Saw the Song of Ice and Fire teaser on HBO the other night. Looks like they're doing it right. The big question will be (assuming HBO doesn't kill it after two seasons like Rome) if Martin can get his act together and write the next books before the series catches up. Loved the books, but some of the more intense scenes could be tough to watch. There needs to be a Good Omens film. All the really good stuff for Good Omens comes from what's written, not the action. It might be good, but not great. Agreed. It has the same problem as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It'd be really hard to translate to film.

If you haven't seen Scott Pilgrim vs. the World yet, you need to go see it right now. It's absolutely incredible.

Really? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleship_(film)This to me sounds like thinking that an Ender's Game license won't pull in as many people. EDIT - oh, and Clue actually was an enjoyable movie.

That ws a setback, but it led me to these two rather clever parodies: and TV openings just aren't as good as they used to be. They really all need to include out of context shots of the main characters and other clips - not silly clever scenes of a man falling from a building that is supposed to be some metatextual narrative of the point of the show .

Don't get me started on Mad Men.
Or , as I like to call it, "Sex and The City for Dudes."

Or , as I like to call it, "Sex and The City for Dudes." You're confusing Mad Men with Entourage.

I only rag on Mad Men because of how obsessed people -- especially guys -- get with it.
It's a pretty good show. Pretty good. You'll enjoy the DVDs.
But it's nowhere near as good as people say it is. Not even close.

If you haven't seen Scott Pilgrim vs. the World yet, you need to go see it right now. It's absolutely incredible. Echo this. Just fantastic -- and don't read up on it at all. Makes it all the better. Also, Clue is still freaking funny, and a lot of comedies don't age well. Battleship sounds like a disaster, even though they are taking as many liberties as clue did. But Clue didn't have aliens as the killer.

Not even close. I think it is very similar to the Sopranos - some episodes are pretty powerful and/or introspective and/or brilliant, while most are just entertaining. It's well written, and uses great imagery at times, but sometimes it does feel like it is trying a little too hard. Overall, definitely an enjoyable show - KC I think you'll like it. I don't quite understand the "Sex and the City for Men" comparison, though? Really, though, all you need are the scenes with Joan.

Wouldn't it be better to list Earth's POC as Chuck Norris, to remind aliens that threats bring pain?

I dunno. I think having a go-to guy for this event, no matter how unlikely, is probably a good thing. Picking someone who understands math is also a great idea, at least according to these rules.

Are there any iPhone users here who have any of the augmented reality apps?
I don't have any yet, but they look pretty damn cool. I was just curious, since they're generally larger and more expensive than your standard apps, whether they really work as well as they seem to in the YouTube videos I've seen.
And since this is the Geek Thread, I should point out that there is a new Millenium Falcon augmented reality app that I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to resist for very much longer.

www.wired.com/underwire/2011/01/sexy-geeks-2010I will say that I'm annoyed by the commenters who nominated actresses that play geeks on TV or the big screen as if they were geeks themselves. Megan Fox, a geek? Charlize Theron? Some people just don't get it. The rest ... are some names that it's good to add to the mental rolodex in case you run into one at GameStop.

Megan Fox and Charlize Theron don't even play geeks in the movies.
They play hot women in movies that geeks like.
(or do not like, in the case of Transformers).
