Take it with a grain of salt but Greg Swaim is tweeting that he expects Otto to commit to KU soon. Also, Anderson's commitment won't affect Otto at all. KU has FIVE open schollies right now. The Anderson argument is the same as saying Greg's commitment will drive Otto to KU. Hopefully Swaim is wrong. Swain is a hack he hasn't been right about anything ever. he's the one who started the bogus Jeff Capel is going to be an assistant at Missouri crap. Reading kansas and missouri fans talk about him no one thinks this guy is credible.

I feel like when it goes against us though, guys who have never been right a day in their lives suddenly get big scoop. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, and when it's bad news for us you can almost guarantee it.

From what I've read, Swain is a complete joke. His recent scoops seem like guesses that he hopes will pay off...capel, pressey transferring to arkansas, etc. No reason to believe that Otto is going to commit to Kansas soon when his visit is not until the weekend after next. Lets just hope he had a good time at Georgetown and felt comfortable. Its in his hands after all. I'm sure people like Swaim with their "scoops" are part of the reason the kid decided to deactivate his twitter.

No chance Haith isn't highly interested. Didn't the no contact period just recently end? That's likely the reason. The point is coaches recently became allowed to contact recruits outside of the 1 phone call a weak. And yet Haith still hasn't talked to the kid yet. If you want the kid he should've your very first call. His lack of contact to this point has to be really troubling to missouri fans. Even still - is it conceivable that Haith doesn't want this kid? Cannot fathom that scenario - all indications point to Porter expecting to meet with Haith soon so even if they haven't talked yet, that doesn't mean Haith hasn't reached out to him or to someone close to him.

I think we have a good chance for two reasons: JT3 and staff were on him early; more importantltly the way he and family have handled his development with assurance and without the hype of AAU shows a seriousness of purpose; I suspect that his family is looking for a degree from Otto. In which case the choice has to be Georgetown.

Well, considering that Missouri has graduated only 44% of its players (and has a 38% rate for African-American players), it's fair to ask whether they give out degrees there. Kansas is more on par with Georgetown (80% overall, 67% African-American). www.afro.com/sections/content/index.htm?id=61Then again, would you trade your degree from Georgetown for one from Kansas? Hopefully the Porters are thinking along the same lines--they seem to be cut from a different cloth then most families.

Another good reason for Georgetown (for anyone interested in a degree with capable support): college.georgetown.edu/120573.html#newsitem-videoI think most BB players are part of the program, right? Completely off-topic, but for those interested in other Gtown videos, here's one of SFS-Qatar, for their new building. Good music score, weaving together school song with other music. I'll open a link in the 37 & O section qatar.sfs.georgetown.edu/147794.html

You cant possibly think a kid of this caliber has his eyes set on getting a degree... now dont take that the wrong way as I am not saying he does not want a college degree. However, his priority is to get to the L. You dont put the hours in he has put in, per the articles Ive read, if his dream is not to get to the L. With that premise in mind, I do not think it is close. KU puts players in the league year after year. That is what GTown is going to have to overcome. We do not put wings in the L, or even guards. Yes you can point to Jeff and DaJuan, but relatively speaking it is not close. KU has the edge on us in that department. We can argue quality of education all we want, but to date I have not seen a high school player with obvious nba potential choose a school based on academics... The decision is Otto's and who knows ALL that he is weighing, but lets not be foolish and think he is not thinking about his best path to the L. And unfortunately, GTown is not the winner in that department. So if he doesnt come, I for one would not be shocked.

It's not decisive, but you can't say someone like Greg didn't factor in the academics when he was making his choice. And seeing you modified to make your post a lot more reasonable, I think you're right--academics can play a factor, especially if the kid is smart enough to realize the importance of the deflated ball, but unless he really cares, it's hard to argue that going to Kansas won't provide him with a good enough of education to be successful in life during/after basketball. If a kid cares about a degree though, well, it's hard to justify going to a place like Missouri or Maryland or Syracuse, where players just don't graduate.

If I were from a tiny town in the middle of nowhere MO, and I had worked my entire childhood on my game, then i grew a zillion inches in HS to get to 6'9, and i was dying to get to the NBA.... AND I was also thinking a college degree would be a positive..... I'd be thinking a degree from Mizzou or Kansas would be just fine. Just sayin'
You know, the perfect guy to talk to this kid might be Jon Wallace. Unfortunately, he's probably still playing in Europe. But he grew up on a farm in Alabama. Never lived away from home. Moved to the "big City" and had a great time. Went to the Final Four. Southern drawl. Smart kid. Knows JT3's system and the value of developing multiple skills - dribbling, passing, shooting, court vision, understanding the game...

TBird-
I think we are saying the same thing. I was just pointing out to people that think we are in the driver's seat and if we do not get him it is some huge indictment on things, that it is not. We have a MAJOR hurdle to over come.
I talk kids on the recruiting circuit often enough and I have never heard the academic argument from a kid as a basis for choosing school A over school B. At least not a kid this highly rated. When you are an all american in high school, you are trying to get to the L.
Having said that, getting this kid is still a major priority!

Let's just steer Porter clear from some other southern Hoya transfers like Jerry Nichols, Duane Spencer, and Eric Myles.

But I've also lived in the south for a few years and they don't get nearly as worked up over someone having a degree from a Private Northeastern Name Brand school as say people in the Northeast do. If you live in Missouri or Kansas and have a degree from the state school, that is not going to keep you from getting a job locally. In fact a lot of athletes who don't make it to the league end up working for prominent local businessmen who were fans while they played for the state school.

Georgetown has put 5 players into the league during the last 4 drafts, and all of those players are still on NBA rosters. 3 of them look like they will have long, fruitful NBA careers with Monroe looking like he will one day be an All-Star, and Hibbert and Green having an outside chance at that as well. We produce just as much, if not more, quality NBA talent in recent years as Kansas.

Royski-
I hear you but that is not the argument. Kids want to see other players you have developed, BUT at their position. Telling Austin Rivers that GTown has put GM/RH/DS in the league doesnt help us get him. I guess you are counting PRjr in your 5, although he was not drafted. Well KU has 11 players on rosters that were all drafted.
I would say that Dajuan is probably the best example we can point to in order to convince a guy like Porter that we put guys in the L. The problem is that Dajuan is the least likely to advocate for Gtown.

Lots of mediocrity otherwise. Unless I missed someone, I'd think that Jeff/Greg/Roy are better then everyone KU has sent the NBA except Pierce. Additionally, I'd think that part of the attraction for Otto to Georgetown is getting to play the Point Forward Jeff position.
