I don't really blame our guys for not doing the stuff Kim English or Thomas Robinson are....but it would be nice once in a while to see a current player reach out to a prospective one. maybe Jabril will do it once he arrives. seems like Jason is always the guy that hosts the visitor(s). Not sure about the past but for this particular team it has to be tough to actively recruit someone knowing that one of your current teammates has to or will be leaving if the said recruit wants to come.. I know I know, this is how the game works and all that... From a players/team perspective it has to be a strange feeling though.. Also wouldn't Markel or Nate be a better choice to show Otto around than JC?

We don't REALLY need him. We don't even REALLY have a scholarship for him. While I would love to get him and love the reports we have been getting, I will understand why he chooses elsewhere. He has been pretty open about what he is looking for in a school. Obviously if we lose him it will be a let down because it means he didn't feel comfortable here.
Unless he pulls an Ochefu and goes somewhere random, I would understand losing out to either of the two teams.

Too bad its not nicer out for Otto's visit. Georgetown is a much happier, more fun place when its nice out...obviously not a deal breaker but still wouldve been a plus

We have no earthly clue whether our players reach out to prospects. Players, I am sure, text, call, and Facebook in addition to tweeting and that is all out of our eyes. This is more speculative than determining whose roster spot Otto would take!

Unless the team has been informed that a non-senior player (or more than one) is leaving, there has to be some awkwardness to this visit. Kind of strange.
And let's just say Otto is not being treated to postcard perfect Cherry Blossom weather this weekend in DC. It's gray, cold and rainy - pretty disgusting.

I've had too many recruiting letdowns to be anywhere near confident about us landing Otto....everytime we REALLY want someone, he goes somewheres else The fact that we're still listed and getting a visit tells you it's not over... but at this point the Hoyas would have to be considered the longshot to land this kid, right? From everything he has said, being close to home has great value to the kid - and we're the farthest away from home. I don't have my hopes up at all for this. I know some agitators have been painting him as some kind of must-get, but that's only because it plays into the agendas of the trolls - who will no doubt see the sky falling if Porter goes elsewhere.

Time to prove we can out recruit the big boys nationally. This is a make or break recruit.

Time to prove we can out recruit the big boys nationally. This is a make or break recruit. Really? We don't currently have a scholarship for this kid and he is a "make or break recruit." It would be nice to get this kid (so long as the right player leaves), but otherwise not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. These next two recruiting classes ('12 and '13) and how we do on the court are both infinitely more important.

Grand scheme of things my arse. Who cares who leaves. Time to make way for better talent. We all have an idea of who wont be back and to be honest we should all wish the kid the best somewhere else. This young man gives us something we have not had in 20+ years a bonafide tall small forward who can handle. The team needs impact players and we need them now. Otto V. Bismarck (the Bizmark is going off) may be the difference between the NCAA and no post season next year and total irrelevance once again. You think it is hard to recruit now try it after 4 bad years in a row. Time to prove we can out recruit the big boys nationally. This is a make or break recruit. Really? Time to prove we can out recruit the big boys nationally. This is a make or break recruit. To you, because you really like him. This statement has no basis in reality, however. You think it is hard to recruit now try it after 4 bad years in a row. What? Surely you jest.

"At your wake as I peek in Look in his casket feeling sarcastic look at him still sleepin." Yes since we will be really awesome without him. You guys as always fail to see the big picture like Lamont Coleman. When Bronxitos raved about Kemba Walker as a frosh most of you payasaos told Bronxitos Chris Wright was better. When I told you 3 years ago we needed to get more athletic and longer you guys told me we were plenty athletic enough..... When will you boys learn to heed the word of Bronxitos? This kid is what we need. Next year will be a growth year and perhaps we win a game in the tourney. 2012-13 provided we get a low post threat we could win it all and be downright nasty. First step in that process is getting this kid! Time to prove we can out recruit the big boys nationally. This is a make or break recruit. To you, because you really like him. This statement has no basis in reality, however.

When will you boys learn to heed the word of Bronxitos? Grow up and stop talking like a child. I'm completely serious. It's not funny and you make everyone here look bad every time you speak like this. I think we have a pretty decent chance at the kid. Missouri's new coach has no record of success, Kansas entered late, and his Otto's father seems to really like Georgetown.

I don't think any of these 3 schools should feel like they have an inside track. KU is KU, but they're on him late. We've been on him as early as anyone, but we're halfway across the country. Mizzou has the home court advantage, but a brand new coach without much of a pedigree. No one knows what's eventually going to sway this kid.
If we get this kid, we are going to be a very very long team. Hope Vee and Markel are ready for prime time though because they're going to have to be contributors in the backcourt.

Bronx is probably a little over the top as usual, but I disagree with anybody minimizing this recruit. We DO need a guy like Porter, and soon. The last few classes, including the 2011 class, have featured all solid players but mostly complementary players. That's nice, but having 13 solid players doesn't make you a contender in basketball, which is a superstars game. Is it a given that Porter becomes a star? Of course not, but his star potential is substantially higher than any of our other recruits in the last couple classes. So yes, we do need him, or somebody like him, ASAP. Saying "if we miss, meh, there's always 2012" is bad news, because that's what we said last year, and the year before.
I'm far from an expert, and it's extra hard to judge because he's playing weaker competition, but I think if he came to Georgetown Otto COULD be our 2nd or 3rd best player next year, and probably our 4th best player at worst. And he'd only get better from there. So yes, this IS a pretty big deal and could make a big difference for the team the next few years. Definitely not a "gravy" recruit, IMO.
About the scholarships, I wish people would just be quiet about it. I got warned a couple weeks ago, so trying to choose my words carefully but... Doesn't anyone think it's possible that the decision has long been made, the player(s) leaving is comfortable with it, the players still on the team are comfortable with it, and it's basically a non-issue for everyone around the program, yet it simply hasn't been made public yet? I know with other transfers in the past many people who knew the player leaving (or other players on the team) were aware well in advance, but it didn't go public for some time, possibly because the player/staff wanted to ensure that the kid was landing softly somewhere else. Anybody who has watched Georgetown a while ought to know that "transparency" is not paramount and alerting the public of team businesses isn't top priority. Why would this be any different? Just because it isn't on guhoyas.com yet does not mean that anything is still undecided or up in the air. I think it is fairly safe to say that the staff knows what they're doing--they always do, on these sorts of things.

I'm sure that if there is going to be some roster shakeup, the coaches and players are already well aware of it.

everyone but GW is signed and he'll do that within the next couple weeks. So if someone got cold feet they'd have to sit out a year.
