned it was a 3pt lead with Nova shooting FT's to cut into it further!
Thing is--you face adversity in a season/game--and the way the team responded was outstanding--poise and execution. I can live with Wright not leaving 3pt shooters open--rather have them going for 2 then giving up the 3--so some of that is strategic and you don't want to foul--but I thought Chris was good--pts aren't everything and more importantly--if he's not feeling his shot--why force it--the team shot 52% from field in the game-and was outstanding at the FT line--and most importantly-got a road win against a top 10 team and very good team. He also played the rest of the game and not just his mistakes.
I'd say today was a sign he grew up as a player--if anything but that's just because I think winning is most important and how a guy responds to a few mistakes--he didn't shy away from ball--and while he picked up his dribble in some bad areas--he knew he didn't have a timeout (that the officals weren't wrongly giving to teams at end of game) and he looked opposite after breaking through trap-which is smart basketball.
Good job this week from him and he didn't shoot it well--just think of how the team will do when he does? Most important for Chris from here on out--protecting ball/controlling tempo and making FT's--he does that--team will be fine!

Good points RDF. I especially agree about Chris breaking the traps...many other players would try to go around on the sideline and end up going out of bounds Also it seems to me like we have practiced breaking the doubleteam and passing cross court, as Chris did it a couple times and Austin had one to Nate for that slam.

I don't think you practice the pass Austin gave to Nate. That was half desperation/half strungth/half vision/half onions.

Exceptional game from Chris, not just scoring, but absolutely controlling the tempo, handling the pressure - CW to the rescue!

I fear for the future of ball handling without Chris Wright on the team next year.
Exceptional job against the press as he's done all year.

Tremendous down the stretch. He would not lose that game.

I fear for the future of ball handling without Chris Wright on the team next year. Exceptional job against the press as he's done all year. There's a reason the staff targeted Ty Johnson and although the class has turned out nice from a pure talent standpoint, not bringing in another primary ballhandler may come back to bite this team next season. As it stands, Markel is the only player projected for next season with a handle comparable to CW's. He's been a one-man press breaking machine for the last few years and that skill will be missed.

Last game it was Austin, this game it was Chris. Tremendous effort all game. I think we all knew, with the press coming, CW was going to have be strong with ball and make plays tonight. He delivered, BIG TIME! Eventually those shots around the rim were going to drop, good stuff Chris. This dude is tough, period.
As for next year, yikes! Visions of Sapp and Wallace doing the backwards passing to get past the press suddenly appear in my mind. Not good.

Exceptional game from Chris, not just scoring, but absolutely controlling the tempo, handling the pressure - CW to the rescue! So true. Kept us under control. And scored tonight when we needed him to.

Chris was excellent on both ends, hit all 8 FTs -- including those super clutch last two with 4 seconds to go... and in a game stuffed to the gills with Turnovers from both teams, Chris had only 1.
SUPER game Chris Wright!

Chris was great. The kid looked like he was so happy he could cry after it was all over. You have to love a kid that has passion for the game and that type of ticker.

There were a few possessions where we were starting to rush and Chris pulled the ball and settled down the team, love the leadership!

There were a few possessions where we were starting to rush and Chris pulled the ball and settled down the team, love the leadership! THIS, while he did still have one or two bad chris moments...for the most part he did great on the break today...especially on 2 on 2 or 3 on 2 moments that they defended well. There were times in the first half where the whole team was too quick on offense a few possessions in a row, including Austin, but, to my surprise, it was Chris slowing down the team the majority of the time. Great game by Lumpy, on O and D!!

Chris looked like he got a little choked up at the end of the game. The kid took last game to heart and came out fighting tonight. He left it all out there and willed the team to win. This one belongs to Chris.

I had a feeling Chris would have a big game when he had a big smile on face during the player intros. He looked loose and ready.

Yes - I had that same feeling too, JE_III. I liked how Chris tried a couple 3s to start the game, realized they weren't dropping, and then focused on driving the ball for layup or pull up jumpers. Very smart adjustment. He was our MVP today.
CLUTCH FTs by Freeman, Julian, Clark, and Wright!!! Sims and Lubick not so much.

Only two words for Chris: THANK YOU.
Great, great game tonight. When that one wrecking-ball, falling-down, spinning layup in the second half went in, I knew the Hoyas were fated to win this game. Way to WILL the team to victory tonight!

He wasn't just our MVP, he was almost our OVP (Only Valuable Player) on offense at times. Great game to carry a struggling team.
