The man is out for 18 months and his professional future is uncertain...at least spell his name right.

This comment on the Post's Nats blog I found painfully funny:
"Relax. Straspocalypse is better than being killed by a home intruder, ODing on coke, or having his leg broken horrifically on national TV. By DC sports standards this is nothing.'

I never saw a Strasburg game, but I wonder whether arm trouble was inevitable. Some pitchers have poor mechanics and do not use their legs as they should. Was this the case with him?

I'm not an expert, so I can't comment simply by virtue of having watched the guy pitch. But everything I've read indicates his mechanics were fine.

Yikes! Thanks for the news, but what a disappointment. Sports medicine continues to make huge advances, so let's hope he gets back to his former ability, regardless of how long that might take.

I'm not an expert, so I can't comment simply by virtue of having watched the guy pitch. But everything I've read indicates his mechanics were fine. There's a lot of people out there who will talk about mechanics, and many of them will say something about his mechanics sucking -- look out for that inverted W! Reality is, while these people know things, not a damn one of them can really tie to delivery to injury risk. No one has pulled that off -- it's a lot like a lot of economics -- you can explain it but your prediction rates suck. Mark Prior had great mechanics before he broke down. Afterwards all these guys pointed out flaws. The same thing will happen with Stras. My personal feeling is that genetics is probably more important than the current variation in major league mechanics. Either way, some guys with TJ surgery come back fine and some don't. TJ surgery is a lot more recoverable than shoulder injury. I hope we get the real Strasburg back.

And I'll say again -- these guys are like Nostradamus. They throw out and some of it sticks.
For example, in your second link, he predicted something that actually didn't happen at all. Ligament tears and that kind of shoulder wear and tear aren't really close to the same thing.
Major league scouts didn't have an issue with his mechanics; just these amateur wannabes.

Maybe the curse "O' Les Boulez" has been transferred to the Nationals. Les Boulez get John Wall and the Nats get the curse!

womp womp. Sucks to be the nats. I legitimately feel sorry for the kid, but not for the fan base. Why not? His starts have been baseball events in DC. The city has baseball fans, and it could develop a nice baseball culture if the team were only good enough to root for. This kid finally gave fans a reason to be excited. During his first game, I was walking past Clyde's on the Walk, and there were probably 40 people standing outside the windows watching on the TVs inside. It was pretty cool. As a baseball fan and DC person, I was really hoping he would be the start of something.

So the only true Washington, DC fans are those that we fans of the Astros before they became the Nats? Or are you talking about those who became fans after Strasburg?

Mostly those who became fans after strasburg. Not a fan of those who jumped ship either. Fine with people who weren't fans of the orioles and started following the nats when they came to town.
Let's be clear though Don't care that passionately about any of this or baseball at all for that matter.
