.....that the new iPhone I reserved today is actually in the store next Tuesday when they told me to come and pick it up?
I'm putting it at about 0.5% - 2.5%. Though I think that's being a bit generous.
Still, whenever I get it, looking forward to finally having a camera flash and video capability on my phone......
.....so I can go and accost random Congressmen on the street, of course. ("Excuse me, Ms. Slaughter, but fake teeth? Really? That's your argument??") ;D
I would look forward to video-phoning, but I'm not sure I want people to be able to see where I am when I talk to them.

I'd put it in the 0.1%-0.5% range. Then again that you'll be able to activate it before a week is out.
The fact that you were able to reserve it is a victory. (As an aside, I never figured you for an apple person -- I kind of actually figured you as an anti-apple person).
It kind of reminds me of LA Story: Suppose we were to grant you this reservation, and suppose that when you came to the restaurant, we honored your reservation...
"The ball should move, bodies should move. You talk about being an undisciplined, unselfish group. That's what you do. If the ball's sticking, great defensive teams are going to load up. If you don't move the ball and [be] unselfish, it's gonna be long nights, so you better learn to move the ball, share, and play with a sense of urgency on every possession. Our teams will always be unselfish, our teams will always be physical, and our teams will always do our best to defend."

How could I be anti-Apple....with all those wonderful little toys they have???
Actually, I have two PCs at home and no Macs. I like the Macs, quite a bit actually, I just feel like I get more for my money with the PCs and I think Microsoft has finally got themselves a pretty good OS with Windows 7.
As for the iPhone, well, if I get to use it sometime this summer, I'll consider it a victory. Not an anti-Apple observation, just an "anti-new-stuff-that-I-should-probably-wait-to-get-until-the-bugs-have-been-worked-out-but-I-just-can't-resist" rant.

I had the misfortune of either leaving my iPhone 3 in my seatback pocket when flying into Nassau over the weekend or having it reappropriated by the cleaning staff at the Wyndham Cable Beach, thus leaving me without my phone as I left the Bahamas on Sunday. While I am not normally the type to need the latest Apple product as soon as it comes out, I decided it would be stupid of me not to get an iPhone 4 with it coming out so soon. I also decided that I could tolerate 10-12 days without my primary cell phone (work does provide a Blackberry, but I don't give out the phone number to many people), but that I need to get this new phone as soon as possible. Having made all of these decisions, I spent an incredibly frustrating day yesterday attempting to accomplish my goal:
1. Went online at 7:30 AM, still at home, and attempted to preorder through Apple.com. Got to the point of inputting my phone info to verify my eligibility for an upgrade, then received a message that I could not upgrade because my account is currently suspended. Incredibly frustrating, as I had stopped in to an AT&T retail store the previous day to report my phone missing, suspend my account, and specifically asked whether having a suspended account would prevent me from pre-ordering on Tuesday.
2. Went to work, then called AT&T to unsuspend my account, miraculously got through and found a reasonably helpful person within about 20 minutes. She took the block of my account, but told me I would have to suspend my account again once the pre-order was done. She then kindly volunteered to stay on the line until that was accomplished. It is now roughly 9 AM
3. Went back to the Apple site, attempted to re-enter my information, got to a screen that told me they were verifying my information and showed a spinning wheel, and then nothing happened. Gloria from AT&T stuck with me for about 25 minutes, kept asking if I was making any progress, but I got nowhere. Finally I told her she should move on and I would send an email to a special address she gave me about re-suspending my account.
4. Waited for the next page to load.
5. Kept waiting.
6. Started searching the internet to read about others frustration.
7. Attempted to work while periodically checking on my verification page.
8. Left the page running and went to lunch, stopped at a Radio Shack to see if they were taking preorders, as I had read on one of my web searches. Was told they would start taking preorders at 1 (now 12:20).
9. Ate my lunch, returned to Radio Shack at 12:55 and found the store basically empty. Pretended to look at some other junk, then stepped up to the counter promptly at 1 to ask about the preorder situation. Was given a handwritten list with 9 names already on it and told to write down my name and contact information. No deposits, no guarantees, they would call me. Left feeling like nothing had been accomplished, though they did think they would be getting 10-15 new phones on 6/24, and some of them might even be my preferred 32GB version.
10. Returned to my desk - still verifying. Tried opening other browsers and going through them, but couldn't even get as far.
11. Waited
12. Still verifying
13. 4 pm, try going through the AT&T site now, make some progress each time but get error messages eventually, keep trying, finally - success - I am able to order the iPhone 4 32GB.
14. Except I cannot modify my shipping address - it must go to my billing address. In a 4 story walk-up with no door man. I get everything else delivered to my office for this reason, but AT&T will not allow it for reasons I cannot comprehend. Decide to complete the transaction anyway and raise hell.
15. Email AT&T about suspending my account again and getting it shipped to my office.
16. Get an email 3 hours later saying they have suspended my account and will look into changing my shipping address.
To date, I have not received any further communications, including an email confirming my order. But I hope, I really do.
I got a reminder e-mail today for my phone, to pick it up on Thursday (thank you very much jgalt, Mr. Details ), which of course included some small print language that my reservation did not guarantee that a phone would be there for me.
Of course, this was a reservation, not a true pre-order, so that may be different.

I believe the iphone pre-order date has moved back to mid-July, but I don't think that's applicable to the phones that were ordered before. If you got it on Day 1, I think you are still supposed to get it Wednesday. After that, I think there's a small number in early July and then most in mid-July.

Allegedly my phone was delivered today. Given that no one was there to sign for it, we'll see exactly where UPS left this rather expensive piece of equipment, but if it is there, along with Landycakes' Legend, this goes down as a pretty sweet day for a random Wednesday in June.
I just got a 3GS in March so I won't be getting a 4 anytime soon, but I did upgrade to OS4 last night. At first glance: email threading is great, I apparently have a background image now, and I can play Pandora and do other things for once.

What's your address? ;D

This is why I shouldn't be one of the first people to get these things - I like it a lot, but I don't have too much to say about it. The images on the screen are as sharp as anything I have ever seen. The design is very attractive and feels sturdy, too. The processor seems to move faster, but I am supposed to think that, right? Recording video in HD is pretty sweet, but I wasn't dying for that capability before. And I have already filled almost all of the 32GB with music, but there is plenty of stuff I can delete - my old version 3 was just 16GB, so this is nice to have. Other than that, I have not had much chance to play with it, so I will let you know if anything else jumps out at me down the road.
