For those of you watching the World Cup, check the fifth set score at Wimbledon. To be continued Thursday.

will someone translate this 59-59 for me? Is this like a tie breaker for the final set that just won't end?

that's pretty much exactly what it is, except it's not the tie break they can end with in earlier sets. So they have to just keep going with normal games. They're tied 59 games a piece in the 5th set.

This is about the only type of thing that could get me to watch Wimbledon before the final weekend.
Or, you know, unless Maria Sharapova played in a thong two-piece.

The previous record for longest match was 6 hours, 33 minutes (over 2 days). This match is 2 minutes from going 10 hours (over 2 days). The 5th set alone is over 7 hours (all played today). This match breaks every possible record for longest match. How on earth those guys are still able to even stand is beyond me. The Frenchman actually looked like he could play another couple of hours - he even dove for a shot in the final games. Isner could barely move, but his serve is so massive that he could stay in it. They are also 1-2 for most aces in a match (98-95 Isner). The previous Grand Slam record was 55, I think, and the previous all-time record was 78.

I actually switched over from soccer at 39-38 and i never left. Insane. Isner was wobbily but kept playing. He normally serves over 140 mph and he was throwing in serves that were barely over 100. Whenever he needed a big serve, he would somehow find the energy to get up to 120 mph. Whenever he got a ball that was hittable, he just went with his forehand and tried to hit a winner. Mahut was actually moving around the court reasonably well....incredibly well when you consider how long they had been playing. Points were very short and it certainly wasn't great tennis, still, it was must see TV. Very intriguing.

The Frenchman was afraid of being lectured by the French Minister of Sport and breaking into tears.

Until US Soccer makes it to the WC semis!
Incredible stuff! I was tired just from watching the highlights.
So, if these guys haven't finished playing, what happens to the next round? Will it start without a winner of this match? Is the winner of the match going to get at least 18 hours between matches?

It'll be even more amazing if he can avoid losing 0-6, 0-6, 0-6 in his next match.

I was tired of it at the end. The tennis was not especially compelling, IMO.

Isner has a doubles match later today. If there's ever a time to pull out of a tournament, i'd say this is it. I'm sure his partner Sam Querrey won't hold it against him. His singles match will be tomorrow.

Did anyone see a post-match interview with Isner where he was wearing a light red/pinkish shirt? The shirt had a dog wearing a cap with a "G" on it. It looked somewhat like the old school Georgetown logo (sort of in the realm of Cambridge's avatar). Anyone else see that?

No, but Isner went to the University of Georgia, so I'd think that any bulldog on a red / pinkish shirt would be UGA, not Jack.

It was almost certainly this guy: georgia4h.org/collegiate/images/georgiabulldogs_logo3_010905.gif. Well, Georgetown shirt or not, I still give him some credit after his 11+ hours of work.
